What the reports in each category say, in the owners' own words
Powertrain (other)
Powertrain reports that are not specifically the engine or transmission — driveshafts, axles, transfer cases and differentials.
From owner reports, verbatim
While operating the vehicle, the transmission suffered an abrupt failure resulting in Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P0720 (Output Speed Sensor Circuit). Further diagnostic inspection revealed a complete internal failure of the integrated valve body assembly, which houses the Transmission Control Module (TCM), solenoids, and output speed sensors. The failure caused an immediate loss of gear selection, restricting the transmission to 3rd gear ("limp mode"). Attempting to accelerate beyond 3rd gear causes violent vehicle shaking, severe hesitation, and an inability to maintain traffic speeds due to the TCM losing signal input from the speed sensors and solenoid circuits. This total valve body/TCM failure creates a critical safety hazard. Sudden restriction to 3rd gear without warning on highways or during turn movements leaves the vehicle unable to match surrounding traffic speeds, creating an immediate risk of a rear-end or side-impact collision. The vehicle has been strictly maintained according to manufacturer schedules. Because Nissan/Infiniti designed the TCM and speed sensors as an integrated unit inside the hydraulic valve body, a sensor failure requires replacing the entire valve body/TCM unit—a repair quoted at over $3,000, with complete transmission replacement exceeding that cost. This valve body/TCM failure mode is widely documented among Infiniti Q50 owners sharing the RE7R01A 7-speed automatic transmission platform, indicating a widespread electronic and mechanical defect that threatens driver safety.
While driving my 2015 Infiniti Q50s, the transmission suddenly suffered a catastrophic electronic failure, causing the vehicle to immediately drop into "limp mode." This resulted in a sudden and dangerous loss of acceleration while operating in traffic. A diagnostic scan revealed trouble codes P0500 and P0720 (Output Speed Sensor circuit). However, following Infiniti's official Technical Service Bulletin (TSB ITB19-040), the actual failure was the Transmission Control Module (TCM), which is permanently integrated into the transmission control valve body inside the transmission. Because the speed sensor cannot be replaced independently of the integrated module, I was forced to pay out-of-pocket to replace the entire transmission control valve body assembly and have a dealership program the new unit. This is a widely documented, premature failure on this vehicle platform that creates an immediate highway safety hazard when the vehicle drops power without warning.
Steering
Reports naming the steering system — racks, columns, power-steering assist and steering linkage.
From owner reports, verbatim
After starting the car the steering wheel jumps off center and the steering is all over the place. have to start the car again and the steering wheel jumps the other direction. I strongly suggest this is exactly what the June 13, 2016 NHTSA campaign number 16V43000 the software may reduce steering ability and increase risk of crash.the direct steering system my experience an error at vehicle start up altering the vehicle steering responsiveness and turning radius. Exact problem with this car. This car has been recalled for the driveshaft break NHSTA 24V470000
DIRECT ADAPTIVE STEERING EXPERIENCEING AT START UP ALTERING THE VEHICLES STEERING AND RESPONSIVENESS AND TURNING RADIUS DOES NOT WORK AND IS INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH. VERY UNSAFE TO DRIVE. THERE IS A RECALL 16V430000 ON THIS VERY PROBLEM. HAVE BEEN TOLD BY DEALERSHIP AND NISSAN MOTORS THAT MY CAR IS NOT ON THE RECALL AND I WILL HAVE TO PAY MY SELF TO GET FIXED AND TO SEE IF THAT IS THE PROBLEM. READING THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER:16V430000 THIS IS THE EXACT PROBLEM WITH THE DIRECT ADAPTIVE STEERING SYSTEM ON THIS CAR. I BELIEVE THIS SHOULD BE COVERED BY THE RECALL!
Driver assistance
Reports naming forward-collision avoidance, lane keeping, back-over prevention, cruise control and related electronic driver-assistance systems.
From owner reports, verbatim

The transmission speed sensor has failed needs a new valve body. It seems like a very common problem with this car and it’s a $3000 fix according to my mechanic. I think there needs to be a recall issued considering everybody on this website is reporting the same problems.
Airbags
Reports naming the air-bag system — deployment behaviour, inflators, sensors and warning lights.
From owner reports, verbatim
Air bag light suddenly said “passenger airbag off”. Don’t have to brake to switch gears. Steering at times feels a bit off.
Upon driving when purchased the Engine Light for the Air Bags illuminated. Upon researching the issue the problem seems to be a common problem for vehicles of this make and problem. 90% of the time requiring the owner to take the vehicle to the dealership.Since it is a trend and ongoing I wanted to report the issue.
