What this page shows
Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 2009 Land Rover Range Rover Sport, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.
Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

What the reports in each category say, in the owners' own words
Electrical
Reports naming the electrical system — wiring, battery, charging, control modules, infotainment and electrical accessories.
From owner reports, verbatim
There are KNOWN areas around the A pillar, windshield, and sunroof that leak and allow water to enter the vehicle and pool up in the wiring channels next to the doors, the water causes shorts and corrosion in the wiring which causes faults (Check engine, etc) that the owner is forced to attempt to correct on their own. There are numerous videos made by Land Rover owners over the last 15 years showing the common areas where water enters the vehicle. The average owner is not mechanical inclined and will not pull apart their vehicle to search for places where water is entering. Land Rover knows about this issue and does nothing but charge their customers many hours of labor at the dealership to investigate. The water damage to the wiring has and will cause issues with the vehicle that the average person will or must go to the dealership to attempt a repair.
I WAS DRIVING OUT OF WHATABURGER ON 8-2-16 AND ALL OF A SUDDEN MY BRAKES JUST WENT ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE FLOOR BOARD AND I STOPPED RIGHT BEFORE I WAS IN TRAFFIC. MY TIRE PRESSURE LIGHT STAYS ON, I HAVE HAD THEM CHECKED SEVERAL TIMES & THE BACK OF THE TRUCK JUMPS TO THE SIDE IF I HIT A BUMP. ALL OF THIS SCARES THE HECK OUT OF ME AND I HAVE ONLY HAD THIS VEHICLE 5 MONTHS. ALSO THE TRUCK WOULD START AND CUT OFF SO I TOOK IT TO A SHOP 4 TIMES AND THEY SO CALLED FIXED IT. I WAS TOLD I HAD OIL LEAKING INTO MY VALVES. IT IS STARTING BETTER BUT STILL SOME HESITATION AT TIMES.

Brakes
Reports naming service brakes, the antilock braking system, brake hoses, master cylinders or the parking brake.
From owner reports, verbatim
FRONT BRAKE LINE HOSE FAILURE..BRAKE WENT ALL THE WAY TO FLOOR. I WAS STOPPED, PUT CAR IN REVERSE, FOOT STILL ON THE BRAKE, ALL THE SUDDEN MY FOOT WENT TO THE FLOOR. I PUMPED BRAKE BUT STILL TO THE FLOOR. WHEN BRAKE PEDAL WAS TO THE FLOOR THE CAR WOULD STOP. I KNOW TO KEEP PRESSING BRAKE TO THE BOTTOM BUT ANOTHER DRIVER MAY NOT AND HAVE NO BRAKES. CAR IS AT THE DEALER RIGHT NOW GETTING IT REPLACED. HAVING WORKED ON CARS FOR YEARS THERE IS NO EXCUSE FOR A CATASTROPHIC BRAKE HOSE FAILURE ON A 105,000 CAR THAT IS 9 YEARS OLD.

Tires & wheels
Reports naming tires, wheels, hubs, or the tire-pressure monitoring system.
From owner reports, verbatim
I purchased four Bridgestone Alenza AS Ultra tires (255 / 50R 19 107 W XL front and back) from Costco at 2700 Potomac Mill Circle, Woodbridge, VA on [XXX]. These tires were specifically for a 2009 Range Rover Sport HSE. The odometer reading was 105632 at the time of purchase, and the tires were installed on [XXX]. The present mileage as of today is 118233. However, after a mere 12,000 miles, all four tires are cracked along the bead inside the tire, showing the threads/wire. The tires are all torn in the sidewall at the bead above the inside of the rim edge and are non-repairable. There was no damage to the rim, nor any reason the tire might have been lacerated by the rim. The tire failure appeared to have occurred without provocation, and Costco had just conducted maintenance in April 2024. The tires have an 80,000-mile warranty, so I wonder how all four tires have the same issue on the inside of the tire after only 12,000-mileage has been recorded; it has been only two years. If the tires had failed while driving, this could have been catastrophic for me and my family, which could have ended up in the vehicle losing control and possibly loss of life since all four tires are damaged. The only driving is taking my son to school and driving in the local area for food. I had a tire inspection done with Cosco Tire in April 2024, and Firestone identified this issue during a wheel alignment on all four tires in June 2024. I took the vehicle to NTB and had a mechanic look at it, and the only conclusion they stated was that these were defective tires. This could have been an improper service by Costco, which they said was not there back in April 2024. The only warnings I had were the illuminated lamp of the TPMS, the tire pressure monitoring system, and the low-pressure warning for the tire The vehicle was brought to Costco for two inspections regarding the TPMS, and all the TPMS on the tires were working correctly; they could not determine the cause of the lamp. Other / unspecified
Reports whose component NHTSA recorded as unknown, or that do not map to one of the categories above.
From owner reports, verbatim
Spare tire wheel - no longer holds air. The section of the wheel that holds the "bead" has corroded. I checked another owner's wheel and it had similar corrosion. I believe it is systemic. I tried to buy another spare tire wheel from Land Rover and it was backordered.

Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers.
