While driving my 2022 Hyundai Tucson Hybrid, the vehicle suddenly lost power, began shaking, and all warning lights illuminated at once. The car would not accelerate properly and became unsafe to operate in traffic. After pulling over and restarting the vehicle, the warnings cleared, but the issue has occurred more than once. It first occurred 3/25/26. The dealer was not able to reproduce the issue but found numerous faults and reset them. This is a serious safety concern because the vehicle can unexpectedly lose motor power while driving, creating a risk of collision. The problem is intermittent and unpredictable.
I am reporting a critical Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) valve and electrical circuit failure on my 2022 Hyundai Tucson Hybrid. The failure resulted in the check engine light illuminating, diagnostic codes identifying an EGR system malfunction, and visible corrosion found within the EGR connector and extension harness. This component breakdown causes severe performance risks, risk of sudden loss of engine power, and compromises vehicle safety. Diagnostic & Technical Details: Error Codes Captured: Diagnostic trouble codes in the P0400 series (EGR system flow/circuit malfunction) along with connector/wiring degradation were confirmed during inspection. Root Cause & Symptoms: The failure stems from degradation and electrical shorting risks in the EGR valve assembly and its immediate wiring harness connection. Manufacturer Response & Escalation Denial: When addressing this failure, I discovered that Hyundai has acknowledged widespread EGR valve assembly defects, electrical short risks, and solder flux contamination issues across multiple model years and production lines (such as NHTSA Campaign 24V-308 and subsequent service campaigns like 9B3). However, Hyundai restricts safety recall and warranty coverage strictly based on narrow VIN manufacturing parameters, leaving owners with identical, failing hardware to shoulder exorbitant out-of-pocket repair costs—in my case, quoted at over $2,013. Because a compromised EGR system and corroded electrical harness can cause sudden engine performance failures while driving in traffic, and because Hyundai is limiting its accountability through arbitrary production windows, I am requesting that NHTSA investigate this systemic EGR and harness failure on 2022 Tucson Hybrid models and compel Hyundai to expand its safety coverage and reimburse affected owners for necessary repairs.

While driving my 2022 Hyundai Tucson Hybrid, the vehicle suddenly lost power, began shaking, and all warning lights illuminated at once. The issue involves the vehicle’s drivetrain and hybrid/electronic control system, where the car suddenly jerked forward in stop-and-go traffic on the freeway as if it had been struck from behind. Immediately following this event, the vehicle would not accelerate beyond approximately 40 mph, indicating a loss of normal power. This created a significant safety risk, as the sudden jerking could have led to a rear-end collision, and the inability to accelerate properly made it difficult to keep up with traffic on the freeway. I was barely able to safely pull off the freeway while surrounding traffic continued at higher speeds, increasing the risk to myself and other drivers. The problem appeared to resolve after turning the vehicle off and then back on; however, this raises concern about intermittent failure. The vehicle was taken to a dealership for inspection, but they were unable to reproduce or identify the issue. The vehicle remains available for inspection upon request. The vehicle has been inspected by a dealer but not by the manufacturer, police, or insurance representatives. Prior to the failure, there were no warning lights, messages, or noticeable symptoms indicating an issue. Based on similar reported experiences, this event may be consistent with a “limp mode” condition or a malfunction in the transition between the electric motor and gasoline engine, potentially involving the transmission or hybrid control system.

On XXX the vehicle lost motive power while my wife was accelerating to merge onto a highway with our two young children aboard. It would not accelerate and she was forced to pull over in an active merge area. Simultaneous warnings illuminated: Electronic Parking Brake, ESC, Forward Collision Avoidance, Blind Spot Detection, and hybrid system, with "Check Hybrid System" displayed. No crash or injury occurred, but loss of propulsion during a highway merge created serious collision risk. This is a recurring defect documented since early 2023: Hyundai's own Blue Link telematics auto-flagged an Engine Control System DTC on XXX; a jump-start was required XXX (dealer RO #XXX); check engine light and stored CAN-bus codes U100387, U100100, U004600, U010100 on 08/10/2023 (RO #XXX); and a September 2023 incident in which the center display shut off during reverse, disabling the backup camera. Hyundai performed Service Campaign 9B4 (BMS software update, DTC P1BB20, TSB 25-01-010H-1) on this VIN on XXX; the same failure category recurred 84 days later. The vehicle was towed to Safford Hyundai of [XXX] onXXX and has remained there 65+ consecutive days. The dealer replaced the 12V battery (defect persisted) and the Hybrid Power Control Unit (HPCU); per Hyundai Consumer Affairs' own written email ofXXX, the check engine light returned after the HPCU replacement and the cause "remains unidentified." The dealer states it cannot determine the root cause. The vehicle IS available for inspection at Safford Hyundai of Springfield, [XXX]. This is the 4th time that a new fuel pump has been replaced on this 2022 Hyundai Tucson hybrid. I think the car part needs a recall because the fuel pump keeps breaking.

