2006 Jeep Commander Problems

My jeep will shut off unexpectedly, it will do a up and down idle increase and decrease while at a idle the abs will lock up my wheel tight to where itll drag while trying to move forward. The 4x4 low will not engage at all says service 4x4

Radiator coolant system failed and caused the engine to overheat and loss of power while traveling on an interstate highway. Pulled over to side of highway. The vehicle was towed to a private mechanic shop. The shop evaluated the engine could not start as it had seized from overheating. It was determined that the radiator plastic end caps suddenly failed causing the engine to overheat and seize. The radiator temperature is very high and the plastic and aluminum materials expand and contract at different rates therefore weakening the connection between the two materials until the part fails. This is a bad design, application, and mix of materials in a part that does follow the basic principles of thermodynamics.

TAKATA RECALL AS I WAS DRIVING MY CAR ON THE FOUR LANE MY CAR STARTED TO HAVE WHITE RUBBER SMELLING SMOKE FILL THE CAR AND ALL MY DASH LIGHTS WENT CRAZY, MY RADIO KICKED OFF AND MY SPEAKERS AND MY TURN SIGNALS QUIT WORKING. I STARTED TO PANIC AND STOPPED ON THE SIDE OF THE RODE. I HAD MY KIDS IN THE CAR SO I FIRST REMOVED MY CHILDREN THEN TRIED TO FIND THE PROBLEM. AT THIS POINT MY CAR WAS COMPLETELY FULL OF SMOKE N IT LIKE AS IF IT WAS BURNING DOWN. MY WIRING IN THE CARS PASSENGER SIDE REAR FLOOR BOARD HAD CAUGHT ON FIRE ! THE FIRE BURNT THROUGH MY FLOOR AND MY FLOOR MATS. I ALMOST CHOKED TO DEATH ON THE SMOKE AND HAD TO TAKE THE BATTERY OUT OF THE CAR TO KILL THE POWER AND DUMP WATER ON THE FLOOR.

THIS HAS BEEN THE 3RD TIME THIS TYPE OF EVENT HAPPENS, THE FIRST TIME WAS AT A CITY STREET DRIVING STRAIGHT FORWARD AT 30-35MPH AND THE ENGINE STARTED STALLING, TRUCK COMPLETELY WENT OFF, HEAD LIGHTS WOULD GO ON AND OFF, ALONG WITH MY INTERIOR DASHBOARD INDICATORS AND MEDIA CENTER. SECOND TIME, SAME THING, AND THE THIRD TIME WHILE DRIVING AT ABOUT 35-40MPH IN A CITY STREET AND GRADUALLY SLOWING DOWN TO 10-15MPH TO MAKE A LEFT THE TRUCK COMPLETELY WENT OFF, HEAD LIGHTS WOULD GO ON AND OFF, ALONG WITH MY INTERIOR DASHBOARD INDICATORS AND MEDIA CENTER. IT SEEM LIKE I HAD TURNED OFF THE ENGINE COMPLETELY FOR LIKE A SPLIT SECOND. I THOUGH IT MIGHT'VE BEEN THAT I HIT THE KEY WITH MY KNEE, BUT I PULLED OVER RESTARTED THE ENGINE AFTER 15 MIN, AND THE PROBLEM CONTINUED. ALL THE LIGHTS WOULD GO ON AND OFF AND THE ENGINE POWER WOULD SHUT DOWN, WHEN PUTTING THE GEARS, IT WOULD SOUND VERY FORCING. I TURNED IT OFF AGAIN AND WAITED 30 MIN, RESTARTED THE TRUCK AGAIN IT DID THE PROBLEM FOR A FEW SECONDS AND THEN IT WAS LIKE NOTHING EVER HAPPENED.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT SEVERAL YEARS AGO, THE ALTERNATOR WAS REPLACED HOWEVER, THE REPLACEMENT OF THE ALTERNATOR FAILED TO ELIMINATE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 126,000.

