2016 Hyundai Sonata Seat belts Problems

Owner-reported complaints naming the seat belt system, filed with NHTSA

Data refreshed

Seat belts reportsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

The first is the drivers side headlight not properly projecting light. The light projected a shadow across the center of the light preventing proper illumination in front of my vehicle. This is causing a safety issue. Brought car to dealer who confirmed that the left headlight was deformed preventing proper projection of the light. This deformity was not covered nor are there any recalls even though numerous people reported the same issue. Am working on privately replacing them both. The second was the return tensioner not properly retracting the seatbelt back in. This was not covered by the dealer but it’sa safety issue where the system may fail.

THE DRIVERS SIDE SEATBELT DOESN'T RETRACT ON IT'S OWN/SPRING IS TOO WEAK, YOU HAVE TO FEED IT BACK IN WHICH IS A PAIN. MOST IMPORTANTLY IT PRESENTS A SAFETY HAZARD IF YOUR CAR GETS TRAPPED UNDERWATER OR IT'S ON FIRE, THE VERY LONG & BASICALLY LOOSE BELT COULD TANGLE YOU UP LEAVING YOU TRAPPED IN THE VEHICLE TO DIE A SLOW DEATH. OFCOURSE IF THERE IS A FIRE YOU DO STAND A CHANCE THE FIRE WILL BURN THROUGH THE BELT BEFORE YOU'RE COMPLETELY DEAD.

THE REAR SEAT BELTS LOCK UP AND HOLD THE OCCUPANTS TIGHT AGAINST THE SEATS. SO TIGHT IT MAKES IT DIFFICULT TO RELEASE THEM. COMPARED TO FRONT SEATS THE BELTS ARE FREE UNTIL A ABRUPT STOP
