2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee L Driver assistance Problems

Forward Collision Warning has been disabled since a forced OTA software update in August of 2024. Jeep has issued a STAR report to their dealers (S248A000013). Jeep acknowledges it is an issue, but fails to cover the remedy. Dealer wants $200+ to diagnose plus the cost of the software refresh. The system forces you to take the software update, removes a key safety feature, and then Jeep wants you to pay to restore it. The initial safety issue began with the rear-view camera going blank and the Uconnect 5 screen freezing while the vehicle was operating in reverse. My vehicle's service record indicates that Safety Recall 24V-436 / FCA Campaign 79B was marked as "Completed" in the FCA system on June 19, 2024—even though the official recall was not initiated until around June 25, 2024, and no physical software update was performed at that time. To resolve the recall, I took my 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee L to Performance Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram in Delaware, Ohio, where technicians updated the software to version FCA-MY24.U33.43-PROD. Immediately following this dealer update, several core vehicle and safety functions failed: Forward Collision Warning (FCW): The FCW system automatically turned off, and the option to re-enable it completely disappeared from the vehicle settings menu. Vehicle Safety & Operational Controls: Automatic speed-sensitive door locking and paddle shifter functionality were completely disabled. I returned the vehicle to the dealer, where technicians reflashed the software to restore the user configuration options and re-enable FCW. However, the Uconnect system remains dangerously buggy: Active Safety Alerts: The amber FCW OFF light illuminates continuously and gets stuck on. While ADAS features appear partially operational, the constant amber warning obscures real-time system failure notifications. Backup Camera & System Latency: The Uconnect system routinely freezes, introducing a dangerous delay in the rear-view camera feed during reversing maneuvers. System Instability: The Uconnect software randomly resets to the Italian language, resets rear-camera display settings, disables automatic door locking, disables paddle shifters, and causes seat auto-adjustment malfunctions. Stellantis has since issued TSB 08-221-26 (Software Version U41.10), which explicitly acknowledges that these exact software bugs—including the persistent FCW OFF light, screen freezes,

This model of Jeep has a documented history of having software problems that occur resulting in huge safety issues. I am filing this report because Jeep has not successfully solved this issue leading to regular ongoing safety concerns. Jeep themselves have issued several STAR reports on this, and a simple internet search will show thousands upon thousands of posts of owners with recurring issues. The specific safety concerns regarding seat positioning while moving, language change of instrumentation and critical alarms, metric changes to critical items like speed, and failure of front collision sensors. The issue begins with the driver seat changing its position while driving. While driving the seat will suddenly recline almost to a lay down position which is a safety risk. After some time fighting this, the car will eventually have a computer issue where the language changes to Italian, and cause the front collision sensors to be disabled. There is actually no issue with the sensors, it’s a software glitch that causes the sensors to be deactivated. In order to fix the issue, the car has to be taken to the dealership for several software updates and reconfiguration, resulting in cost to owners. Extended warranties do not cover software. The issue will then recur, sometimes within as little as a week, others after a few months. Researching forums, it appears this may be related to some OTA software update, but that hasn’t been confirmed as far as I can tell. This is a safety concern. Seats should not adjust on their own without driver controls being accessed, and collision sensors shouldn’t deactivate because of a software glitch.

Randomly, and without warning, the instruments, gauges, and displays will switch into a language I do not speak or understand (Italian). Coinciding with the switch to Italian language, cluster and radio display settings revert back to default settings, auto door locks and paddle shifter becomes inoperative (with no menu to enable), pedestrian emergency brake (peb) lamp or forward collision warning (fcw) lamp turns on with no way to disable, units of measurement including speed, temperature, etc. all change, and many other random settings change as well. ***This is clearly a dangerous situation because of all the functions and gauges that change, and the fact it is difficult if not impossible to recover from this due to the language of the setting menus, and the complexity of discovering and navigating through all these changes. I have taken it to the dealer twice, and they say there is nothing they can do and to wait for a possible software update, but none has come and it has been over a year. When this happens, even if one is able to wade through all the settings menus and change setting back, some items cannot be reset (like the FCA off lamp). According to various Jeep owner forums, some dealers have been able to reset something and temporarily correct the issue, but they charge for this service, and the issue returns randomly again. There was a previous recall for camera system that was fixed using a OTA over the air update per JEEP. This update introduced new problems It disabled the forward collision detection and disabled paddle shifting and other safety features which should also be issued as a RECALL because the dealer is not reputable to this on their own. The fix that they did requires customer to come in and have more work done at their expense and they pretend they didn't cause it but clearly this is a major problem across their whole line of Cars.

My 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee L experienced a sudden, simultaneous failure of multiple electrical, safety, and driver-assistance systems. Without warning, the instrument cluster illuminated a yellow warning light indicating that the Forward Collision Warning (FCW) system was disabled and unavailable. Concurrently, the steering wheel paddle shifters completely stopped functioning, and the vehicle randomly reset its primary language setting to Italian reverted its system units to Metric and Celsius. Furthermore, critical user customization options in the Uconnect 5 infotainment system—specifically the auto-folding side mirrors option, automatic door locking preferences, and passenger seat controls—completely disappeared from the settings menus.