Brakes failed completely. 2-3 car lengths between be and car in front of me with plenty of time to stop. My jeep did not even slow down when brakes we applied.

MY VEHICLE DIED IN THE MIDDLE OF ME DRIVING WITHOUT WARNING. I WAS ON A MAIN ROAD TURNING INTO A MCDONALD'S WHEN MY CAR DIED. I WAS GOING ABOUT 20 WHEN MY CAR DIED. Side curtain air bags didn’t deploy during rollover

The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Commander. The contact stated while driving at 55-65 MPH, several unknown warning lights were illuminated and the vehicle lost electrical power temporarily. The contact stated that he veered to the side of the road and inspected the vehicle but could not determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who informed the contact that the failure could not be replicated. The contact stated that the failure had been reoccurring increasingly and the vehicle would stall while driving. Additionally, the contact stated that upon starting the vehicle, the vehicle would go into limp mode and would not shift out of third gear. The check engine warning light was illuminated. ALSO NEED IS READING CODE THAT SUDDENLY MY KEY ISN'T REGISTERED SINCE THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING AND MY AUTO START WON'T WORK BECAUSE OF THE KEY NOT BEING LINKED TO MY CAR ANYMORE. There are 2 issues I am reporting. 1.) The passenger front seat belt tensioner does not allow you to buckle the seat belt. 2.) The vehicle will go into limp mode and shift into 3 gear. I disconnect the battery and wait about 15 seconds and the problem is magically resolved.

The fuel tank skid plate is rotting away, this could cause the tank tank to fall out of the vehicle, this looks like a very common problem with a number of jeeps and dodge products.

THE PROBLEM STARTED IN JANUARY 2019. THE VEHICLE STARTED HAVING IDLING ISSUES, COLD START IN MORNING IDLES AROUND 900, WHEN PUT IN REVERSE IT DIPS TO AROUND 500 AND WOBBLES BACK AND FORTH WHILE BACKING UP, PUT IN DRIVE AND IT WOULD BE OK BUT WOULD STALL SOMETIMES AT STOP SIGN- CHECK ENGINE LIGHT NEVER CAME ON. I HAD THROTTLE BODY CLEANED AND FUEL SYSTEM SERVICE DONE AND THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON SAME DAY. TOOK IT TO THE DEALER FOR RECALLS AND THEY REPLACED THROTTLE BODY ALSO. IT DROVE OK FOR A DAY AND I HAVE THE UNSTABLE IDLE BACK AND THE RPM JUMPS UP WHILE IN DRIVE BUT STOPPED AT A LIGHT. ABOUT A WEEK AGO I AM SLOWING DOWN TO STOP AT A LIGHT AHEAD AND IT STARTS VIBRATING LIKE IT IS GOING TO STALL AND THE ETC AND TCS LIGHT CAME ON AND I SHUT IT OFF AND IT CRANKED RIGHT BACK UP AND DROVE IT THE REST OF THE DAY WITH NO ISSUE. ETC LIGHT WILL COME ON WHILE DRIVING AND CAUSE NO ISSUES OTHER THAN THE UNSTABLE IDLE. TODAY-5-10-19, COMING HOME AND START TO TURN LEFT AND ETC AND TCS LIGHT COME ON AND IT SEEMS LIKE IT IS IN LIMP MODE BECAUSE THERE IS A LOSS OF POWER AND ETC LIGHT IS NOW BLINKING, SO I PULL IN A PARKING LOT, CUT IT OFF FOR FIVE MINUTES AND IT CRANKS RIGHT BACK UP WITH NO LIGHTS ON AND I AM ABLE TO DRIVE 5 MILES HOME.

