2012 Mercedes-Benz GLK350 Fuel system Problems

Owner-reported complaints naming the fuel system system, filed with NHTSA

Data refreshed

Fuel system reportsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

I smell gasoline every time I fill up the gas tank and don't smell it when not quite full. I haven't check yet but I think that the fuel pump flange has deteriorated. My co-worker has the same exact issue and he found out that it was the fuel pump flange. There was a safety recall about this issue back in 2013 and I was not sure if this issue was corrected before on my vehicle and think this needs to be recalled again. Please investigate. Thank you. Sincerely,

My 2012 GLK350 leaking gas from under the rear right passenger seat, where the gas cap located. we fill up gas when we came back to home and park in the garage gas smell was very strong We thought may be because of spill some gas while Pumping. Next day gas smell was still strong inside of garage. I found gas leaking from under the rear right passenger seat. gas was dripping on the plastic cover Panel. I started google to find out what is the problem. Then I found NHTSA recall document #12V-557 regarding this problem, the Document specifically indicate and explained about faulty fuel filter flange might crack to leak gas fuel.it stated certain Model Year 2011-2012 GLK350.So I went House of import MB dealer service advisor [XXX] inspected car briefly then he checked MB recall status of my car. he said my car gas leak problem is not on recall list So they can't not repair under recall program. But he said there is another program that may cover it. I was confused and very upset . because there recall is exactly same as my problem I didn't understand why my car was not included on recall . they are going to inspect my car to see find out what is problem first. I like to report to NHTSA let you know my was leaking gas just like other recall Let you included in recall list Thankyou very much sincerely yours [XXX] INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

The contact owns a 2012 Mercedes-Benz GLK350. The contact stated that the vehicle was leaking fuel underneath the rear-end of the vehicle. The failure occurred intermittently; however, the leak was now more frequent. The contact took the vehicle to a certified mechanic who diagnosed and related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 12V557000 (Fuel System, Gasoline) however, the VIN was not included. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 120,000.

Every time the car's tank is filled with gas some leaks out on the ground. There is also a strong smell of gas in the cabin. I see there are many other complaints concerning this issue. Will someone please take action and force Mercedes Benz to fix this defective product.

I have a Mercedes GLK 350 .When I fill up the gas tank in full I can smell gas. I called the dealer and they refused to fix it because there is no recall in Mercedes GLK 350 and it is not covered by emission warranty. They will charge me $200 just to diagnose the problem

THE GLK SMELLS LIKE GAS ANY TIME IT'S FUELED UP. I NEVER TOP IT OFF BECAUSE IF I DO, IT LEAKS FUEL UNTIL I GET DOWN TO 3/4 OF A TANK. I TOOK IT IN TO GET LOOKED AT AND THE DEALERSHIP WARRANTY DEPT. TOLD ME MY VIN NUMBER WAS NOT ONE OF THE ONES AFFECTED BY THE SAMEEXAT TYPE OF FUEL LEAK AS OTHERS IN THE RECALL! I AM SORRY THAT I EVER BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE, I WILL NEVER BUY MERCEDES-BENZ AGAIN1

SINCE NEW THE GLK WOULD SMELL LIKE GAS ANY TIME YOU FUELED UP. I NEVER TOPPED IT OFF BECAUSE THE DEALER TOLD ME THAT MAY BE A REASON YOU SMELL THE FUEL. I TOOK IT IN TO GET LOOKED AT AN THEY TOLD ME IT'S COMMON IT'S JUST THE EVAP SYSTEM WORKING. THAT'S FINE BUT AFTER A FEW YEARS ANYTIME I FILLED UP I NOTICED IT WOULD START LEAKING ONTO MY GARAGE FLOOR. I TOOK IT IN TO THE DEALER AND THEY TOLD ME IT'S OUT OF WARRANTY BY A MONTH AN THIS WOULD COST OVER A THOUSAND TO GET FIXED. I TOLD THEM I READ THAT A LOT OF MB ARE GETTING RECALLED DUE TO THE FUEL LEAK. AND THEY TOLD ME MINE IS NOT ONE OF THEM. IT'S SO FRUSTRATING TO BUY A CAR BRAND NEW AN HAVE FUEL LEAKING OUT OF UR GAS TANK. I HAVE TO FILL UP TO 3/4 OF THE TANK TO KEEP IT FROM LEAKING. I'VE BEEN DOING THAT FOR ALMOST 2 YEARS NOW.

EVERYTIME I FILL UP THE TANK, IT SMELLS GAS IN THE GARAGE AFTER IT STAYS OVERNIGHT. I DO NOT OVERFILL THE TANK. BUT, THIS STILL PERSISTS. MANY MB OWNERS I HAVE SEEN ON THE MB BLOGS AND INQUIRIES ABOUT THIS HAVE THE SAME ISSUE. THIS IS A POTENTIAL SAFETY HAZARD ISSUE THAT REQUIRES IMMEDIATE SAFTETY RECALL. PLEASE INVESTIGATE. THANK YOU.

Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers.
