What this page shows
Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 2024 Nissan Kicks, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.
Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

Each component in detail
What the reports in each category say, in the owners' own words
Visibility
Reports naming windshields, glass, wipers, defrosters and mirrors.
From owner reports, verbatim
The contact owns a 2024 Nissan Kicks. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the defogger was activated, and the rear glass fractured. The contact stated that the sound was like a loud gunshot. The sound almost caused the contact to drive off the roadway. The contact stated that upon inspecting the vehicle, the wiring at the bottom of the glass was loose. The dealer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was scheduled for diagnostic testing within days. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, and a case was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 2,100.
Rear windshield suddenly shattered whilst driving without being struck or hit by anything. Just spontaneous shattering of the glass.
Driver assistance
Reports naming forward-collision avoidance, lane keeping, back-over prevention, cruise control and related electronic driver-assistance systems.
From owner reports, verbatim
The main infotainment display screen in my 2024 Nissan Kicks failed prematurely and blacked out completely, rendering the backup camera and rear cross-traffic safety systems entirely inoperable. This failure poses an immediate safety hazard to myself and pedestrians, as I am forced to drive and back up daily with zero rear visibility, completely losing essential safety features regulated by federal standards. The defect has been officially inspected and confirmed by an authorized Nissan dealership service center on two separate occasions. The dealer attempted to process a warranty replacement but informed me that the necessary replacement part was backordered due to inventory delays. Despite complying with the diagnostic process, Nissan Consumer Affairs has severely delayed a resolution since January 2026. On May 21, 2026, a supervisor corporate representative (Nancy, ID 7319115) refused to cover 100% of the manufacturing defect, denied providing a resolution in writing, and explicitly prohibited me from recording the phone call to avoid leaving an official audio trail of their statements. I am filing this complaint because Nissan is failing to fix an active safety hazard on a practically new vehicle under warranty.
The contact owns a 2024 Nissan Kicks. The contact stated that while driving at 7 MPH, the rear windshield glass shattered. Neither the dealer nor an independent mechanic was contacted. Additionally, after shifted to drive from reverse the back over prevention camera screen failed to immediately turn off. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or independent mechanic to be diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not under recall. The approximate failure mileage was 40,000.

The contact owns a 2024 Nissan Kicks. The contact stated that while driving approximately 40 MPH, the vehicle lost automotive power. The contact pulled over and turned off and restarted the vehicle but was unable to shift to drive(D). There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the residence. The contact stated that prior to the failure the vehicle was taken to a dealer for service and was advised that the transmission fluid needed to be flushed. The transmission fluid was not flushed. Additionally, during an oil change at a fast oil change service, the technician advised the contact that there was an oil leak coming from one of the spark plugs. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or mechanic to be diagnosed. The oil leak was not repaired. The contact had not taken the vehicle to the local dealer or independent mechanic for the transmission failure. The vehicle was diagnosed but was not repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 180,000.
I took my 2024 Nissan Kicks SV to the dealership with approximately 2000 miles on it. The vehicle as an increased concerning issue where, while idling in park with no one in the vehicle, the engine will have a continuous revving then loud click/clunk noise, return to normal, then start again. It’s been getting progressively louder. Dealership stated they were unable to replicate the issue and there were no codes/issues showing on the computer. It started happening around 1500 miles occasionally and quieter, but now at nearly 2500 miles it’s increasing in frequency and noise level. I’ve noticed it happens multiple times a week if not every time I drive the vehicle. This is very concerning for a new vehicle.

Body & structure
Reports naming the vehicle structure, frame, body panels, doors, hood and trim.
From owner reports, verbatim
On Friday, January 23, 2026, at approximately 6:41AM, I was going to Starbucks located at 5378 W. Rosecrans Ave Hawthorne, CA 90250. My partner and I were talking, I was just about to exit to get my coffee then we heard a loud “pop” like a gun shot, and then the sound of shattering glass. We jumped, frighted, startled by the sound, immediately looking over at the back seat of my car window. We both exited the car, a man who was outside of the front of my car (just walking by coming out of Starbucks) heard the same sound, he exclaimed “what was that a gun shot?”, we both thought it was an active shooter! I ducked and took cover. I was scared for my life. I noticed a women exiting her car across from mine, assumed it was safe. I asked her if she saw anything. She seen I was shaking up, and my window was shattered. She did not see anything. She asked if we needed assistance to contact the police department. Starbucks employees and witnesses assisted as we were unsure as to what was going on, and worried. I suffer from epilepsy and asthma and I have health problems. It was a lot to take in at that moment; my partner was concerned for me as I was for him. The thoughts of being killed kept running through our minds, and so thankful to be alive, we were completely traumatized! We had to get
The rear body vent seal failed, allowing water to enter the vehicle interior. This component is available for inspection. I noticed a sloshing water sound, and over time there was excess interior moisture, including repeated interior window frosting that required scraping for visibility. A Nissan dealership later confirmed water intrusion and interior mold contamination affecting the driver-side floor, rear seating area, and trunk. The presence of mold inside the cabin poses a health risk to occupants, and ongoing water intrusion creates a potential risk to vehicle electrical systems and other components. The issue was confirmed by a Nissan dealership through inspection and diagnosis. The vehicle has been inspected by Nissan service personnel. No police or insurance inspection was related to this issue. There were no warning lamps, messages, or alerts indicating water intrusion prior to discovery. The only symptom was the sloshing water sound, which prompted inspection.

The contact owns a 2024 Nissan Kicks. The contact stated that while driving at undisclosed speeds, the ABS warning light was intermittently illuminated. While driving 45 MPH, the vehicle failed to stop as intended while depressing the brake pedal. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated that excessive force was needed to stop the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to a dealer; however, the dealer was unable to duplicate the failure or diagnose the cause of the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and the contact was provided an assigned case number. The vehicle remained with the dealer however, the vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 15,730.
12/10/2024 brake warning light was on. Took to dealership and they found the left rear C1BDA-13 actuator malfunction, caliper parking brake motor to have open connection internally. Replaced on 12/13/24 along with gasket brake hose. 1/31/25 brake warning light on again. Dealership found the right rear C1BDB-13 actuator malfunction open. Unable to get code to reset. Replaced on 2/14/25 along with gasket brake hose. 2/19/26 brake warning light on again. Dealership found both rear actuators malfunction open and cracked (technician stated they were cracked in the video sent to me as an update), believe moisture getting inside parking brake calipers and freezing. Replaced both on 3/5/26 along with all 4 gasket brake hoses

Seat belts
Reports naming seat belts, buckles, retractors and pretensioners.
From owner reports, verbatim
The car was off and parked, I had been driving, and my grand daughter in the back seat. My grand daughter who is [XXX] old was getting out of the car from the passengers rear door and the rear seat belt locked and retracted around her , continuously tightened and was wrapped around her abdomen, squeezing and failed to release. I attempted myself to get her out of the entrapment with no success. I ran into the building for help, Four adults who were trained in child safety, devices attempted to activate the manual release mechanism described in the manual, but the belt remained completely jammed and trapped her, she was screaming in pain and due to the immediate physical trauma and emergency, we were forced to cut the seat belt to free my grandchild. Nissan Consumer Affairs was notified under Reference # XXX, but they have closed the file, refused to cover the repair, and explicitly refused to provide me with a copy of their investigation report. The seat belt retractor represents a severe safety hazard. I have called them and they state, case closed and no, we won’t be releasing the report.
