The defect: Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC (MBUSA) is recalling certain 2024 GLE 450e Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) vehicles. Due to a software error in the electronic stability program (ESP), the force required to stop the vehicle may increase, possibly requiring an extended distance to stop.
The risk: Extended stopping distance can increase the risk of a crash.
The remedy: Dealers will update the ESP control unit software, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on February 29, 2024. Owners may contact MBUSA customer service at 1-800-367-6372.

Manufacturer communication
Manufacturers file copies of the bulletins they send to dealers with NHTSA. These often describe diagnostic or repair procedures for a known condition. They are not recalls: repairs described in a bulletin are usually only free if the vehicle is still under warranty or the manufacturer has extended coverage.
