Owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA, grouped by component
Data refreshed
What this page shows
Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 2024 Hyundai Elantra Hybrid, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.
Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

Electrical
Reports naming the electrical system — wiring, battery, charging, control modules, infotainment and electrical accessories.
From owner reports, verbatim
The vehicle experienced a catastrophic engine compartment fire while safely parked inside an employment parking garage in [XXX] on XXX, at approximately 3:04 PM. I was physically sitting inside the vehicle cabin when heavy smoke suddenly began pouring out from the engine bay. I immediately evacuated the vehicle for my safety. Within moments, the smoke escalated into an active, un-contained fire that completely consumed the vehicle. The local fire department responded to the scene to extinguish the blaze. The vehicle is a total loss. This safety incident occurred exactly one week after I received the official manufacturer safety recall notice by mail for Hyundai Recall 301 (NHTSA Campaign Number: 26V308000), which outlines an overheating transistor defect within the Hybrid Power Control Unit (HPCU) capable of causing a vehicle fire. The vehicle caught fire due to this exact un-remedied defect before I could realistically bring it to a dealership for the required safety software update. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
We lease 5 Hyundai 2024 Elantra Blue hybrids that were bought new a few months back. We have experienced the same issues with 3 of the 5 so far. Cars will STALL at low speeds and sometimes ENGINE LIGHT goes on. Cars will suddenly not accelerate after stopping at a stop sign. Extreme danger for our drivers who are transporting developmentally disabled clients to outings and shopping, etc. Hyundai REPLACED throttle body replacement but same issues reappeared 2 days after getting car back. Now, Hyundai is claiming the GPS units plugged in may be causing this, but other 2 are not experiencing this issue (2 of 5). They refuse to work on further unless GPS units are out, but customer needs GPS units per insurance. So we need help from Hyundai in dealing with the dealer Zimbrick East of Madison, WI. We need the vehicles, but don't want our employees at risk.

Driver assistance
Reports naming forward-collision avoidance, lane keeping, back-over prevention, cruise control and related electronic driver-assistance systems.
From owner reports, verbatim
The car has an annoying picture of a coffee cup and tells me to consider taking a break followed by annoying beeps. This announcement happens every 5-10 minutes on the expressway regardless of who drives the car and if they are staying in the lanes. Hyundai took the way to disable this out of the menu this year and all the people in the car hear is annoying and distracting beeps on trips on the expressway

Visibility
Reports naming windshields, glass, wipers, defrosters and mirrors.
From owner reports, verbatim
We have had the car for 2 months and when I went out to start it the other day I noticed a large crack in the lower 1/3 of the windshield, starting at the edge/gasket of the passengers side and spreading horizontally all the way to the drivers side. There is no impact mark anywhere on the windshield leading us to believe it is a defect in the glass itself or it was not bonded properly when installed. The crack is directly in the line of sight of the driver and presents a safety hazard while driving. There were no warnings or rock chips prior to the crack showing up one morning. I have reached out to the dealer but have not received a response.

Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers.
