SUMMARY OF INFORMATION FROM THE MANUFACTURER: FORD HAS SUBMITTED 40 OWNERCOMPLAINTS WHICH ALLEGE IN-DASH FIRES. IT DOES NOT BELIEVE THAT THECOMPLAINTS INDICATE A DEFECT NOR ARE THEY SAFETY RELATED.ANALYSIS:A REVIEW OF THE COMPLAINTS WAS CONDUCTED.VARIOUS COMPONENTSWERE ALLEGED TO HAVE BEEN THE SOURCE OF THE FIRES.THE FAN MOTOR, BLOWERRESISTOR, WIRING, INSULATION, AND THE A/C CONTROL MODULE HAVE BEEN REPORTEDAS DEFECTIVE.THERE IS NO PATTERN OF DEFECT.NO REPORTED INJURIESSTATUS:CLOSED 6/30/87.======
