1996 Isuzu Rodeo Engine Problems

Owner-reported complaints naming the engine system, filed with NHTSA

Data refreshed

Engine reportsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

What this page shows

Reports naming the engine itself — including stalling, misfires, oil consumption, cooling and internal engine components. Every record below is an owner-reported complaint about the 1996 Isuzu Rodeo submitted to NHTSA — not a confirmed defect, not a recall and not a manufacturer bulletin. 14 reports on file name it.

Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

I HAVE WENT TO MY LOCAL DEALER AND HE SAID THAT IN THE LAST YEAR HE HAS SOLD OVER 100 EGR VALVES FOR THIS VEHICLE AND THAT THEY HAVE NOT RECALLED THEM. I NEED TO KNOW WHY THEY HAVE NOT RECALLED THIS DO TO IT BEING AN ONGOING PROBLEM CAUSING EXTREMELY BAD GAS USE. *JB

I AM EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED WITH ISUZU FOR BUILDING AND THEN SELLING THIS OBVIOUS LEMON AS A VEHICLE TO THE PUBLIC. HOW CAN PEOPLE FEEL CONFIDENT ABOUT SPENDING THAT MUCH MONEY ON A VEHICLE WHEN IT IS GOING TO FALL APART IN THAT SHORT OF TIME. I REALLY THINK THAT SO MUCH GOING WRONG IN ONE VEHICLE THAT THERE IS A MANUFACTURING PROBLEM AND THAT THE COMPANY NEEDS TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT AND THE DEALER SHOULD HAVE NEVER PUT IT BACK OUT ON THE LOT TO BE SOLD AGAIN. YES IT WAS BOUGHT USED BUT EVERYONE OF THE CAR DEALERS WE TRIED TO TRADE IT OFF TO ALREADY NEW ABOUT THE PAST HISTORY OF THE CAR, SO WAS THE CONSUMER NOT INFORMED BECAUSE THEY JUST SELL CARS AND DON'T CARE ABOUT THE CONSUMER. *AK

THERE HAVE BEEN 4 INCIDENTS. THE FIRST TIME THE HEATOR CORE WENT OUT AND ANTIFREEZE POURED INTO THE PASSENGER SIDE FLOOR. I HAD TWO INCHS OF ANTIFREEZE ON THE FLOOR AND IF I HAD A PASSENGER THEY WOULD HAVE BEEN BURNED BY THE HOT ANTIFREEZE. THE SECOND TIME THE HEATER CORE WENT OUT THE SAME THING HAPPENED. THE 3RD TIME IT WAS THE RADIATOR SUPPOSEDLY CAUSED BY STRESS FROM THE HEATOR CORE AND THE 4TH TIME IT WAS THE RADIATOR WITH A HOLE ON THE BACKSIDE. I FEEL THE CONTINOUSLY BREAKDOWN HAS CAUSED UNDUE STRESS ON THE VEHICLE AND IS SUBJECT TO A MAJOR ENGINE BREAKDOWN AT ANY TIME.

Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers.
