Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

Safety recallsA safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Whether a specific vehicle is covered depends on its VIN — a recall listed for a model year does not necessarily apply to every vehicle of that year.

InvestigationsNHTSA opens an investigation to examine whether a safety defect may exist. An open investigation is not a determination that a defect exists, and many investigations close without a recall. Investigations can, however, lead to one.
0
Crash or fire reportedComplaints whose submitter recorded that a crash or a fire occurred. These are the reporter's own answers on the NHTSA form, not verified findings.

The defect: JAYCO IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2011 PINNACLE FIFTH WHEEL TRAILERS EQUIPPED WITH DEXTER AXLES. ON SOME AXLES, CRACKS COULD APPEAR IN THE SPINDLE WELD.
The risk: THESE CRACKS CAN PROPAGATE AND CAUSE THE SPINDLE TO DETACH FROM THE AXLE TUBE, RESULTING IN THE SEPARATION OF THE WHEEL END FROM THE VEHICLE, CREATING A ROAD HAZARD THAT INCREASES THE RISK OF A CRASH TO OTHER VEHICLES, AND COMPROMISES THE DRIVER'S CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE INCREASING THE RISK OF A VEHICLE CRASH.
The remedy: JAYCO IS WORKING WITH DEXTER AXLE AND WILL INSPECT THE AXLE SERIAL NUMBER AND REPLACE IT IF IT FALLS WITHIN THE SERIAL NUMBER RANGE. REPLACEMENT OF THE AXLE WILL BE PERFORMED FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON OCTOBER 18, 2010. OWNERS MAY CONTACT JAYCO AT 1-800-283-8267 AND DEXTER AXLE AT 1-800-2164.

KEPT SMELLING HOT WIRES AND BURNING PLASTIC SMELL. SERVICE TECH WAS ALREADY IN CAMPGROUND SO WE CALLED THEM OVER TO INVESTIGATE AND THEY DISCOVERED THE IOTA MODEL ITS-50R AUTOMATIC TRANSFER SWITCH HAD BURNT WIRES. OUR UNIT IS PREPPED FOR A GENERATOR BUT WE DO NOT HAVE ONE INSTALLED SO WE QUESTION HOW/WHY THIS TRANSFER SWITCH SHOULD GO BAD SINCE IT'S NOT USED. REPEATED EMAILS TO JAYCO ARE NOT OFFERING MUCH INFORMATION. WE SAW WHERE OTHER TRANSFER SWITCHES HAD BEEN RECALLED AND WONDERED IF OUR SWITCH WAS ONE OF THOSE BUT WE COULD NOT FIND RECALL NOTICE. ARE THERE ISSUES WITH THIS MODEL ALSO? THEY KEEP ASKING IF A POWER SURGE CREATED THE ISSUE. THE CAMPER IS HOOKED UP TO A 50A SURGE PROTECTOR AT OUR SEASONAL CAMPSITE SO THIS SHOULDN'T BE AN ISSUE. AND, IT'S NOT A SINGLE WIRE THAT IS BURNT BUT SEVERAL WHICH IS A MAJOR MALFUNCTION. I'M UPLOADING A PDF OF THE EMAIL CONVERSATION WITH JAYCO,
