Data refreshed

Complaints on fileComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

Repeated instances of complete motorcycle throttle failure/unresponsiveness—so far, only at starting out. Forums online describe this as a frequent, chronic problem with Husqvarna Vitpilen 701 (made by KTM). Message on Speedometer: TC FAILURE First incident: July 14, 2024 Approx mileage 8500 Immediate complete OEM battery replacement offered no change. Disabling “Traction Control” mitigated problem for last 2+ months. Possibly only incidental or coincidental success. Frequency of problem, however, has recently returned. Recent online search found forums reporting faulty throttle control module. Precisely the same symptoms are described by multiple owners. Manufacturer seems aware of this issue. My aim is to notify KTM for complimentary replacement and installation of this unit. THIS IS AN EXTREMELY HAZARDOUS AND POTENTIALLY LETHAL FAILURE. I have been lucky.

My clutch master cylinder failed, preventing me from disengaging the transmission gear at speed safely. Please note, that my clutch slave cylinder has been changed out from the defective unit that was subject to a recall. I can provide documentation on this.

On right turns, usually immediately after starting the motorcycle, the throttle loses response. There is an unexpected loss of power and when power to the rear wheel returns, the throttle responds by exponentially increasing power even when the same amount of throttle is given to the motorcycle. On another incident, the motorcycle completely loss power and a traction control failure message appeared on the dash after the incident. Turning off the bike and starting it back restored full function of the bike, however the engine light and traction control light were on. Inspection is available upon request. Power loss is sporadic and has been randomly reproduced. Dealer has not independently confirmed.

THERE SEEMS TO BE AN ISSUE WITH FALSE NEUTRALS AND THE BIKE FALLING OUT OF GEAR WHILE IN DRIVE. THE BIKE WILL BE RIDING IN 5TH GEAR AND ALL OF A SUDDEN LOSES POWER. MANY PEOPLE ARE EXPERIENCING THIS ISSUE AND AFTERMARKET MANUFACTURERS HAVE EVEN SOLD A SHIFT SPRING KIT TO REMEDY THIS ISSUE. APPARENTLY THE STOCK SPRING IS WEAK CAUSING THE BIKE TO FALL OUT OF GEAR. HAS BEEN AN ISSUE WITH THE KTM DUKE 690 WHICH SHARES THE SAME ENGINE.

THE SEAL ON THE CLUTCH SLAVE CYLINDER FAILED, PREVENTING ME FROM SHIFTING OUT OF GEAR, INTO NEUTRAL TO EFFECT A SAFE STOP. I WAS RIDING MY MOTORCYCLE AT THE TIME AND HAD TROUBLE STOPPING. I HAD TO STALL THE ENGINE WHILE RIDING TO STOP. WHEN THE MOTORCYCLE DID STOP, IT WAS NOT A CONTROLLED STOP AND THE MOTORCYCLE NEARLY FELL OVER.
