While driving my 2022 Hyundai Tucson Hybrid, the vehicle suddenly lost power, began shaking, and all warning lights illuminated at once. The car would not accelerate properly and became unsafe to operate in traffic. After pulling over and restarting the vehicle, the warnings cleared, but the issue has occurred more than once. It first occurred 3/25/26. The dealer was not able to reproduce the issue but found numerous faults and reset them. This is a serious safety concern because the vehicle can unexpectedly lose motor power while driving, creating a risk of collision. The problem is intermittent and unpredictable.

I am reporting a critical Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) valve and electrical circuit failure on my 2022 Hyundai Tucson Hybrid. The failure resulted in the check engine light illuminating, diagnostic codes identifying an EGR system malfunction, and visible corrosion found within the EGR connector and extension harness. This component breakdown causes severe performance risks, risk of sudden loss of engine power, and compromises vehicle safety. Diagnostic & Technical Details: Error Codes Captured: Diagnostic trouble codes in the P0400 series (EGR system flow/circuit malfunction) along with connector/wiring degradation were confirmed during inspection. Root Cause & Symptoms: The failure stems from degradation and electrical shorting risks in the EGR valve assembly and its immediate wiring harness connection. Manufacturer Response & Escalation Denial: When addressing this failure, I discovered that Hyundai has acknowledged widespread EGR valve assembly defects, electrical short risks, and solder flux contamination issues across multiple model years and production lines (such as NHTSA Campaign 24V-308 and subsequent service campaigns like 9B3). However, Hyundai restricts safety recall and warranty coverage strictly based on narrow VIN manufacturing parameters, leaving owners with identical, failing hardware to shoulder exorbitant out-of-pocket repair costs—in my case, quoted at over $2,013. Because a compromised EGR system and corroded electrical harness can cause sudden engine performance failures while driving in traffic, and because Hyundai is limiting its accountability through arbitrary production windows, I am requesting that NHTSA investigate this systemic EGR and harness failure on 2022 Tucson Hybrid models and compel Hyundai to expand its safety coverage and reimburse affected owners for necessary repairs.

On XXX the vehicle lost motive power while my wife was accelerating to merge onto a highway with our two young children aboard. It would not accelerate and she was forced to pull over in an active merge area. Simultaneous warnings illuminated: Electronic Parking Brake, ESC, Forward Collision Avoidance, Blind Spot Detection, and hybrid system, with "Check Hybrid System" displayed. No crash or injury occurred, but loss of propulsion during a highway merge created serious collision risk. This is a recurring defect documented since early 2023: Hyundai's own Blue Link telematics auto-flagged an Engine Control System DTC on XXX; a jump-start was required XXX (dealer RO #XXX); check engine light and stored CAN-bus codes U100387, U100100, U004600, U010100 on 08/10/2023 (RO #XXX); and a September 2023 incident in which the center display shut off during reverse, disabling the backup camera. Hyundai performed Service Campaign 9B4 (BMS software update, DTC P1BB20, TSB 25-01-010H-1) on this VIN on XXX; the same failure category recurred 84 days later. The vehicle was towed to Safford Hyundai of [XXX] onXXX and has remained there 65+ consecutive days. The dealer replaced the 12V battery (defect persisted) and the Hybrid Power Control Unit (HPCU); per Hyundai Consumer Affairs' own written email ofXXX, the check engine light returned after the HPCU replacement and the cause "remains unidentified." The dealer states it cannot determine the root cause. The vehicle IS available for inspection at Safford Hyundai of Springfield, [XXX]. The contact owns a 2022 Hyundai Tucson. The contact stated that while driving, after an hour, the vehicle was shaking and shuddering abnormally and the vehicle lost motive power. The driver was unable to maintain a steady speed while driving the vehicle. The vehicle was making an abnormal sound while driving at 60 MPH, and the vehicle was struggling to accelerate. There were no warning lights illuminated. The blue link indicated that the failure was associated with DTC: P03600. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, who was unable to retrieve a diagnostic trouble code. The vehicle was diagnosed as needing the fluid, tires, and brakes to be changed, and the low jack to be removed. The vehicle was not repaired. Another local dealer, Napleton Hyundai (4333 W Ogden Ave, Aurora, IL 60504) was contacted, but there was no response. The manufacturer was contacted, and a case was opened. The failure mileage was approximately 48,000.

