Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

Safety recallsA safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Whether a specific vehicle is covered depends on its VIN — a recall listed for a model year does not necessarily apply to every vehicle of that year.
0
InvestigationsNHTSA opens an investigation to examine whether a safety defect may exist. An open investigation is not a determination that a defect exists, and many investigations close without a recall. Investigations can, however, lead to one.
0
Crash or fire reportedComplaints whose submitter recorded that a crash or a fire occurred. These are the reporter's own answers on the NHTSA form, not verified findings.

Overview

Our database contains 5 NHTSA owner-reported complaints for the 1996 Isuzu Oasis (vo), most frequently naming the airbags, brakes and driver assistance categories. 8 manufacturer communications are on file.

Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

What owners report

Complaints grouped by the component NHTSA recorded

  • Airbags233.3%
  • Brakes116.7%
  • Driver assistance116.7%
  • Seat belts116.7%
  • Tires & wheels116.7%

Percentages are of component mentions. A single complaint can name more than one component, so these do not sum to the total complaint count.

Safety recalls

No recalls in our database for this model year

That does not guarantee a specific vehicle is unaffected — recalls are issued against VINs, and new campaigns are announced regularly. Check a VIN on NHTSA.gov.

THE SRS LIGHT CAME ON IN OUR 1996 ISUZU OASIS MINIVAN. THE MECHANIC AT ISUZU SAID IT WOULDN'T RESPOND TO HIS DIAGNOSTIC COMPUTER AND WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE AIRBAGS COULD NOT BE COUNTED ON TO PROTECT US IN AN ACCIDENT. IT WOULD COST $675 FOR THE PART ALONE, NOT COUNTING THE LABOR CHARGES. THE SRS UNIT IS A HONDA PART (THE OASIS IS THE HONDA ODYSSEY). MY MECHANIC TRIED TO GET THE PART FROM A LOCAL HONDA DEALERSHIP SERVICE AND THE HONDA MECHANIC TOLD HIM THAT HONDA IS COVERING REPLACEMENT OF THAT PART IN THE ODYSSEY FOR FREE UNDER WARRANTY. I CALLED ISUZU AND THEY CURRENTLY HAVE NO RECALL OF THAT PART, HOWEVER THERE ARE MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS ON NHTSA'S WEB SITE FOR 1996 ODYSSEYS AND 1996 OASIS'S HAVING THIS SAME PROBLEM. *AK I AM CONCERNED REGARDING OUR SAFETY IF OUR CAR IS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT AND THE AIRBAGS ARE NOT FUNCTIONING. I ALSO QUESTION WHY THIS SRS UNIT IN AN 8 YEAR OLD CAR WOULD HAVE BURNED OUT PREMATURELY REQUIRING SUCH A COSTLY REPAIR. CERTAINLY YOU WOULDN'T EXPECT THAT TO HAPPEN TO THIS NUMBER OF PEOPLE UNLESS THERE WAS A DEFECT IN THE SRS UNIT IN THE FIRST PLACE. I WOULD APPRECIATE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION REGARDING THIS PROBLEM. THANK YOU

WHEN GOING ON REVERSE (BACKING UP) AND I COME TO A COMPLETE STOP THE FRONT WHEELS MAKE A CLICKING SOUND THAT IS MORE OF A CRACKING SOUND. IT FEELS LIKE IF THE TIRES ARE GOING TO COME OFF. MY BROTHER WHOM ALSO HAD A MINI VAN LIKE MINE, EXCEPT HIS WAS A 1997 HONDA ODDISSEY NOTICED THE PROBLEM BEFORE I HAD NOTICED MINE. ANOTHER FRIEND FROM CHURCH WITH A 1996 ISUZU OASIS SHARED THE SAME PROBLEM: (THE CLICKING SOUND WHEN GOING ON REVERSE) I DID NOT WORRY BECAUSE MINE DID NOT HAVE THAT CLICKING SOUND UNTIL JUST RECENTLY (AT 47,909 MILES). THIS IS OUR FAMILY CAR AND THERE MIGHT BE A PROBLEM WITH EITHER SUSPENSION, WHEELS OR WHATEVER HOLDS THE WHEELS. WE DON'T FEELS SECURE ANYMORE UNLESS THIS IS NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT. PLEASE CONTACT ME IF THERE ARE OTHER PEOPLE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. IS THIS SOMETHING TO WORRY ABOUT? THANKS A LOT FOR YOUR TIME. SINCERELY, DANIEL MIRANDA.*AK

Manufacturers file copies of the bulletins they send to dealers with NHTSA. These often describe diagnostic or repair procedures for a known condition. They are not recalls: repairs described in a bulletin are usually only free if the vehicle is still under warranty or the manufacturer has extended coverage.

Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers. Older model years have had longer for reports to accumulate.