The contact owns a 2022 Hyundai Tucson. The contact stated that while driving, after an hour, the vehicle was shaking and shuddering abnormally and the vehicle lost motive power. The driver was unable to maintain a steady speed while driving the vehicle. The vehicle was making an abnormal sound while driving at 60 MPH, and the vehicle was struggling to accelerate. There were no warning lights illuminated. The blue link indicated that the failure was associated with DTC: P03600. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, who was unable to retrieve a diagnostic trouble code. The vehicle was diagnosed as needing the fluid, tires, and brakes to be changed, and the low jack to be removed. The vehicle was not repaired. Another local dealer, Napleton Hyundai (4333 W Ogden Ave, Aurora, IL 60504) was contacted, but there was no response. The manufacturer was contacted, and a case was opened. The failure mileage was approximately 48,000.

All warning lights and audible alarms started going off at the same time. EPS, ABS, Auto Hold, Collision warning, Air bags, All wheel drive, brake system, and more.1st time it happened was [XXX], while driving. The car was drivable but I did notice a difference in braking and acceleration. I parked and turned off the car. I did turn the car back on several times and the alarms continued. I finally turned it off for 10 min, and all alarms stopped, but the check engine light stayed on. Car sat overnight and all warnings had stopped. Took it in for service, and issue could not be duplicated. 2nd time it happened was [XXX]. I had to have the car towed since it would not move when in drive or reverse. Alarms were still going off when it made it to service. They replaced the brake harness. 3rd time happened on [XXX], 3 days after the brake harness was replaced. Towed it to service and they replaced the engine harness. 4th time was on [XXX], 2 weeks after engine harness was replaced. This time there were no audible alarms, just all of the visual ones. Same performance issues as stated before. This issue seems to have happened to several other Hyundai owners as well, as per complaints in Reddit and on Hyundai forums. The blind spot warning went off and locked all the brakes up. We were not able to move the vehicle and could not even pull off the road out of traffic. There is no way to disable the brakes when the computer or sensors are malfunctioning. We had to get the vehicle towed.
Visibility

WIPERS STOP WORKING. THEY WILL FREEZE AND STOP MOVING ACROSS THE WINDSHIELD. SO FAR I CAN FIX THE PROBLEM BY TURNING THE WIPERS OFF AND THEN BACK ON. MY CONCERN IS THAT MAY NOT WORK IN THE FUTURE. ALSO, IN HEAVY RAIN AN ACCIDENT MAY HAPPEN BEFORE I CAN RESTART THE WIPERS. I BROUGHT THE CAR IN TO THE DEALERSHIP, BUT THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG.
On a clear day in December 2023 the sunroof on my 2022 Hyundai Tucson Hybrid 4d 4wd exploded. There was an incredibly loud bang while driving along Hwy [XXX] outside Wausau, Wisconsin. I had the inside of the sunshade closed. I pulled over at the next exit. It was a beautiful clear day. I drove back to town to the dealer I purchased the vehicle from. They said they had never heard of this happening. Our insurance agent told my husband she had dealt with the same issue 3 weeks earlier. Exterior lighting

After dark, the headlights will randomly switch from auto to parking lights to headlights on or completely off. When using the selector sometimes takes a few seconds to switch from auto to off and sometimes won’t switch off. This just started three days ago. It happens while it’s parked and while driving the lights will shut off. You can use the switch to turn them on but both auto and off take a while to be selected.
Driving at night when it snows is unsafe. The forward collision warning sensor is covered with snow within minutes and so are the headlights. They are placed in the front bumper and covered with snow because by their design they are not flush with the bumper. They are sitting deep within the bumper which creates a trap for snow and slush. I hade to stop every few minutes to clean the headlights from snow because they were covered and I couldn’t see anything in front. It’s a design flaw.