There is a continual problem with this car. Randomly, about every 1-2 weeks, my entire infotainment center, customer settings, and seat preferences will reset to Italian and the metric system. When this happens, the front collision warning system turns off. The radio screen also begins to flash on and off, where I cannot use the backup camera and audio cuts out. I have had it to my local Jeep dealership about 6 times now, and they are able to reset the system but the problem comes back. I had it there earlier in the week and the technician told me that there is no permanent fix, and that I will be coming back routinely because I am not the only one with this issue.

Re: 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee L Summit AWD, Vin [XXX] A Known COMMON Jeep Uconnect problem identified by Jeep Case No. XXX Rev.B, Feb. 2023. Problem: with the UConnect 5 system, that on an update the language became Italian ( I wa able to change back to English) and many user controllable functions become inoperative, ie. which I cannot change the settings unless the Dealer reflashes the UConnect's User Controllabe interface. What is very concerning is the loss of Automatic Emergency Breaking (AEB), it is permanently turned "OFF" in yellow, meaning there is no fault with the AEB. I believe the loss of a major Safety System (AEB) is cause to Warrant a Safety Recall. Jeep Customer Care said I will have to pay for the reflash because I am no longer under warranty. This Case XXX Rev. B was identified when my 2022 Jeep Grand Cherrokee L was under warranty. Please Help by making this a RECALL. Forward collision warning system not working. Light on dashboard says system disabled. Paddle shifters also disabled. Temperature readings in metrics and language keeps changing. This is available for inspection if needed. We bought this car because of the collision warning and braking system safety features and none of them work. This puts our safety at risk. The dealer has updated the system but unfortunately it was only a temporary fix. The jeep dealer confirmed the issue and states there is no permanent fix for the issues. It first appeared in July and has been ongoing.

In November 2024, Jeep applied an over-the-air software update to my Jeep Grand Cherokee L without my request. Immediately after the update, the forward collision warning system malfunctioned and warning indicators appeared. At the same time, multiple electronic body control and safety-related functions changed or stopped working, including the automatic door locks and several vehicle settings resetting (language, units, and driver-assist preferences). The affected systems are electronic safety and body control components and are available for inspection. The malfunction of the forward collision warning system puts vehicle occupants and others at risk because the vehicle may fail to provide collision alerts intended to help prevent or reduce the severity of a crash. There was no crash, damage, or hardware failure before or after the update. The vehicle operated normally prior to the software update. These problems have continued without interruption for more than 13 months and have not corrected themselves. The issue has not been confirmed by a dealer because Jeep Customer Care has required a paid dealership diagnosis before escalating or correcting a problem caused by its own software update. The vehicle has not been inspected by the manufacturer or any third party. Warning lights and messages related to the forward collision warning system first appeared immediately following the November 2024 update. Jeep/Stellantis has acknowledged similar over-the-air software-related issues in internal technical documentation (STAR Publication Case Number S2108000249, Revision C). This is a safety-related software defect affecting forward collision warning and driver-assist systems.

When powered up, the car's entertainment/control system switched to Italian and metric units. In addition, the Forward Collision Warning indicator lights up as disabled even though it's configured on. Unknown whether it's really on or off but if it's off, then this safety feature has become unavailable. This happened in April of this year and I had to take it to the dealership to get it reset for $250. The exact same thing has happened again--the unit has become unconfigured in Italian and metric mode and the forward collission warning disabled is again present.

On multiple occasions, vehicle screen just go blank, backup camera won’t work, do locks do not work, and forward collision detection not working for a year now after last forced over the air update for Uconnect system. Car has been to dealer multiple times and still no fix for it. Also 4wd system not working properly and vehicle pulls to side even tho alignment is set to factory specs. Also the driver seat module melted and dealer can’t figure out why and wasn’t covered under any type of warrenty

There is an issue with the sensors. While driving for no reason it will break. It’s done it multiple times. While turning left. The sensors have stopped me in front of oncoming traffic. And won’t allow me to proceed forward. There is also an issue while trying to back out of parking spots. There will be nothing behind me. But it will break and not allow me to leave. This is very concerning. I am afraid to drive my vehicle. I’ve taken it into the dealership and they weren’t able to fix it.

The last forced OTA update we received on the vehicle has been a complete disaster. The build number is [XXX]. It has lit the FCW off light on the dash despite it being selected as on in the settings. It has also disabled the paddle shifters, randomly turns the language on our display to Italian, randomly locks up the UConnect system into an Android Command prompt and causes numerous issues with the radio. The update has also caused the driver's lumbar support to randomly inflate while driving the car. I've searched on many Jeep forums and this appears to be a common issue. My dealer says there is no "recall" yet from Jeep and wants to charge hundreds of dollars to reflash the software. All reports I have found online show that reflashing the software has not worked for others. There are over a half a dozen features, including safety features that simply aren’t working: pedestrian avoidance, automatic braking, paddle shifters, high beam headlights, memory seats moving while driving, system and screens freezing or going blank while driving, Italian randomly being selected as the language, and the units of measure being switched to metric randomly among other things. I've paid the dealership $300 for a software update a year ago and now the same exact issue has happened again.
