2007 Hyundai Elantra Problems

Owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA, grouped by component

Data refreshed

Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

What this page shows

Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 2007 Hyundai Elantra, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.

Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

Reports by component

Ranked by how many owner reports name each component category

Percentages are of component mentions. A single complaint can name more than one component, so these do not sum to the total complaint count.

BOTH THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SUN VISORS HAVE SUDDENLY BROKEN AND FALLEN DOWN EITHER COMPLETELY OR PARTIALLY WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, OBSTRUCTING LINE OF VISION AND BECOMING UNUSABLE. THE BREAK OCCURRED AT THE SAME LOCATION ON BOTH SUN VISORS - THE PLASTIC ROD BROKE JUST ABOVE WHERE THE VISOR IS SCREW MOUNTED ONTO THE CEILING OF THE CAR.

NHTSA ID 11012377 · filed Aug 2, 2017

THE SUN VISOR ON THE DRIVERS SIDE BROKE AND KEPT FALLING DOWN. I WENT TO THE DEALER AND THEY WANTED $278 JUST FOR THE PART AND SAID THEY WOULD CHARGE EXTRA FOR INSTALLING. THIS WAS WAY TOO COSTLY, SO I TRIED TAPING UP THE SUN VISOR, BUT THAT DID NOT WORK AS THE TAPE KEPT GIVING AWAY AND THE SUN VISOR FALLING WOULD INTERFERE WITH MY VISIBILITY OF THE ROAD. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A REPAIR SHOP AND THEY INSTALLED A USED SUN VISOR AT THE COST OF $117. THE VERY NEXT WEEK THE PASSENGER SIDE SUN VISOR BROKE AND FELL DOWN IN EXACTLY THE SAME MANNER AS THE DRIVERS SIDE (THAT I HAD REPAIRED THE WEEK BEFORE). I DECIDED TO DO AN ONLINE SEARCH FOR A REPLACEMENT OF THE PASSENGER SIDE SUN VISOR AND EVERYWHERE I LOOKED I FOUND PEOPLE WHO HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WITH HYUNDAI SUN VISORS NOT ONLY MY 2007 HYUNDAI ELANTRA BUT OTHER YEARS MODELS OF HYUNDAI AND MODELS. THIS IS A REAL SAFETY ISSUE AS THE SUN VISOR KEEPS FALLING DOWN IN YOUR LINE OF VISIBILITY AND INTERFERES WITH YOUR ABILITY TO SEE THE ROAD AHEAD CLEARLY AND IT CLEARLY IS AN EXPENSIVE REPAIR AND I ONLY HAVE 72000 MOLES ON MY VEHICLE. THE INTERIOR OF A VEHICLE SHOULD NOT BE FALLING APART ESPECIALLY SOMETHING LIKE THIS, WITHOUT TOUCHING IT OR MOVING THE SUN VISOR IT JUST FALLS AND WILL NOT STAY UP.

I've contacted 4 separate Hyundai dealerships on carrying out this recall to correct the issue, and all of them have told me they can't fulfill the recall because the car is too old and they use tablets, but the recalls requires a computer. I've contacted Hyundai and they've been no help. They've told me in their words "As much as we'd like to assist, transactions between the dealership and the consumer are strictly between those parties. We're unable to intervene in any service disputes. We encourage you to work with the dealership as they're directly involved and will be in the best position to assist." this was after I told them I contacted the dealership and they couldn't help me, as well as numerous other dealerships.

HE WANTED TO GO TO THE ER BECAUSE OF THE GOOSE EGG ON MY NOGGIN BUT DURING A PANDEMIC I THINK I'LL WAIT. HE CALLS AAA FOR ME AND WE GET THE CAR TOWED BACK TO MY HOME. IT WILL NEVER BE DRIVABLE AGAIN BUT IN MY STATE OF SHOCK IT WAS MY MOST PLAUSIBLE OPTION. UPON, INSPECTING THE CAR, THE TIRE ROD SNAPPED CLEAN OFF THE WHEEL.

AIRBAGS DEPLOYED AND I WAS RUSHED TO THE HOSPITAL. WINDSHIELD AND FRONT OF ROOF COLLAPSED FROM ROLLOVER! I ABSOLUTELY DID NOT PRESS DOWN THE GAS PEDAL BY MISTAKE. I AM SURE.