Electrical
Reports naming the electrical system — wiring, battery, charging, control modules, infotainment and electrical accessories.
From owner reports, verbatim
The valve body on these cars are useless. Driving down a highway and cant shift out of 3rd gear almost had a car re-end me. Today I am driving and the ECU is not responding I see the check engine light on then I'm like not again. This would be the 3rd valve body I replaced. First I replaced the whole transmission thinking that is what I needed and advised that the valve body and the transmission are one. Yet no they come in parts. Anyways today I am waiting to get home, but the car is not reading my key fob why? Then the ECU and code U0100 is popping up. Something new and turns the car off. The shifting that happen earlier was just a light bulb of I already knew what is wrong. I felt the car shift with a hunch so I looked at my dash board and saw the check engine light again and was like not again. Please not again. Now on the dash board I see AWD and chassis issue. Then online I am told electrical problem and or ECU module not reading correctly. Like what is up with these push to starts. They are becoming a headache. I need to know just why I am replacing my valve body now for the 4th time???? This all can cause an accident that my car randomly slows down.
The car just slowed down super fast on freeway almost got rear ended. It would not go past 3rd gear. Poor acceleration. Could have caused a huge accident. I got it diagnosed and they said it is valve body/speed sensor/tcm and they said this is a COMMON problem for 2015 Q50. I replaced this part 2 years ago and here we go again. Shop diagnosed and said this tcm (transmission control module which is in the transmission) but they have to change whole transmission. Everything happened all the sudden then check engine light came on.
Brakes
Reports naming service brakes, the antilock braking system, brake hoses, master cylinders or the parking brake.
From owner reports, verbatim
My braking system completely failed while I was driving with no warning of sound or dash safety indicators. The only way I was able to stop my vehicle is by shifting into park while I was in motion. Two days prior to my car losing all ability to brake, my car was routinely serviced by the local dealership. All check points were green, including my brakes. The dealership towed my car back to the service center to inspect. The diagnostics came back as the break actuator unit (computer sensor) shorted which led to no communication to the brake control assist unit (computer sensor). This loss of communication between these sensors basically caused my brake functions to fail. I was fortunate to have been leaving a parking garage and not on the open road. This could have been a fatal incident. The repairs are $7000 of which Infiniti has only offered to cover $3000. This is a safety issue and a loss of faith with Infiniti as a vehicle manufacturer. There needs to be an investigation so no lives are lost. My vehicle is still not fixed.
Brake Pedal sinks to floor slowly at Red Lights. Randomly vehicle will yank seat belt back when abs module detects no brake fluid pressure once in a blue moon. This is because of the defective ABS module hydraulics leak internally from the factory. As brake fluid heats up the internal leak gets worse. Most likely check ball to pump or out valve leaking by. Model year 2015 for sure. I never got it covered under warranty because the problem starts out very random and takes a lot of time for it to always happen. Dealers will just say no problem found. ABS module cost $1k for me to buy at the dealer. Now I have brakes all the time again no thanks to a factory defect module randomly giving poor to no braking power. Internet forums of 2014-2016 have many people saying the same thing. Not the master cylinder, it is an internally leaking ABS module and will have no codes. Not happy about paying to replace a factory defective part.
Engine
Reports naming the engine itself — including stalling, misfires, oil consumption, cooling and internal engine components.
From owner reports, verbatim

The contact owns a 2015 Infiniti Q50. The contact stated while driving 40 MPH, the accelerator was depressed; however, the vehicle failed to shift into gear properly, with the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was able to be restarted. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed that the transmission valve body had failed, and the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 94,150.
Exterior lighting
Reports naming headlights, tail lights, turn signals and other exterior lighting.
From owner reports, verbatim
SINCE I RECEIVED THE CAR BACK IN 2015, THE REAR BACK UP CAMERA HAS A TENDENCY TO REMAIN ON THE SCREEN EVEN WHEN THE VEHICLE IS PLACED FROM REVERSE TO DRIVE. I HAVE TAKEN THE CAR INTO THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE CENTER ON CONEY ISLAND AVENUE IN BROOKLYN NY NUMEROUS TIMES AND SHOWED THEM HOW THE REAR CAMERA WAS STUCK ON THE VIDEO MONITOR. THEY SUGGESTED I SHUT THE CAR OFF AND STARTED IT AGAIN, WHICH ALLEVIATED THE ISSUE TEMPORARILY UNTIL IT HAPPENED NUMEROUS TIMES AGAIN. THIS POSES A VERY SERIOUS HAZARD ESPECIALLY IF YOU CANNOT STOP AND RESTART THE CAR.
