What this page shows
Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 2006 Kia Sedona, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.
Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

THE BACK FRAME OF MY 2006 KIA SEDONA IS ALL CORRODED. CANNOT DRIVE THE CAR ANY MORE. I BOUGHT THE CAR IN NOV-2006 AND IN DECEMBER 2011 I HAD TO CHANGE THE FRONT FRAME DUE TO CORROSION. IN MARCH 2014, I HAD TO CHANGE THE FRONT SUSPENSION DUE TO CORROSION AND NOW THE BACK FRAME IS ALL CORRODED. I WOULD LIKE THAT SOMEONE REALLY CHECK ON KIIA'S MATERIALS. IS INCREDIBLY THAT AFTER 5 YEARS I HAD TO CHANGE THE FRONT FRAME. AND UP TODAY'S DAY. I HAVE THE SAME CORROSION ISSUE. I LEAVE IN NEW JERSEY AND I KNOW THAT IN THE WINTER, THERE IS LOTS OF SALT ON THE STREETS BUT I HAVE NEVER SEEN A PROBLEM LIKE THIS ON ANY OTHER BRAND. THIS ISSUE GOES DIRECTLY TO THE SAFETY OF THE CAR.
THE CLEAR COAT IS PEALING FROM THE HOOD AND REAR OF VEHICLE. I HAVE SEEN THIS ON MANY OF THESE GOLD COLORED KIA SEDONA'S INCLUDING MINE THUS I THOUGHT I SHOULD REPORT.

THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED WITH A NEW RACK & PINION HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE TECHNICIAN INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE RACK AND PINION. THE TECHNICIAN INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT A KIA DEALER RACK & PINION WAS TESTED AND FAILED, AND WAS UNABLE TO CORRECT THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT SIX MONTHS AGO, WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED, THE RACK AND PINION WAS REPLACED. NEITHER THE DEALER NOR THE MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 112,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
POWER STEERING PUMP HAS HAD TO BE REPLACED 4 TIMES IN PAST 4 YEARS. NEEDS REPLACEMENT ABOUT EVERY YEAR BIT LAST 2 WERE 6 MINTHS APART. SOMETHING IS CAUSING FRICTION AND RUINING PUMPS. MAKES FLUID INSTANTLY POUR OUT AND CAR IS UNCONTROLLABLE. SO DANGEROUS

VAN HAS JUST OVER 115XXX MILES ON IT. HAVE NOTICED THAT TRANSMISSION HAS A WHIP OR SLIP FEEL WHEN YOU TAKE FOOT OFF GAS PEDAL AND THEN REAPPLY FOOT TO GAS PEDAL. TOOK TO MY MECHANIC AND HE STATED THAT TRANSMISSION IS SHOWING WEAR. WANTED TO REPORT DUE TO POTENTIAL RECALL IN THE FUTURE.

THE FAILURE OCCURRED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE VEHICLE'S INSERTS WERE FRACTURED AND THE CONTROL ARM NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CABIN FILTER WAS REPLACED, BUT THE FUEL ODOR WAS STILL PRESENT. THIS HAPPENED TWICE. AS I ATTEMPTED TO PULL OUT OF A PARKING SPACE, MY CAR WOULD ONLY GO 5MPH. I HAD NO GAS FEED. IT WAS DIAGNOSED AS THE THROTTLE BODY AND WAS FIXED UNDER WARRANTY THE FIRST TIME. I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALER AT THE TIME THAT THIS WAS A PROBLEM FOR MY VEHICLE. IN FACT, HE WAS HELPING ANOTHER OWNER WITH THE VERY SAME PROBLEM WHEN I CAME IN. THE SECOND TIME WAS DEC 2013. THE SAME THING HAPPENED. THIS TIME IT WAS OUT OF WARRANTY (87,000 M) AND I HAD IT CLEANED AT MY EXPENSE. IT HAS WORKED SINCE THEN. I AM NOW AT 97,000M. I AM EXPECTING IT WILL HAPPEN AGAIN SOMEDAY. *JS