MY FAMILY AND I WERE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AT 75 MPH AND WITHOUT ANY WARNING, THE ENGINE DIED. WHEN THE ENGINE DIED, THE ENGINE INDICATOR LIGHT CAME ON. POWER STEERING AND BRAKING WERE FINE AT FIRST. I STEERED THE CAR TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. BEFORE COMING TO A STOP, THE POWER STEERING STOPPED WORKING. ONCE ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, I TURNED THE IGNITION OFF AND THEN TRIED TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. THE CAR RE-STARTED IMMEDIATELY, HOWEVER, THE ENGINE LIGHT REMAINED ON. I HAVE TAKEN THE CAR INTO THE SHOP AND THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO FIND ANY PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLE. ...UPDATED 09/22/15 *BF ABOUT ONE WEEK PRIOR TO THE ABOVE EVENT, I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM THE TRAIN STATION ON A PERFECTLY DRY AND CLEAR DAY AND WHEN I WAS DRIVING, THE VARIOUS TRACTION CONTROL LIGHTS CAME ON AND THE CAR WOULD PERIODICALLY BUCK WHILE THE RPM'S WOULD REV HIGHER FOR A MOMENT. AFTER ARRIVING HOME, I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND PARKED IT IN THE GARAGE. THE NEST DAY WHEN I STARTED IT, THE TRACTION LIGHTS WERE OFF AND THE CAR APPEARED TO DRIVE NORMALLY. THE LIGHTS THAT WERE ON WERE THE ESP, BAS, AND THE PICTURE OF THE CAR SLIDING. WHEN I TOOK THE CAR IN FOR REPAIR, THE DEALER COULDN'T FIND ANY ISSUE WITH THE TRACTION SYSTEM. AFTER A FEW MINUTES CAR WILL SHUT OFF. IM AT A STOP SIGN IT SHUTS OFF, I AM YIELDING TO ONCOMING TRAFFIC IT SHUTS OFF. THE VEHICLE REVS UP IN PARK.

Power Train. The (TCM/PCM/TECM) Chrysler is recalling 24, 461 Jeep Commander vehicles equipped with 407 V8 engines. Th powertrain control module (PCM) was programmed with software that may allow the engine to stall under certain operating conditions. This could cause a crash without warning. ( My Jeep turns on, but it is not able to be moved, it is stalled indefinitely). I asked the dealer @Rockwall Dodge, Rockwall TX to check the PCM/TCM/TECM. They refused. Said they were not able to check this situation. Didn't have that equipment. Electrical System. This defect can affect the safe operation of the airbag system. The air bag lights comes on randomly. The engine will turn off, which will then depower various key safety systems. I am unable to unlock the ignition on several occasions. Suspension. Rock Krawler recalled 44 performance suspension systems sold as aftermarket equipment for use on the vehicle listed above. We have had suspension issues on our Jeep. No one can find the issue to fix it. The Jeep makes noise at the suspension system.

I had gotten my sepertine belt replaced and it started showing message transmission over heating it had not aloud my jeep to start and it made the starter go out to the alternator is now bad I have had it stall before I got the message and it about caused an accident several times until message. Brakes had skidded me about into a tree & other things and people when I had pressed on them two handful of times, it's Like that were be slammed or something.

PURCHASED 4 NEW TIRES ON 12/29/2010, MILEAGE WAS 41015. NOW MILEAGE IS NOW 77061, TIRE TREAD IS AT .3/32. TIRES HAVE BEEN ROTATED EVERY 5 - 6 K AND ALIGNMENTS PERFORMED. ALL TIRES ARE WEARING UNEVENLY, THERE ARE SIGNS OF CRACKING AND STOPPING IN THE SNOW IS NOW A MAJOR HAZARD. THE WARRANTY IS FOR 60K AND WITH ONLY 35K THEY ARE READY FOR THE TRASH. *TR

THE AIR CONDITIONING LINES WERE LOCATED AT THE REAR WHEEL AND ACCUMULATED SALT, THUS CAUSING THE AIR CONDITIONER LINES TO CORRODE AND LEAK. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE BUT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 93,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 106,000.
