2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport Electrical Problems

Owner-reported complaints naming the electrical system, filed with NHTSA

Data refreshed

Electrical reportsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

In June 2026 I took my vehicle to Hyundai for a recall to the ECM module. After that my vehicle would lose power and hesitate to shift gears, and overall does not feel safe. Took vehicle back to dealer and they have told me that I have to wait for them to issue a recall fix for this now .

This is written admission the vehicle has the TXXI defect covered by warranty extension to 120,000 miles. I gave Hyundai 48 hours to provide written authorization for oil consumption test per their TSB 22-EM-003H. After 3 days they are silent. They refuse email communication despite documented language barrier. Current Vehicle Status: - Active DTC P0010 causing loss of power and stalling risk - Oil Consumption: 1 liter per 600km, which is 3x Hyundai failure threshold in TSB 22-EM-003H - 95,772 miles, under TXXI 120,000 mile warranty limit - U.S. Spec vehicle covered by TXXI Warranty Extension Hyundai is violating Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act by refusing to honor written warranty for known safety defect. I believe it is a clock spring failure. The airbag light is on & the buttons on the steering wheel do not work. I searched it & have seen several posts of others having same issue. I really feel this should be looked into, cause this is highly unsafe to be driving around with what very well could be an airbag that doesn't deploy & could seriously hurt drivers. Also, the contact stated the vehicle uses 5 quarts of oil within a 2 week period.

MY ISSUE - When making turns at night with the low beam headlights on automatic and switching on the left turn signal the headlights go out for up to 30 seconds then come back on. this is very dangerous when driving in rural or low light areas. Possible headlight switch issue. TAKEN FROM THE INTERNET - I have a 2017 Hyundai Tucson and last year this problem only happened once, but now it has been going on for the past 3 consecutive days. If I have my headlights on or on auto and I use the left signal, the headlights turn off. Only the left, not the right. The display on my dash displays the lights going to off and back to auto or on when the signal has been activated and then stopped

I purchased my vehicle at 51,700 miles. Approx 2 months …1,000-2,000 miles later my car went into limp mode and wouldn’t exceed 20 mph. I also noticed that my vehicle was consuming 4-qts of oil every 1,000 miles since then and is experiencing engine failure. It’s a safety hazard to myself and others as the car just shuts off completely while driving. Hyundai won’t do anything about it. I have documents to show every oil change/maintenance on vehicle.

Oil pressure sensor failed allowing pressurized oil to leak both externally and also internally into the attached electrical harness. The oil that leaked into the harness traveled to the ECM. The repair shop personnel stated that the failure is not covered by the 10 yr 100,000 mile power train warranty but does possess a fire or electrical failure.

THE VEHICLE ALMOST STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE LANE OF INTERSTATE HIGHWAY WHILE DRIVING AT A SPEED OF 60 PLUS MPH. WITH HEAVY TRAFFIC AROUND , IT WAS VERY DIFFICULT TO PULL THE VEHICLE SAFELY ON THE SHOULDER. THE VEHICLE RECEIVED A SOFT WARE UPDATE BY THE DEALERSHIP ABOUT A MONTH BACK PER PRODUCT IMPROVEMENT CAMPAIGN NUMBER 953. IT TOOK ABOUT ONE MONTH TO GET THE DEFECT FIXED BY THE DEALERSHIP . I NARROWLY ESCAPED OF GETTING RUN DOWN UNDER HEAVY TRAFFIC COMING FROM BEHIND AND RUNNING ON BOTH SIDES OF MY VEHICLE. THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE DOES NOT DRIVE AS SMOOTHLY SINCE IT WAS REPAIRED. THE CONSUMER IS APPREHENSIVE ABOUT DRIVING THE VEHICLE. *JS

WITHIN DAYS OF TAKING DELIVERY, THE VEHICLE WOULD TAKE 3-4 SECONDS TO ACCELERATE FROM A STOP, AND WOULD NOT FULLY ACCELERATE UNTIL ALMOST 10 SECONDS LATER, CREATING A HUGE SAFETY ISSUES FOR TIMES WHEN SPEEDY ACCELERATION (AT INTERSECTIONS, CLOSE CALLS, ETC.) WAS PARAMOUNT. FROM THERE, THE INFOTAINMENT SYSTEM GLITCHED OUT AND WOULD NOT TURN ON UNTIL I RESTARTED THE CAR, AND IT HAD ISSUES WITH VOICE COMMANDS INTERMITTENTLY, DEFEATING THE PURPOSE OF A HANDS-FREE DEVICE (ONCE AGAIN CREATING MORE SAFETY CONCERNS). MOST REGULARLY, THE VEHICLE WOULD STRUGGLE SO BADLY TO ACCELERATE FROM 0-40, AND 50-60, AND WOULD REDLINE, CAUSING HUGE STRESS AND STRAIN ON THE VEHICLE'S POWER TRAIN. HYUNDAI TOLD ME "THIS IS NORMAL" WHICH IT IS NOT. THIS HAPPENED DAILY AT INTERSECTIONS, BACK ROADS, AND ON HIGHWAYS--IT DID NOT DISCRIMINATE. I HAD SEVERAL NEAR MISSES WHEN THE VEHICLE REFUSED TO ACCELERATE. IN FACT, JUST TODAY, I WENT TO ACCELERATE THROUGH A TURN AND HAD THE GAS PEDAL FLOORED BECAUSE IT WOULD NOT ACCELERATE PAST 10 MPH. IT TOOK A FULL 20 SECONDS TO GET UP TO SPEED. THIS HAS HAPPENED IN ALL DRIVING MODES: ECO, NORMAL, AND TURBO.