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 KIA SEDONA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER PLACING HER VEHICLE IN PARK, SHE WOULD HAD TO TAKE A SCREW DRIVER IN ORDER TO MOVE THE GEAR SHIFTER. PROBLEM #1. AT APPROXIMATELY 111,000 MILES MY SEDONA'S AIRBAG LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON MY DASH PANEL...AND HAS STAYED ILLUMINATED EVER SINCE. THERE WAS NO ACCIDENT OR INCIDENT TO PROVOKE THIS LIGHT TO ILLUMINATE. KIA OF DARTMOUTH (MA) SAID IT'S A DRIVERS SIDE SEATBELT SENSOR THAT IS "BAD". COST TO REPAIR $274.80! WHY IS A "BAD" SENSOR NOT THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE MANUFACTURER? IT'S FAULTY. THERE WAS NO MISUSE OR ABUSE BY THE CONSUMER, IN OTHER WORDS, WHY IS THERE NO RECALL ON THIS ITEM? PROBLEM #2. AT APPROXIMATELY 108,000 MY SEDONA'S TPMS LIGHT AND ( ! ) LIGHTS ILLUMINATED ON MY DASH PANEL...AND HAVE STAYED ILLUMINATED SINCE. THE TIRES ARE INFLATED TO MANUFACTURE'S SPECIFICATIONS SO THERE IS NO CHANCE THAT THE TIRES ARE UNDER OR OVER INFLATED. AGAIN, THERE IS A "BAD" SENSOR(S). WHY ISN'T THERE A RECALL ON THESE FAULTY SENSORS?
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 KIA SEDONA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SEATBELT WARNING LAMP FLASHED AND REMAINED ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INSPECTED AND DIAGNOSED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 98,000.

Reports naming tires, wheels, hubs, or the tire-pressure monitoring system.
From owner reports, verbatim
I CURRENTLY HAVE A 2006 KIA SEDONA THAT HAS MICHELIN TIRES ON IT. I PURCHASED THE TIRES ON SEPTEMBER 9, 2011. I HAD 76540 MILES ON THE VAN AT THAT TIME. TODAY I HAVE 100,955 MILES ON THE VAN, THAT IS A LITTLE OVER 24000 MILES ON THESE TIRES. I WAS HAVING THE VEHICLE INSPECTED PRIOR TO A VACATION WITH MY DAUGHTER. I WAS TOLD THAT ALL 4 TIRES HAVE TERRIBLE DRY-ROT. THIS IS VERY CONCERNING AND DANGEROUS AND I AM ALERTING YOU TO THIS PROBLEM. THESE TIRES SHOULD HAVE MANY MORE YEARS OF LIFE IN THEM AND DO NOT HAVE VERY MANY MILES ON THEM. I WOULD APPRECIATE MICHELIN REPLACING THESE TIRES .. THESE TIRES HAVE A 70,000 MILE WARRANTY ON THEM HOWEVER THEY ARE NOW 6 YEARS OLD, AND JUST PAST THE MICHELIN WARRANTY DATE. I WAS TOLD BY NTB MANAGER THAT MICHELIN HAVE A TENDENCY TO DRY-ROT/ CRACK AND HE EVEN HAD THIS HAPPEN TO ONES ON HIS CAR. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD. NEW TIRES WILL COST OVER $800 ON THIS VEHICLE. ALTHOUGH I WOULD AGREE TO PICK UP SOME OF THAT COST SINCE I HAVE USED THE VEHICLE, HOWEVER THERE SHOULD BE AT LEAST 70% LEFT ON THE LIFE OF THESE TIRES. I AM CONCERNED ABOUT DRIVING ON THEM AS IS BECAUSE THERE IS A GOOD CHANCE OF A BLOW OUT AND SINCE IT IS HAPPENING ON ALL 4 TIRES THAT COULD BE DISASTROUS. I HOPE THAT MICHELIN AGREES THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THESE TIRES AND THAT THEY STAND BY THEIR BELIEF IN PROVIDING A GOOD PRODUCT, FREE FROM DEFECTS. THANKS
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 KIA SEDONA EQUIPPED WITH KUMHO RADIAL 798 TIRES, SIZE 225/70/R16, DOT H2VFYA1H2008. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH THE REAR DRIVERS SIDE TIRE BLEW OUT. THE CONTACT HAD THE TIRE REPLACED WITH THE SPARE TIRE. THE TIRES APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 2,000.