My 2025 Mazda CX-5 has an intermittent defect that causes Android phones connected to Android Auto through the vehicle's USB-C port to unexpectedly perform a complete device reboot while the vehicle is being driven. The problem began in August 2025 after I purchased a Google Pixel 9. I initially believed the phone was defective and spent several months troubleshooting the phone. After the same problem occurred with my son's Google Pixel 10, I determined the issue was not phone-specific. I reported the problem to Mastria Mazda in March/April 2026 and returned again in May 2026. I opened a case with Mazda Customer Experience on June 4, 2026. The vehicle software has been updated, but the defect remains. The failure is random. It does not occur immediately after connecting the phone and is not associated with navigation, music, phone calls, messaging, or trip duration. It can occur once during a trip or multiple times during the same trip. The defect has been reproduced with two different phones (Google Pixel 9 and Pixel 10) using multiple USB-C cables. The same phones were then tested using wired Android Auto in another 2025 Mazda CX-5 (loaner driven for one week), a Mazda3, a Mazda CX-90, and a Tesla. The problem did not occur in any of those vehicles. My Pixel 9 also works normally in my vehicle when using wireless Android Auto. The reboots occur only through the wired USB-C Android Auto connection in my vehicle. This creates a safety hazard because Android Auto immediately disconnects, causing the sudden loss of navigation, the head-up display directions, hands-free calling, and voice commands while driving. The defect has occurred multiple times during Boston morning rush-hour traffic and while navigating a major highway interchange under construction where lane assignments had been temporarily changed. The unexpected loss of navigation and driver information at these critical moments creates a significant driver distraction and potential safety risk.

WIPERS STOP WORKING. THEY WILL FREEZE AND STOP MOVING ACROSS THE WINDSHIELD. SO FAR I CAN FIX THE PROBLEM BY TURNING THE WIPERS OFF AND THEN BACK ON. MY CONCERN IS THAT MAY NOT WORK IN THE FUTURE. ALSO, IN HEAVY RAIN AN ACCIDENT MAY HAPPEN BEFORE I CAN RESTART THE WIPERS. I BROUGHT THE CAR IN TO THE DEALERSHIP, BUT THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG.

The issue involves the vehicle’s drivetrain and hybrid/electronic control system, where the car suddenly jerked forward in stop-and-go traffic on the freeway as if it had been struck from behind. Immediately following this event, the vehicle would not accelerate beyond approximately 40 mph, indicating a loss of normal power. This created a significant safety risk, as the sudden jerking could have led to a rear-end collision, and the inability to accelerate properly made it difficult to keep up with traffic on the freeway. I was barely able to safely pull off the freeway while surrounding traffic continued at higher speeds, increasing the risk to myself and other drivers. The problem appeared to resolve after turning the vehicle off and then back on; however, this raises concern about intermittent failure. The vehicle was taken to a dealership for inspection, but they were unable to reproduce or identify the issue. The vehicle remains available for inspection upon request. The vehicle has been inspected by a dealer but not by the manufacturer, police, or insurance representatives. Prior to the failure, there were no warning lights, messages, or noticeable symptoms indicating an issue. Based on similar reported experiences, this event may be consistent with a “limp mode” condition or a malfunction in the transition between the electric motor and gasoline engine, potentially involving the transmission or hybrid control system.

Car is a Gas Hybrid (not plugin). 3 occurrences over the last couple of months. Car emits a warning sound and a message on the dash says "Check Hybrid System. Stop Safely". Basically right after this message the car starts losing power and stops. Doesn't matter if on freeway or not. You need to find a place to pull over or you stop traffic wherever you are. Looks like Hybrid Battery is completely drained. Can not be re-created. Dealer has it now for the 3rd time. Dealer in the past have not been able to find cause/cure since this issue is not posting any errors to the onboard diagnostic system. Temporary 'fix' is to power off car, and power back on. Looks like this is a 'known' issue though as its being reported by quite a few people online.

Repeat Repair Timeline – Loss of Acceleration Vehicle: 2022 Hyundai Tucson Hybrid Blue Issue: Intermittent loss of acceleration from a complete stop (safety concern) Occurrence 1 Approx. Date: 12/2025 Mileage: ~ 48000 Description: Vehicle failed to accelerate immediately after a complete stop. Pressed accelerator and experienced a noticeable delay before the vehicle moved. No warning lights. Turned on and off. Restarted normal. Action Taken: No service visit at this time. Occurrence 2 Approx. Date: 01/2025 Mileage: 12/2025 Description: Same issue occurred again from a complete stop. Delay in acceleration while entering traffic. No dashboard warnings. Action Taken: Issue noted for future service visit. Occurrence 3 (Reported to Dealership) Date: 50,000-mile service 01/14/2025 Mileage: ~50,000 miles Description: Loss of acceleration from a stop occurred multiple times prior to this visit. I informed the dealership that this was a very dangerous safety issue. Dealership Response: Vehicle was serviced as part of the 50,000-mile maintenance. Dealership stated they could not find anything wrong. No specific repair or explanation provided. Outcome: Issue was not resolved. Occurrence 4 (Post-Service) Date: January 28, 2026 Mileage: ~55,999 miles Description: After coming to a complete stop, I pressed the accelerator and the vehicle did not respond for several seconds. No warning lights or alerts. This occurred after the dealership stated no issue was found. This condition has resulted in a dangerous delay while entering traffic and creates an immediate and ongoing safety risk to the myself and young children passengers, and surrounding vehicles. The defect involves a loss of acceleration / loss of motive power and has occurred repeatedly without warning. I am formally requesting escalation beyond the dealership level, full documentation of this safety defect, and a permanent corrective resolution. It is not safe.