IN THE CASE OF MOST NEWER CARS, INCLUDING MY OWN, THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE RULES FOR HEADLIGHTS. WHEN THE LIGHTS ARE IN THE ON OR AUTO POSITION, THE HEADLIGHTS WILL COME ON, AS WELL AS THE TAIL-LIGHTS. WHEN THE LIGHTS ARE IN THE OFF POSITION, NEWER CARS WILL SENSE WHEN TWILIGHT IS FALLING AND TURN ON BOTH THE HEADLIGHTS AND DASHBOARD LIGHTS BUT NOT THE TAIL-LIGHTS. THIS WILL GIVE THE DRIVER THE SENSE THAT HE HAS HIS LIGHTS ON (FOR HE CAN SEE THAT HIS HEADLIGHTS ARE ON) BUT HAS NO IDEA THAT HIS TAIL-LIGHTS ARE NOT ON, AND THAT THEREFORE HIS CAR IS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO SEE IN THE DARK. THE ONLY INDICATOR IN MY CAR THAT WOULD TELL ME IS THE GREEN LIGHT ON MY DASHBOARD TELLING ME THAT THE HEADLIGHTS ON IN THE ON OR AUTO POSITION. I AM AN UBER DRIVER IN SAN FRANCISCO AND FIND MYSELF TELLING MANY DRIVERS OF MANY DIFFERENT KINDS OF CARS THAT THEIR LIGHTS ARE NOT IN THE ON POSITION. THEY ARE ALWAYS GRATEFUL TO KNOW. THE PROBLEM, I THINK, IS THAT ALL THE CAR MANUFACTURERS ARE FOLLOWING YOUR DIRECTIONS, NOT THINKING OUTSIDE THE BOX, AND NOT REALIZING THAT YOU AND THEY HAVE CREATED A POTENTIALLY DEADLY SITUATION. I HOPE THAT YOU CAN DIRECT AUTO MANUFACTURERS TO REPAIR AND REPLACE THIS SITUATION. IF THE HEADLIGHTS GO ON, THEN THE TAIL-LIGHTS NEED TO GO ON, REGARDLESS OF THE POSITION ON THE LIGHTING STEM. THANK YOU. IF YOU NEED TO TALK TO ME ABOUT THIS MORE, I CAN BE REACHED AT [XXX]. INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

Fuel system
Reports naming fuel storage or delivery — tanks, pumps, lines, injectors and fuel leaks.
From owner reports, verbatim
ENGINE AND/OR TRANSMISSION LOST TORQUE POWER. SINCE 2016 WHILE CAR ONLY HAD 11,000 MILES ALL OF THE SUDDEN CAR LOST TORQUE POWER WHILE ACCELERATING. CHECK ENGINE INDICATOR HAS NEVER LIGHT UP AND DEALER CONSULT SCANNER HAS NEVER FOUND THE ISSUE. STILL CAR DOESNT HAVE SAME ACCELERATION NOR TORQUE WHILE GOING 0-60MPH. ALREADY I'VE SEEN SO FAR 4 CARS OF THE SAME YEAR WITH SPEED SENSOR PROBLEMS AND REPLACEMENT. MECHANICS SAY IT BEGINS BY LOOSING POWER UNTIL STOPS WORKING AND CAR WONT MOVE.
I HAVE A 2015 INFINITI Q50. I BELIEVE I'M EXPERIENCING THE SAME FUEL PUMP ECO MODE PROBLEM AS THE 2016-2017 Q50. ME, MY WIFE AND NEWBORN DAUGHTER WERE ON OUR WAY HOME ON THE EXPRESS WAY DURING RUSH HOUR IN ECO MODE WITH APPROXIMATELY 35 MILES BEFORE EMPTY, WE WERE ABOUT 2 MILES AWAY FROM THE NEAREST FUEL STATION. WE WERE TRAVELING EAST DOING ABOUT 40 MPH DUE TO HEAVY TRAFFIC WHEN ALL OF SUDDEN MY Q50 STARTED TO BOG DOWN AND THEN EVENTUALLY STALLED . LUCKILY WE WERE RIGHT NEXT TO THE SHOULDER. I PULL OVER POP THE HOOD LOOKED EVERYTHING OVER AND ALL SEEMED FINE. TRIED TO RESTART AND CAR WOULD TURN OVER, START, AND THEN STALL AS IF THERE WAS ISN'T ANY GAS IN THE CAR. AFTER CALLING MY FATHER IN LAW , WHILE WAITING, I LOOKED UP THE SYMPTOMS AND SAW THE SAME ISSUE IN THE 2016-17 MODELS, RECALL #17V476000 RECALL DATE 07/27/2017 COMPONENT ELECTRICAL SYSTEM: SOFTWARE. I MEAN SYMPTOMS WERE SPOT ON EXACT. I BELIEVE THIS NEEDS TO BE INVESTIGATED AS I'M PROBABLY NOT THE ONLY PERSON WITH A 2015 Q50 EXPERIENCING THIS. WITH THE CALIPER OF THIS CAR THIS SHOULD NOT BE HAPPENING AND I MOST DEFINITELY DON'T WANT THIS TO HAPPEN WHILE MY WIFE AND DAUGHTER ARE TRAVELING TOGETHER WITHOUT ME. I ALSO CALLED THE INFINITI DEALERSHIP FOR THEM TO ONLY MAKE ME FEEL LIKE THEY DIDN'T WANT TO DEAL WITH IT. PLEASE HELP SAFE CAR.GOV

Interior & seats
Reports naming seats, latches, locks, linkages and interior fittings.