ON THE MORNING OF THE INCIDENT I DROVE TO WORK (APPROX 25 MILES) AT SPEEDS IN EXCESS OF 60 MPH WITH NO INCIDENT. AFTER PARKING I ENTERED MY WORKPLACE. DURING LUNCH I GOT IN THE VEHICE AND BEGAN TO TRAVEL TO A NEARBY REASTAURANT. I WAS DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH WHEN THE VHEICLE'S HOOD BECAME UNLATCHED AND OPENED. THE HOOD OPENED WITH SUCH FORCE THAT THE HOOD LIFT STRUT SUPPORTS BROKE, ALLOWING THE HOOD TO OPEN, OVER EXTEND, OBSTRUCT MY VISION, AND STRIKE THE WINDSHIELD. UPON STRIKING THE WINDSHIELD THE GLASS SHATTERED. I SLOWLY PULLED TO A NEARBY PARKING LOT, TOOK A PICTURE WITH MY PHONE,AND CLOSED THE HOOD. I LATER CALLED KIA CUSTOMER SERVICE AT 1-800-333-4542 AND REPORTED THE INCIDENT. I WAS GIVEN A CASE NUMBER OF 13015302. I WAS ADVISED TO PROCEED TO AN AUTHORIZED KIA DEALEARSHIP AND BE SEEN FOR NHTSA RECALL NUMBER 16V-389. IF THE LATCH WAS FAULTY, I WAS TOLD THAT KIA WOULD COVER THE COSTS OF REPAIRS. WHEN THE DEALERSHIP WAS CALLED, I WAS ASSURED THAT THERE WERE NOT RECALLS ON MY VEHICLE, WHEN TO THE CONTRARY, I WAS SENT A RECALL DOCUMENT SC134 FROM KIA CASE WORKER, BILLY WELLS. I WAS FINALLY ABLE TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT. I DROPPED THE VEHICLE OFF FOR THE APPOINTMENT. AFTER APPROXIMATELY 4 HRS THE LOCAL KIA DEALERSHIP SERVICED THE VEHICLE AND PRODUCED PAPER WORK STATING THAT THERE WAS NO PROBLEM WITH THE EQUIPMENT.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 KIA SEDONA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SUN VISOR WOULD NOT REMAIN IN AN UPRIGHT POSITION AND WAS OBSTRUCTING HIS VIEW. THE DEALER DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE YET THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. MANUFACTURER DEFECT IN AIR CONDITIONING COMPRESSOR; I BOUGHT MY 2006 KIA SEDONA BRAND NEW IN DECEMBER. WHEN I BEGAN TO USE THE AC IN THE SPRING, THE DRIVER SIDE WAS NOT PRODUCING THE SAME COLD AIR AS THE PASSENGER SIDE OR THE BACK AC. I TOOK MY VEHICLE BACK TO DEALERSHIP TWICE, THE SECOND TIME I WAS TOLD THAT I MUST HAVE HAD A COLLISION WITH SOME ROAD DEBRIS AND CAUSED THE DEFECT. THEY STATED THEY PUT FREON IN AND "IT RAN OUT AS FAST AS WE PUT IT IN" ~ I STATED FREON IS A GAS ~ SHOULDN'T IT HAVE EVAPORATED? THEY SAID IT WOULD COST $1100 TO FIX IT, AND I STATED WHAT ABOUT MY WARRANTIES, THEY STATED THAT BECAUSE IT WAS MY FAULT THAT I HAD TO PAY. THEY TOLD ME TO CONTACT MY INSURANCE COMPANY, WHEN I DID THIS THE INSURANCE COMPANY STATED THAT IT WOULD BE LISTED AS A COLLISION AND MY INSURANCE PREMIUMS WOULD GO UP. WHEN I WENT TO PICK UP MY VEHICLE, I WAS DRIVING HOME IN 100+ DEGREE TEMPS, THROUGH RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC WITH MY INFANT; THE AC AIR WAS HOTTER THAN THE OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE. (I ACTUALLY MADE THE MANAGER OF THE STORE COME OUTSIDE TO FEEL THE AIR BEFORE LEAVING THE DEALERSHIP.) I TOOK MY KIA TO A SECOND DEALERSHIP WHO CLEARLY STATED AS SOON AS THEY LOOKED AT MY VEHICLE, "OH THAT IS A MANUFACTURER DEFECT", BUT SINCE THE DEALERSHIP (WHERE I BOUGHT MY KIA) HAD PUT INTO THE COMPUTER THAT I HAD CAUSED THE PROBLEM, KIA WOULD NOT WARRANTY MY PART. SO MUCH FOR THE WARRANTY AND EXTENDED WARRANTY!! NEEDLESS TO SAY, THE SECOND DEALERSHIP ADDED FREON AND MY VEHICLE STILL HAS COLD AIR, THAT WAS 9 MONTHS AGO! THE FIRST DEALERSHIP WAS ALSO SUPPOSED TO FIX MY HANDLES AND HOOD; WHEN I FIRST BOUGHT MY VEHICLE, THE HOOD PAINT WAS MESSED UP AND THE PLASTIC ON THE HANDLES WAS MELTED ON. IT TOOK 2 TRIPS TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THE WORKMANSHIP SUBSTANDARD! THEY SAID THEY WOULD CHANGE OUT MY HANDLES, INSTEAD THEY DECIDED TO REPAINT MY HANDLES, WHAT A JOB THEY DID!! THEY USED SPRAY PAINT AND GOT DROPLETS ALL ON MY INSIDE DOOR PANELS! I'M FINISHED WITH KIA PRODUCTS! *TR
