1991 Nissan D21 Problems

Owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA, grouped by component

Data refreshed

Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

What this page shows

Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 1991 Nissan D21, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.

Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

AROUND FIVE YEARS AGO, WE BOUGHT 4 NEW DOUGLAS ULTRA TRAC 2 TIRES FROM THE LOCAL WALMART. THE TRUCK WAS RETIRED FROM HIGHWAY USE SHORTLY AFTER AND THE TIRES HAVE LESS THAN A THOUSAND MILES USE ON THEM. THE TRUCK HAS BEEN IN LIGHT USE AROUND THE HOUSE TO MOVE MATERIALS AFTER, AND SEEN LESS THAN ONE HUNDRED MILES USE. SILVER CITY NEW MEXICO IS A RURAL AREA WITH NO SMOG AT AROUND 6 THOUSAND FEET. I HEARD A NOISE IN THE YARD, WENT TO INVESTIGATE AND FOUND THAT A REAR TIRE HAD BLOWN OUT ON THE INSIDE REAR. THE FAILURE HAD COME FROM THE BEAD OF THE TIRE, ON THE SHADED SIDE OF THE WHEEL. THERE WAS NO OTHER DAMAGE TO BE SEEN ON THE TIRE. ON EXAMINING THE TIRE BEFORE REMOVAL, I FOUND THAT THE RUBBER WAS SO DETERIORATED THAT I COULD TEAR IT, CHORD INCLUDED, WITH MY BARE HANDS (I'M NEARLY 70 AND DISABLED). I FELT THAT THESE TIRES ARE A CONSIDERABLE SAFETY HAZARD. HAVE TRIED SEVERAL TIMES TO CONTACT THE LOCAL WALMART MANAGEMENT WITHOUT SUCCESS. HAS ANYTHING BEEN DONE TO REMOVE THESE TIRES FROM USE?

Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers.
