Recalls, owner-reported complaints, investigations and safety data

Data refreshed

Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

Safety recallsA safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Whether a specific vehicle is covered depends on its VIN — a recall listed for a model year does not necessarily apply to every vehicle of that year.
0
InvestigationsNHTSA opens an investigation to examine whether a safety defect may exist. An open investigation is not a determination that a defect exists, and many investigations close without a recall. Investigations can, however, lead to one.
0
Crash or fire reportedComplaints whose submitter recorded that a crash or a fire occurred. These are the reporter's own answers on the NHTSA form, not verified findings.

DT: CONTACT STATED THERE WAS 20,800 MILES ON CAR AND ON 8-2-05 THE SERVICE DEALER TOLD HIM THE BRAKE PADS ON THE REAR BRAKES WORN OUT. HAD NEW TIRES PUT ON, AND THAT WAS WHEN THEY TOLD HIM THE CALIPERS ON THE REAR WERE CORRODED. THE CONSUMER RECEIVED A NOTICE FROM HYUNDAI ON 8-4-05 STATING THAT THEY RECOMMENDED THAT THE CALIPERS BE INSPECTED EVERY 15,000 MILES . THE CONSUMER WAS GOING BY HIS MANUAL WHICH STATED EVERY 30,000 MILES. THE WARRANTY DOES NOT COVER VEHICLE BECAUSE HE FAILED TO HAVE IT INSPECTED; BUT WAS GOING BY OWNER'S MANUAL, AND HE JUST RECEIVED THE NOTICE FROM HYUNDAI. *AK

I HAVE TAKEN MY CAR TO THE DEALER ON 3 OCCASIONS BECAUSE I CAN FEEL A VERY ROUGH JERK WHEN THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTS AT SPEEDS BETWEEN 30 AND 45 MPH AND/OR AGAIN AT 50-65 MPH. I AM ABOUT TO MAKE A 4TH APPOINTMENT FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. THE SERVICE DATES ARE 9/29/03 ODOMETER = 35831; 3/27/04 ODOMETER = 43206; 5/29/04 ODOMETER = 45826. CURRENTLY ODOMETER = 53991. EACH TIME THE REPAIR, WHICH WAS UNDER WARRANTY, INVOLVED A SOFTWARE DOWNLOAD. ON 5-29-04, THE SOP CRUISE SWITCH WAS REPLACED. THIS STILL HAS NOT FIXED THE PROBLEM. NOW I AM VERY CONCERNED BECAUSE THE WARRANTY WILL SOON EXPIRE AND I WILL EITHER HAVE TO START PAYING FOR THE REPAIR OR BUY A NEW CAR SOONER THAN I HAD PLANNED. I LIKE BOTH THE CAR AND THE DEALER. I JUST WANT TO GET THE PROBLEM RESOLVED. *NM

ON TWO OCCASIONS I HAVE HAD A CHIP IN THE FRONT WINDSHIELD OF MY 2001 HYUNDAI 300L, THE FIRST TIME WAS AUGUST 2002, THIS WAS REPAIRED THROUGH MY INSURANCE COMPANY. THE SECOND TIME WAS IN NOVEMBER 2002 - THIS HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. ONE OF MY FRIENDS HAS A HYUNDAI ACCENT AND HE JUST HAD A STONE CHIP AND WINDSHIELD HAD TO BE REPLACE. I HAD MINE FIXED AT SAFE-T-GLASS IN WALLKINLL NY AND THEY INFORMED ME THAT THEY FIX MORE HYUNDAI WINDSHIELDS THAN ANY OTHER CAR. MY FRIEND HAD HIS REPLACED AT ROSEN'S GLASS IN MIDDLETOWN, NY THIS PAST WEEK AND THE OWNER STATED THAT HYUNDAI GLASS IS "'!@#$%" AND THEY HAVE REPLACE A "TON" OF THEM. I WANT TO KNOW IF THIS IS A DEFECTIVE SAFETY PRODUCT AND CAN THIS BE CHECKED INTO? THANK YOU - KEN NAGLE. *NLM

Manufacturer communications

A bulletin sent by a manufacturer to its dealers. Not a recall, and repairs are not necessarily free.

25-BD-012H TSB

EXTERIOR LIGHTING

This bulletin provides information regarding condensation related to the accumulated moisture in the headlamp, rear combination lamp, daytime running lamp (DRL), or fog lamp. This TSB illustrates the various causes of condensation inside the lamp assembly. Lamp assembly replacement is NOT necessary in most cases. This condition can be eliminated by turning on the lamps with the engine running for several minutes or during normal driving operation.

24-BD-001H

VISIBILITY; VISIBILITY/WIPER

This bulletin contains information about the proper removal of the windshield wiper blade protective cover on all models. If the protective cover is not removed correctly, there is a possibility of the rubber insert and rail spring becoming partially separated on the inner side of the wiper blade, which could lead to poor wiping performance and/or possible scratching of the windshield glass. Follow the procedure in this bulletin to properly remove the windshield wiper blade protective cover on all new wiper blades.

23-EM-005H

ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING

This bulletin provides important checkpoint guidelines when performing engine oil and filter change services.

23-BD-007H

STRUCTURE:BODY

Hyundai applies a Paint Protection Film (PPF) on new vehicles before delivery to dealerships. It provides a barrier between the paint and contaminants, such as rail dust, acid rain, and industrial fallout. In rare cases, the paint can become clouded under the PPF. These spots are the result of moisture trapped between the PPF and the paint.

23-BD-002H

VISIBILITY

This bulletin provides information regarding condensation related to the accumulated moisture in the headlamp, rear combination lamp, daytime running lamp (DRL), or fog lamp. This TSB illustrates the various causes of condensation inside the lamp assembly. Lamp assembly replacement is NOT necessary in most cases. This condition can be eliminated by turning on the lamps with the engine running for several minutes or during normal driving operation.

22-EM-010H

ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING

Follow the guidelines outlined in this bulletin to inspect and clean or replace certain components of the engine intake system accordingly during engine short block or sub-assembly replacement.

Manufacturers file copies of the bulletins they send to dealers with NHTSA. These often describe diagnostic or repair procedures for a known condition. They are not recalls: repairs described in a bulletin are usually only free if the vehicle is still under warranty or the manufacturer has extended coverage.

Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers. Older model years have had longer for reports to accumulate.
