PURCHASED IN APRIL, 2009 AND INSTALLED SET OF AVON STORM MOTORCYCLE TIRES. THE REAR TIRE, SIZE 180/55ZR17 (DOT AT8E IC 3208) LESS THAN 3000 MILES AND ABOUT 6 MONTHS SINCE INSTALL BEGAN LOSING AIR. THIS WAS A SLOW LEAK THAT LOST AIR FASTER AS PRESSURE DROPPED. INVESTIGATION FOUND THAT BEAD AREA WAS LEAKING, CAUSED BY CORROSION AT FAIRLY EVEN INTERVALS AROUND THE BEAD AREA, ALONG WITH A GOUGE INTO THE RIM AT THE SAME SPACING AS THE CORROSION. THERE APPEARS TO BE A SHARP STEEL WIRE JUST AT THE SURFACE OF THE BEAD WHERE IT MATES TO THE RIM. TIRE WAS INSTALLED USING MURPHY'S TIRE LUBE, AND IS USED ON ALL MY TIRE CHANGES WITHOUT PROBLEM. THE CORROSION SEEMS TO BE COMING FROM THE TIRE BEAD. IT CREATES AN UNSAFE CONDITION THAT COULD CAUSE TIRE PRESSURE FAILURE, POSSIBLY A LOSS OF CONTROL AND SUBSEQUENT CRASH WITH POSSIBILITY OF INJURY OR DEATH. I AM TAKING THE TIRE TO THE DISTRIBUTOR FOR EXCHANGE. I DO NOT KNOW IF THE TIRE WOULD BE AVAILABLE FROM THEM, THEY WOULD HAVE TO KEEP IT FOR EXCHANGE. *TR
