STRUCTURE; STRUCTURE:FRAME AND MEMBERS
Herc Rentals ordered Qty 7 of the TRLR45H and Qty 6 of the TRLR70USH with a specific requirement of a center mounted jack in the A-Frame. On our normal production however, for these models, the jack is only mounted on the driver side of the A-Frame. When we designed the frame with this customization, it was designed with a safety factor of 4x. However, inspection of the finished frames during assembly of running gear, and knowing the market in which these trailers would be used (rental market), we chose to increase the strength factor of this option by adding additional gussets to the cross member, on which, the center mount jack is installed. The service bulletin is issued towards that purpose. Enhancement of the trailer structure is a precautionary measure to guard against unintentional overloading that may occur in the field. Without the additional gussets, the center mounted jack may unexpectedly collapse, when the trailer is dragged in the rental yard with the jack down position.
Manufacturers file copies of the bulletins they send to dealers with NHTSA. These often describe diagnostic or repair procedures for a known condition. They are not recalls: repairs described in a bulletin are usually only free if the vehicle is still under warranty or the manufacturer has extended coverage.