From owner reports, verbatim
WHILE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION THERE'S A SQUEAKING NOISE COMING FROM UNDER THE DRIVER'S SEAT TOWARDS THE MIDDLE CONSOLE. THE SQUEAKING NOISE USUALLY HAPPENS WHEN TURNING OR DRIVING OVER SPEED BUMPS/MANHOLE COVERS AND THINGS ALIKE AND THESE INCIDENTS OCCUR MOSTLY ON CITY STREETS.
ON 12-04-2018 MY WIFE AND I BEGAN A ROAD TRIP FROM SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA TO BOZEMAN, MONTANA IN OUR 2015 INFINITI Q50. THE INFINITI Q50 IS EQUIPPED WITH DRIVER AND PASSENGER SEAT WARMERS. DUE TO THE EXTREME COLD, MY WIFE (PASSENGER) ACTIVATED HER RIGHT FRONT PASSENGER SEAT WARMER TO THE HIGH SETTING. THE RIGHT FRONT PASSENGER SEAT WARMER WAS ACTIVATED FROM NORTHERN NEVADA TO IDAHO FALLS, IDAHO, APPROXIMATELY FOR 9 HOURS. AS WE APPROACHED IDAHO FALLS, MY WIFE AND I BEGAN TO SMELL A BURNT ODOR COMING FROM WITHIN THE INTERIOR OF THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT OF THE INFINITI. WE IMMEDIATELY PULLED OVER AND MY WIFE LOCATED THE BURNT SMELL COMING FROM THE RIGHT FRONT PASSENGER SEAT WHERE MY WIFE'S RIGHT ELBOW HAD BEEN RESTING DURING THE TRIP. THE SEAT WARMER HAD HEATED THE SEAT TO THE POINT WHERE IT HAD BURNED THROUGH THE LAYERING AND SOFTENED THE LEATHER TO THE POINT WHERE MY WIFE'S ELBOW WENT THROUGH. THIS WAS AN IMMEDIATE CONCERN AND WE TURNED OFF BOTH SEAT WARMERS. ON 12-17-2018, UPON OUR RETURN FROM MONTANA WE TOOK THE INFINITI Q50 TO THE PERRY INFINITI DEALERSHIP OF ESCONDIDO, CA WHERE IT WAS LEFT FOR INSPECTION. ON 12-19-2018 WE WERE TOLD BY PERRY INFINITI DEALERSHIP THAT THE DAMAGE WOULD NOT BE COVERED DUE TO THEIR FINDINGS. PERRY INFINITI STATED THAT THEY BELIEVED THE DAMAGE TO BE CAUSED BY AN OUTSIDE SOURCE. THIS TO US WAS IMPOSSIBLE SINCE WE ARE NOT SMOKERS NOR DO WE TRANSPORT ANY FLAMMABLE PRODUCTS IN OUR VEHICLE. WE CONTACTED THE INFINITY CONSUMER AFFAIRS AND REPORTED THE INCIDENT BUT MET WITH THE SAME NEGATIVE RESULTS. A CONSUMER AFFAIRS CASE WAS STARTED AND WE WERE TOLD THAT THE ULTIMATE DECISION WOULD BE MADE BY THE DEALERSHIP. WE FIND THIS VERY DISTURBING AND SEE FUTURE ISSUES WITH INFINITI'S SEAT WARMERS THAT COULD ULTIMATELY LEAD TO BODILY HARM. THANK GOD FOR MY WIFE'S LAYERING OF CLOTHING OR SHE MAY HAVE RECEIVED BODILY HARM.

Seat belts
Reports naming seat belts, buckles, retractors and pretensioners.