Speed control on steering wheel not responding all the time. When car is on cruise control speed instead or decrease control not responding all the time. I was almost going to hit the vehicle on high way i decreased the speed according to front of my car but controller not responding speed didn't decreased I suddenly realized that slammed on break. Nothing was happened i already sent email to hyundai but no respond. I looks defective controller switch. Now other side of steering volume control switch also becomes loose

I’ve experienced repeated electrical and mechanical issues with my 2022 Hyundai Tucson Hybrid. These include full battery drainage without engine activation (leaving me stranded), multiple warning lights, and recently a heater failure that remains unresolved. All warning lights and audible alarms started going off at the same time. EPS, ABS, Auto Hold, Collision warning, Air bags, All wheel drive, brake system, and more.1st time it happened was [XXX], while driving. The car was drivable but I did notice a difference in braking and acceleration. I parked and turned off the car. I did turn the car back on several times and the alarms continued. I finally turned it off for 10 min, and all alarms stopped, but the check engine light stayed on. Car sat overnight and all warnings had stopped. Took it in for service, and issue could not be duplicated. 2nd time it happened was [XXX]. I had to have the car towed since it would not move when in drive or reverse. Alarms were still going off when it made it to service. They replaced the brake harness. 3rd time happened on [XXX], 3 days after the brake harness was replaced. Towed it to service and they replaced the engine harness. 4th time was on [XXX], 2 weeks after engine harness was replaced. This time there were no audible alarms, just all of the visual ones. Same performance issues as stated before. This issue seems to have happened to several other Hyundai owners as well, as per complaints in Reddit and on Hyundai forums. While driving, my entire dashboard lit up with every warning sound and symbol for the car. It would cycle through collision, airbags, braking, all of it. Luckily I was able to drive to a safe place. I let the car sit overnight and the alarms stopped. Took it to service and they could not recreate it and no codes showed up. Second time it happened, the warning sounds and lights didn’t stop. The car would jerk when I tried to put it in drive, so I had it towed to dealership. They have video and photos of it. After 2 weeks, they said it was fixed-a pin in a connector was bent. Had car for 3 days and it happened again. Had it towed again. They have had their ‘senior’ techs looking at it, and none can figure it out. There are Reddit posts with this same issue, as well as Hyundai group sites.

The blind spot warning went off and locked all the brakes up. We were not able to move the vehicle and could not even pull off the road out of traffic. There is no way to disable the brakes when the computer or sensors are malfunctioning. We had to get the vehicle towed.

The car has had a check engine light on for a week. It sometimes jolts forward when pressing on the accelerator and it does it all of a sudden. Took it to the Hyundai dealership they say it’s due to the egr valve and sub harness.

I wasn’t even allowed to select all the issues I’ve had with this vehicle since day of purchase three years ago June, and upon picking up the car I have had issues. My leather seats have bubbled up. My car will not merge. It will suddenly accelerate my car drops down in the middle of the road. My moonroof opens on its own. My car windows were randomly roll down on its own. My car breaks itself. My car emergency brake won’t unhook my car. Every single light is now on it. They have attempted to fix numerous times and my life has been put in jeopardy and my child’s life numerous times. No one can fix this issue. I am now told her I will have to wait three weeks for a rental because everyone’s backed up in diagnosing these cars. This car is going to kill me in my child and is a safety hazard. It does this stuff with lights on and without and it’s random and no warning my EV warning has come on my brake system. Warning has come on my car has been unable to stop and coasted and suddenly was able to then stop.

