Recalls, owner-reported complaints, investigations and safety data

Data refreshed

Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

Safety recallsA safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Whether a specific vehicle is covered depends on its VIN — a recall listed for a model year does not necessarily apply to every vehicle of that year.
0
InvestigationsNHTSA opens an investigation to examine whether a safety defect may exist. An open investigation is not a determination that a defect exists, and many investigations close without a recall. Investigations can, however, lead to one.
0
Crash or fire reportedComplaints whose submitter recorded that a crash or a fire occurred. These are the reporter's own answers on the NHTSA form, not verified findings.

Overview

Our database contains 5 NHTSA owner-reported complaints for the 2009 Nissan 350Z, most frequently naming the engine, interior & seats and exterior lighting categories. 67 manufacturer communications are on file.

Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

What owners report

Complaints grouped by the component NHTSA recorded

  • Engine233.3%
  • Interior & seats116.7%
  • Exterior lighting116.7%
  • Steering116.7%
  • Tires & wheels116.7%

Percentages are of component mentions. A single complaint can name more than one component, so these do not sum to the total complaint count.

Safety recalls

No recalls in our database for this model year

That does not guarantee a specific vehicle is unaffected — recalls are issued against VINs, and new campaigns are announced regularly. Check a VIN on NHTSA.gov.

NEW 350Z ROADSTER PURCHASED IN JULY 2009 WITH BRIDGESTONE POTENZA 225/45R 18 HIGH PERFORMANCE TIRES. CAR HAS BEEN DRIVEN 9000 MILES. AFTER HAVE A FLAT DUE TO A NAIL IN THE TREAD AND BEING PLUGGED. THE TIRE DEVELOPED AN HENS EGG SIZE BUBBLE ON THE SIDEWALL. ( CAR WAS NOT DRIVEN ON FLAT) WHEN I CONTACTED THE NISSAN DEALER I WAS TOLD THE TIRES WERE WARRANTED BY FIRESTONE. WHEN I CALLED THE FIRESTONE DEALER AND EXPLAINED THE BUBBLE, I WAS TOLD THAT I HAD BRUISED THE TIRE BY HITTING A CURB AND THAT WAS NOT UNDER WARRANTY. I TOLD THE DEALER THAT HAD NOT HIT A CURB . NO ASSISTANCE FOR WARRANTY WAS EVEN OFFERED. HAD TO PURCHASE A NEW TIRE AT FULL RETAIL. MY QUESTION TO YOU IS AFTER READING ALL OF THESE COMPLAINTS OF THE SAME PROBLEM ALONG WITH THE UNKNOWN NUMBER THAT DOES NOT REPORT THESE WILL IT TAKE TO GET THESE UNSAFE TIRES ( IN MY OPINION) OFF THE ROAD. YES I AM UPSET WITH THE MANUFACTURER FOR NOT STANDING BEHIND THIS PRODUCT. TIRE WARRANTIES SEEM TO ONLY PROTECT THE MANUFACTURE NOT THE CONSUMER. YOU CAN REST ASSURED BRIDGESTONE WILL NOT BE ON THIS NEW CAR MUCH LONGER. *TR

HELLO, A NUMBER OF NISSAN 370Z OWNERS ARE REPORTING ISSUES WITH UNREASONABLY HIGH OIL TEMPS AND OVERHEATING, BOTH IN NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS AND ON THE TRACK. PLEASE OFFER A SOLUTION TO ALL OWNERS TO FULLY RECTIFY THE SITUATION. THE 370Z IS A SPORTS CAR THAT IS BUILT TO HANDLE AND OUTPERFORM THE COMPETITION AT HALF THE COST. THE Z IS AN ICON. IF A RECALL IS NECESSARY, PLEASE ISSUE A RECALL. ALSO, A NUMBER OF NISSAN 370Z OWNERS HAVE ISSUES WITH THEIR SEATS MOVING UNDER BRAKING, ACCELERATION, AND CORNERING. THE SEATS SHOULD NOT BE MOVING AT ALL WHILE DRIVING. PLEASE INVESTIGATE THIS ISSUE IMMEDIATELY AND FULLY RECTIFY THE SITUATION. THIS IS A VERY LARGE SAFETY MATTER. IF A RECALL IS NECESSARY, PLEASE ISSUE A RECALL. THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME. MARCUS SOORI P.S. Manufacturers file copies of the bulletins they send to dealers with NHTSA. These often describe diagnostic or repair procedures for a known condition. They are not recalls: repairs described in a bulletin are usually only free if the vehicle is still under warranty or the manufacturer has extended coverage.
