The defect: ON CERTAIN FIFTH WHEEL TRAILERS, THERE IS A 12 VOLT LIGHT IN THE BUNK BED AREA. THIS LIGHT CAN COME INTO CONTACT WITH THE BUNK MATTRESS WHEN THE BUNK IS IN THE CLOSED POSITION.
The risk: IF THE LIGHT IS LEFT ON WHEN THE BUNK IS IN THE CLOSED POSITION, IT CAN SCORCH THE MATTRESS OR RESULT IN A FIRE.
The remedy: DEALERS WILL REMOVE THE EXISTING LIGHT FROM THE WALL AND ATTACH A NEW RECHARGEABLE FLASHLIGHT IN ITS PLACE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON APRIL 3, 2006. OWNERS MAY CONTACT KEYSTONE RV AT 1-866-425-4369.

The defect: ON CERTAIN TRAVEL TRAILERS AND FIFTH WHEEL RECREATIONAL VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH TREDIT 16" CHROME WHEELS, THE RIMS MAY HAVE POOR WELD QUALITY AND INSUFFICIENT PRESS FIT BETWEEN THE WHEEL RIM AND DISC.
The risk: THE CENTER OF THE WHEEL COULD SEPARATE FROM THE RIM. THE WHEEL MAY WOBBLE AND CAUSE A VIBRATION OR THE MOUNTED TIRE COULD LOSE AIR CAUSING THE TIRE TO GO FLAT, RESULTING IN A LOSS OF CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.
The remedy: KEYSTONE IS WORKING WITH TREDIT TIRE TO NOTIFY OWNERS AND HAVE THE WHEELS REPLACED. THE RECALL BEGAN ON FEBRUARY 15, 2006. OWNERS MAY CONTACT KEYSTONE AT 866-425-4369.

IN RESPONSE TO THE PRODUCT FAILURES THAT PROMPTED ODI TO INITIATE INVESTIGATION PE05-022, KEYSTONE RV HAS FILED TWO DEFECT NOTICES (1) 05V-201 ON MAY 5, 2005 TO ADDRESS 174 MODEL YEAR 2006 CAMBRIDGE VEHICLES AND (2) 05V-424 ON SEPTEMBER 22, 2005 TO ADDRESS 834 MODEL YEAR 2005 AND 2006 MOUNTAINEER, COUGAR, SPRINTER, AND TAIL-GATOR MODEL VEHICLES.BOTH CAMPAIGNS PROPOSE TO REPLACE CERTAIN 16 CHROME PLATED STEEL WHEELS THAT WERE INSTALLED AS ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT IN THESE VEHICLES.TREDIT TIRE, KEYSTONE RV'S SUPPLIER OF TIRE AND WHEEL ASSEMBLIES, HAD INVESTIGATED THE REASONS FOR THE CRACKED AND BROKEN WHEELS, DETERMINED THE CAUSES, AND NOTIFIED KEYSTONE AND ODI (05E-051) OF THEIR FINDINGS IN AUGUST-SEPTEMBER, 2005.KEYSTONE RV HAS REPORTED FIVE INCIDENTS OF WHEEL CRACKS IN 2004 AND 2005 MODEL YEAR MONTANA BIG SKY FIFTH WHEEL VEHICLES. THESE REPORTS INDICATE THAT CERTAIN VEHICLES MANUFACTURED PRIOR TO MARCH 2005 MAY ALSO BE EXPERIENCING CRACKED, BROKEN, OR LEAKING WHEELS.ACCORDINGLY, ODI WILL EVALUATE WHETHER ADDITIONAL ACTIONS APPEAR TO BE WARRANTED FOR WHEELS INSTALLED IN KEYSTONE RV VEHICLES MANUFACTURED PRIOR TO MARCH 2005 AND NOT ADDRESSED BY CAMPAIGN O5V-201 OR 05V-424.

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 KEYSTONE MOUNTAINEER. THE VEHICLE HAS MISSION TIRES (NA). THE INSIDES OF BOTH REAR TIRES WERE COMPLETELY WORN. THE VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY AT THE DEALER, BUT THEY ARE UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF FAILURE. THE CONTACT BELIEVED THAT THE FAILURE WAS DUE TO THE AXLE BECAUSE HE NOTICED GREASE LEAKING FROM THE LUG NUTS. THE TIRE SIZE AND DOT NUMBER WERE UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 10,000. NO OTHER VEHICLE INFORMATION WAS AVAILABLE.