Gas cap won’t open
I wasn’t even allowed to select all the issues I’ve had with this vehicle since day of purchase three years ago June, and upon picking up the car I have had issues. My leather seats have bubbled up. My car will not merge. It will suddenly accelerate my car drops down in the middle of the road. My moonroof opens on its own. My car windows were randomly roll down on its own. My car breaks itself. My car emergency brake won’t unhook my car. Every single light is now on it. They have attempted to fix numerous times and my life has been put in jeopardy and my child’s life numerous times. No one can fix this issue. I am now told her I will have to wait three weeks for a rental because everyone’s backed up in diagnosing these cars. This car is going to kill me in my child and is a safety hazard. It does this stuff with lights on and without and it’s random and no warning my EV warning has come on my brake system. Warning has come on my car has been unable to stop and coasted and suddenly was able to then stop.

While driving, my entire dashboard lit up with every warning sound and symbol for the car. It would cycle through collision, airbags, braking, all of it. Luckily I was able to drive to a safe place. I let the car sit overnight and the alarms stopped. Took it to service and they could not recreate it and no codes showed up. Second time it happened, the warning sounds and lights didn’t stop. The car would jerk when I tried to put it in drive, so I had it towed to dealership. They have video and photos of it. After 2 weeks, they said it was fixed-a pin in a connector was bent. Had car for 3 days and it happened again. Had it towed again. They have had their ‘senior’ techs looking at it, and none can figure it out. The contact owns a 2022 Hyundai Tucson equipped with Michelin Tires, Tire Line: Primacy A/S Acoustic. Tire Size: 235/55/R19, DOT Number: (N/A). The contact stated that while driving at slow speeds, the vehicle began to wobble erratically, prompting the contact to pull over to the shoulder of the roadway. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who determined that the steel belts had separated from the tire wall on the front tires. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, a case was opened, and the contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The tires were original equipment. The failure mileage was 20,000.
Nexen Rodian GTX 235-65-R17 DOT 1UA9Y BMER 2822; 1UA9Y AACL 2822; 1UA9Y BAKL 2822; 1UA9Y I purchased a new 2022 Hyundai Tucson Hybrid Blue on October 29, 2022. I bought it right off the truck, no miles on it. Since owning this, I've completed all set maintenance, as required and recommended, including tire rotations (maintenance records attached). I just went over 24K miles, and at my 24K mile service, the Hyundai dealer told me I needed new tires. Tires that don't even last 25K miles can be very dangerous and this quality is unacceptable. Tires are available to be inspected. Safety was put at risk by having tires that deteriorated so quickly that I could have an accident without realizing I was even at risk. I've never had a need to check my tread depth at 24k miles before. Especially coming into winter, this could've caused a serious accident. Tires were inspected by dealer and routine service inspection. No warning of this prior to being told at the dealer. I contacted Nexen about a warranty and was told they don't warrant those tires for a specific mileage. They special lower quality and mileage tires are sold to the car manufactures for new vehicles. If this is the case, then car dealers need to tell buyers this upfront or someone is going to have a serious accident not knowing their tires are shot when they've barely had the car a year. I believe Nexen's tire quality should be looked into and would like to submit a claim. It was on all four tires. I have supporting documentation for tire photos, maintenance records, and correspondence on my rejected claim that I can provide.

The contact owns a 2022 Hyundai Tucson. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the hybrid alert warning light illuminated, and the vehicle then decelerated. The contact veered the vehicle off the road and turned the vehicle off and restarted the vehicle. The collision alert and check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the contact was informed of an unknown issue with the power train however, the contact was informed that failure was corrected independently and that the check engine warning light needed to be reset. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and provided a case number. The failure mileage was approximately 4,000.

Speed control on steering wheel not responding all the time. When car is on cruise control speed instead or decrease control not responding all the time. I was almost going to hit the vehicle on high way i decreased the speed according to front of my car but controller not responding speed didn't decreased I suddenly realized that slammed on break. Nothing was happened i already sent email to hyundai but no respond. I looks defective controller switch. Now other side of steering volume control switch also becomes loose