From owner reports, verbatim
The contact owns a 2015 Infiniti Q50. The contact stated that while driving approximately 50 MPH, the vehicle began to overheat and smoke was present coming from under the hood. After stopping to inspect the vehicle the contact opened the hood and flames were present in the engine compartment. The contact immediately extinguished the flames using water. The vehicle was later towed to the local dealer. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The contact indicated that prior to the fire the vehicle had also experienced transmission shifting failures and the front driver's side and passenger side seat belts were locked in the retracted position and could not be used. The cause of the failures was not determined. The manufacturer was not notified of the failures. The failure mileage was 80,000.
The contact owns a 2015 Infiniti Q50. The contact stated that when she was about to drive the vehicle, her son who was sitting in the passenger’s side seat noticed that the passenger seat belt retractor was locked. Her son was unable to stretch the seat belt to securely buckle the seat belt. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the entire seat belt assembly needed to be replaced. The contact also contacted Bob Moore Infiniti (13000 N Kelley Ave, Oklahoma City, OK 73131) who informed her that she would be responsible for the cost of the repair. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 96,200.

Body & structure
Reports naming the vehicle structure, frame, body panels, doors, hood and trim.
From owner reports, verbatim
The door lock of the driver's door is stuck in the locked position and the door cannot be unlocked or opened. It will not unlock using the key fob, nor with the manual control inside the door, nor with the emergency key from outside the car. This could trap an inured driver inside the car in the event of an accident. The car has not yet been inspected by anyone. There was no warning lamps or messages prior to the failure. Earlier that same day the door failed to open while in gear but did so when I shifted to park. As this car was very recently purchased by me and I am still learning about it, I failed to recognize this a symptom of an impending failure. Regardless of that warning, total failure occurred the same day. As a graduate engineer who has worked in engineering related fields for more then 50 years I can recognize that a failure mode such as this is both a health and safety hazard to occupants in the event of an accident and a design defect that should not be allowed to be sold to the general public. Thank you for any consideration you give this complaint.
the miles on the car were changed and trying to sell without the information aswell as the car is trying to get sold as a salvage title car without dealer license on facebook but they tempered with the miles on the car making it look like it only has 30k when in reality it was last reported to have 180k

DUNLOP P245/R40R19 RUN FLATS. THESE TIRES SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO BE SOLD TO THE PUBLIC UNTIL THE ISSUES ARE RESOLVED. WE WERE DRIVING HOME WHEN THE FLAT TIRE LIGHT CAME HOME. WE WERE ON CITY STREETS. AAA PUT ON THE SPARE TIRE. THE DEALERSHIP STATED ON THE REPAIR ORDER THAT THE SIDEWALL OF TIRE WAS BLOWN OUT. WE HAD TO PURCHASE A NEW TIRE FOR $468. A WEEK LATER - THE 3 REMAINING TIRES ALL HAVE BUBBLES ON THE SIDEWALLS. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD! I AM UNABLE TO GET NEW TIRES UNTIL TOMORROW AS THEY HAVE TO BE ORDERED AND I'M ORDERING MICHELINS - NOT DUNLOPS! ONLY DRIVEN ON THE NEW FOR 2 WEEKS AND CAN NOT RECEIVE A REFUND OR A PORTION OF THE MONEY BACK THAT I'VE SPEND. I HAVE A COMPLAINT IN TO GOODYEAR WHO HAVE STATED THAT THEY "MAY" ATTEMPT TO MAKE THE ISSUE RIGHT. THEY TOLD ME TO HAVE THE TIRES INSPECTED - WHICH I HAVE - ONLY TO BE TOLD WHAT I ALREADY KNOW - THEY ALL HAVE DAMAGE TO THE SIDEWALL. WE'VE ONLY PUT 14K MILES ON THE TIRES TOTAL.
SIDEWALL TEAR AND BUBBLE. TIRES HAD TO BE REPLACED 4 TIMES IN 1 YEAR . LEFT FRONT TIRE WAS REPLACED AT 3,058 MILES. LEFT TIRE WAS REPLACED AGAIN AT 5,923 MILES. RIGHT FRONT TIRE WAS REPLACED AT 6,811 MILES. RIGHT FRONT TIRE WAS REPLACED AGAIN AT 17,760

The contact owns a 2015 Infiniti Q50. While driving at various speeds, the transmission was slow to shift. The vehicle failed to properly accelerate while depressing the accelerator pedal, and the check engine warning light remained illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local transmission mechanic to be diagnosed, and it was determined that the gear ratio and speed sensor inside the transmission valve body were faulty, and that the valve body needed to be replaced. The valve body was replaced, and the failure was repaired; however, one week later, the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was taken back to the mechanic, and it was informed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer and local dealer were not contacted. The failure mileage was 99,000.