This relates to an Intermittent Braking Anomaly that started occurring within 1 year of this Hyundai Tucson Hybrid Ltd. purchased "New" in Aug. 2022. The 1st Service Invoices (Jun23 & Dec23) only reflected "Customer Requests Complimentary Maintenance Plan Tire Rotation," but did not reflect the braking anomaly; eventhough the braking anomaly was discussed with the Service Advisor at those times. There have been at least 7 Service Appointments that this braking anomaly was identified by the vehicle Owners to the Service Advisor. This has been, and is, an intermittent anomaly/problem that occurs most often when slowing down to stop, and especially when going downhill. There is a very noticeable "Shaking/Shuddering/Pulsating" recognized by the Driver, and when present, Passenger(s) also. On average, this occurs 1x/week , and inconsistent. One time it started pulling left towards oncoming traffic. Another time it was violent shaking, and almost unable to stop at stop sign. The Dealership 1st attempted to repair this by refacing front rotors in 2024. This did not fix the anomaly. In Dec 2024, returned to the Dealership, and a Tech. was able to duplicate the braking anomaly. With that, they then replaced both Front Rotors (51712-L1100 Disk) and Brake Pads (58101-P0A011 Pad Kit) in Jan. 2025. The braking anomaly continued later that very same day the Front Rotors and Brake Pads were replaced! Returned to the Dealership the next day and discussed this braking anomaly with the Service Mgr., and He and the Service Advisor drove it for about 15 minutes but were not able to duplicate the intermittent braking anomaly. Both Service Mgr. and Sales Mgr. suggested to buy new vehicle. Returned to Dealership in Feb. 2025 for about 2 weeks for them to again evaluate. They were unable to duplicate the braking issue after several test drives and multiple individuals driving. This anomaly continues and neither Hyundai Corp. nor Dealership will do anything else to solve this anomaly.

- Component that Failed: The Panoramic Sunroof (glass side that opens) - Safety Risk: Glass shattering above your head while driving, tons of glass falling below to the driver & passengers in the car | Shock of a loud gunshot while driving - causes wrecks - Vehicle Inspected: Currently at Hyundai, figuring out what to do - Warning signs: ABOLSUTLEY NONE - spontaneous explosion My husband, two friends, and I were traveling down the interstate at 55 mph, we heard a loud bang (like the sound of a gunshot)! Our panoramic sunroof sunshade was pulled back with the sunroof closed. Instantly, the sunroof exploded into a million tiny pieces of glass that partially rained down on our heads and shoulders and all over the rest of our car. It was quite a startling sound. There was a hole about 10 inches across in the sunroof and more pieces were continuing to fall out. To protect our heads, I closed the sunshade. Then, we could hear pieces hitting the shade and glass falling behind us on the road. Once we got home, the hole became much larger.

The vehicle hesitates or stalls when pressing the gas, losing power as if it doesn’t recognize when to transition between EV and gas mode. Yes, the vehicle is available for inspection upon request. 2. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? The issue caused the vehicle to lose power unexpectedly, particularly while driving at highway speeds, which forced me to pull over multiple times for safety reasons. This happened on [XXX] before the [XXX] Tunnel, creating a hazardous situation in heavy traffic. If the vehicle stalled at the wrong moment—such as in an intersection or while merging—it could significantly increase the risk of a crash. 3. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? No. I have taken the vehicle to a Hyundai dealership, but no official errors or diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) have been detected. The dealership has not confirmed the issue unless I agree to high-cost diagnostics that may not guarantee a resolution. 4. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives, or others? The vehicle has been looked at by a Hyundai dealership, but no official findings or resolutions have been provided. Hyundai has a service bulletin for their 12V battery but isn’t notifying owners. Today my vehicle stopped working and lost all acceleration on a busy 3 lane street that is 55mph. I was able to limp it to a left turn lane where I had to research the issue and found many others had instances like mine. The battery stops working and subsequently stops the vehicle from accelerating and tells you to ‘stop safely’ with no warning or indication that you’re about to stop moving on a road.

This problem has happened 4 times in the last two months. After about 15 minutes of either moving very slowly, or being parked and idling, the engine does not start when the gas pedal is pressed. The car accelerates as normal since it is in EV mode, giving the driver the impression the car is operating properly. After driving around 1/4 mile the car loses drive power very quickly - full speed to zero in several seconds - because the car is in EV (battery) mode only. This sudden loss of power twice occurred in traffic, which increased the risk of an accident. Fortunately the car was not running at highway speeds and the car was pulled over safely despite the traffic. After the car lost all drive power, the warning “check hybrid system“ appeared on the instrument cluster. There were no warning lamps, messages or other symptoms prior to the problem occurring. Twice a dealer was unable to reproduce or confirm this problem. An independent service center also could not reproduce or confirm this problem. The vehicle is available for inspection, but has not been inspected other than the dealer and the service center.
