VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL:THROTTLE

The defect: KTM North America, Inc. is recalling certain 2022-2023 Husqvarna Svartpilen 401, Husqvarna Vitpilen 401, and 2022-2024 KTM 390 Adventure motorcycles. Water could enter the throttle (e-throttle) control unit and cause it to fail, resulting in loss of drive power.
The risk: Loss of drive power while riding increases the risk of a crash or injury.
The remedy: KTM and Husqvarna dealers will inspect and replace the e-throttle control, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed April 30, 2026. Owners may contact KTM customer service at 1-888-985-6090. KTM's number for this recall is KTB2606 and HTB2603. The VINs involved in this recall became searchable on March 31, 2026.

The contact owns a 2024 KTM 390 Adventure. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V598000 (Vehicle Speed Control); however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The dealer was contacted and confirmed that there was no part available for the recall repair; however, the dealer was closed. Another dealer was contacted, Beaverton Motorcycles & Powersports (10380 SW Cascade Ave, 1st Floor, Tigard, OR 97223); and it was confirmed that the part was not available. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The manufacturer could not provide an ETA for parts available. The contact had not experienced a failure.

The contact owns a 2024 KTM 390 Adventure. The contact stated while driving approximately 55 MPH, the throttle was applied, and the motorcycle stalled. The contact stated that when the motorcycle was restarted, the check engine and ECU warning lights illuminated on the instrument cluster. The contact was able to drive the vehicle back to the residence but had experienced several other stalling events while the throttle was applied. The motorcycle was taken to a power sports repair shop and the throttle was reset. The motorcycle was repaired; however, the failure reoccurred. The motorcycle was not taken back to the same power sports repair shop. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V598000 (Vehicle Speed Control); however, the part was not yet available. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and confirmed that the parts was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The failure mileage was 950.

I purchased a 2024 KTM 390 Adventure on June 21, 2025 and within 1/4 mile of driving it away from the dealership my throttle completely cut out as I was merging into traffic. The bike had 2 miles on it and was brand new. I turned the key to the bike off and back on after I was sitting in the bike lane of the road. I started the bike back up and was able to make it another mile down the road when my throttle completely cut out as I was making a left turn through an intersection. I rode the bike immediately back to the dealership and explained the situation. They said they hadn’t heard of anything like that before and had their mechanic inspect it. They confirmed the bike had a short in the e-throttle and gave me another new 2024 KTM 390 Adventure. I received a recall in September 2025 about the known issue of the throttle cutting out and that my current bike is one of the affected VINs. I am writing this complaint because KTM has not come up with a remedy in a timely manner. I don’t feel safe or confident riding my bike knowing I could be injured or killed if the throttle cuts out on me at the wrong time.

KTM North America, Inc. has determined that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists with certain model motorcycles listed above. On certain motorcycles, water could enter the throttle (e-throttle) control unit and cause it to fail. A loss of engine power increases the risk of a crash. To remedy this defect, the original e-throttle assembly on all affected motorcycles must be replaced with the new e-throttle assembly that is now available.

KTM North America, Inc. has determined that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists with certain 2022, 2023 and 2024 390 ADVENTURE motorcycles. On certain motorcycles, water could enter the throttle (e-throttle) control unit and cause it to fail. A loss of engine power increases the risk of a crash. To ensure the highest level of safety, performance, reliability and customer satisfaction, it is necessary to replace the e-throttle assembly on all affected motorcycles. Due to the replacement e-throttle assembly not being available the e-throttle assembly replacement on affected motorcycles can’t be performed at this time.
