The defect: Multiquip, Inc. (Multiquip) is recalling certain 2018 Multiquip TRLR45H and TRLR70USH trailers. The center-mounted trailer jack may unexpectedly collapse from damage caused by excessive load on the trailer.
The risk: If the center-mounted jack unexpectedly collapses, there would be an increased risk of injury.
The remedy: Multiquip has notified Herc rentals, the company that owns all of the affected trailers, and will install additional gussets to the jack crossmember, free of charge. The recall began on March 23, 2018. Owners may contact Multiquip customer service at 1-800-421-1244. Multiquip's number for this recall is TL 20180306.

STRUCTURE; STRUCTURE:FRAME AND MEMBERS

Herc Rentals ordered Qty 7 of the TRLR45H and Qty 6 of the TRLR70USH with a specific requirement of a center mounted jack in the A-Frame. On our normal production however, for these models, the jack is only mounted on the driver side of the A-Frame. When we designed the frame with this customization, it was designed with a safety factor of 4x. However, inspection of the finished frames during assembly of running gear, and knowing the market in which these trailers would be used (rental market), we chose to increase the strength factor of this option by adding additional gussets to the cross member, on which, the center mount jack is installed.The service bulletin is issued towards that purpose. Enhancement of the trailer structure is a precautionary measure to guard against unintentional overloading that may occur in the field. Without the additional gussets, the center mounted jack may unexpectedly collapse, when the trailer is dragged in the rental yard with the jack down position.
