The defect: THE EGR VALVE ASSEMBLY MAY DEVELOP CRACKS AT THE WELDED JOINT BETWEEN THE VALVE AND THE VALVE SHAFT. CRACKS MAY ENLARGE WITH CONTINUED USE AND THE VALVE COULD SEPARATE FROM THE SHAFT.
The remedy: DEALER WILL INSTALL A NEW EGR GASKET AND VALVE, IF NECESSARY.

The defect: DURING A PISTON PIN MANUFACTURING PROCESS, CRACKS HAVE OCCURRED IN THE INNER SURFACE OF THE PIN. THESE CRACKS COULD LEAD TO COMPLETE BREAKAGE OF THE PIN, WHICH IN TURN COULD RESULT IN ENGINE FAILURE AND POSSIBLE SUDDEN ENGINE SEIZURE.
The remedy: DEALER WILL REPLACE PISTON PINS ON THE INVOLVED VEHICLES AT NO COST TO OWNER.

POWER TRAIN:AXLE ASSEMBLY:AXLE SHAFT

The defect: THE COTTER PIN, WHICH IS USED TO SECURE THE REAR AXLE SHAFT LOCK NUT, MAY HAVE BEEN INADVERTENTLY OMITTED DURING VEHICLE ASSEMBLY. IF THE COTTER PIN IS MISSING, THE LOCK NUT COULD LOOSEN DURING VEHICLE OPERATION. THIS COULD LEAD TO A SEPARATION OF THE BRAKE DRUM/REAR WHEEL ASSEMBLY FROM THE AXLE SHAFT.
The remedy: UPON INSPECTION, A COTTER PIN WILL BE INSTALLED IF MISSING AND THE LOCK NUT WILL BE PROPERLY SECURED WITHOUT CHARGE TO OWNER.

Manufacturer communication
Manufacturers file copies of the bulletins they send to dealers with NHTSA. These often describe diagnostic or repair procedures for a known condition. They are not recalls: repairs described in a bulletin are usually only free if the vehicle is still under warranty or the manufacturer has extended coverage.
