The defect: JET IS RECALLING 11 MY 2009 GRAIN TRAILERS EQUIPPED WITH ARVINMERITOR WHEEL END STUDS. THE WHEEL END STUDS WERE IMPROPERLY TEMPERED, POTENTIALLY RENDERING THEM BRITTLE AND SUSCEPTIBLE TO FRACTURE. IF ONE WHEEL STUB FRACTURES, THE REMAINING WHEEL STUDS ARE REQUIRED TO CARRY MORE LOAD.
The risk: IF ONE OF THE WHEEL STUDS BROKE AND WAS LEFT IN THIS CONDITION, THE REMAINING WHEEL STUDS MAY ALSO FRACTURE INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.
The remedy: JET IS WORKING WITH ARVINMERITOR WHO WILL INSPECT AND REPLACE THE SUSPECTED STUDS FREE OF CHARGE(PLEASE SEE 08E038). THE RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN DURING AUGUST 2008. OWNERS MAY CONTACT JET AT 1-515-332-3117 OR ARVINMERITOR AT 1-866-668-7221.

Safety recall
A safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Safety investigation
NHTSA opens an investigation to examine whether a safety defect may exist. An open investigation is not a determination that a defect exists, and many investigations close without a recall. Investigations can, however, lead to one.
Manufacturer communication
Manufacturers file copies of the bulletins they send to dealers with NHTSA. These often describe diagnostic or repair procedures for a known condition. They are not recalls: repairs described in a bulletin are usually only free if the vehicle is still under warranty or the manufacturer has extended coverage.
