2024 Nissan Sentra Problems
Owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA, grouped by component
Data refreshed
What this page shows
Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 2024 Nissan Sentra, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.
Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

Each component in detail
What the reports in each category say, in the owners' own words
Electrical
Reports naming the electrical system — wiring, battery, charging, control modules, infotainment and electrical accessories.
From owner reports, verbatim
While stopped at a light and the engine safety to save gas comes on and sitting for an extended period of time will cause my car to “start” and while my foot is on the brake the car will jerk forward it has done this on 6 separate occasions
Following a severe rainstorm, heavy water intrusion occurred inside the vehicle. The rear passenger floorboard and the interior of the trunk were completely saturated with water. Immediately following this water intrusion, the factory backup camera system completely failed and stopped functioning, creating an immediate rear visibility hazard when operating the vehicle in reverse. The vehicle was taken to an authorized brand dealership for inspection. The dealership confirmed that the backup camera module failed explicitly due to liquid/water damage, and the failed part is available for inspection. However, the dealership stated that all factory weather seals and body drains are clear and functioning perfectly. Because they cannot identify the engineering defect or source allowing water to bypass the structure, they denied warranty coverage. This is a significant safety concern as an unknown structural or body sealing defect is actively directing water into critical electrical safety components (the backup camera infrastructure), causing immediate equipment failure. The manufacturer has failed to identify the source of the leak or remediate the visibility hazard. No warning lamps or symptoms appeared prior to the failure.
Steering
Reports naming the steering system — racks, columns, power-steering assist and steering linkage.
From owner reports, verbatim
I was turning into a parking spot at a store when I tried to break the vehicle accelerated, then was forced into the wall and the vehicle, then went backwards, losing control, and continue to accelerate. The only way I was able to stop. The car is to put it and park and shut the engine off after hitting another vehicle behind me. I could not get out of the vehicle as the door was jammed when I got out of the vehicle it looks as if the steering column shaft came out of its place. It was exposed and stuck below the brake and gas pedals
Since I purchased the vehicle, I turn my steering wheel all the way to the left. It makes this clicking sound, and I can feel the clicking under me like it’s coming from the driver side and I have a maintenance notification on my dashboard fan. The clicking noise has gotten worse and made me do my own research on the problem. The tire needs maintenance, but there’s no flat so something told me to google exactly what was the problem was and I got a message on Google stating that there are many recalls on this particular car about a CV joint on the axle. I know that this is the problem because everything that was said online from people that had the car previously it’s the exact problem that I have. I need this inspected immediately.
Powertrain (other)
Powertrain reports that are not specifically the engine or transmission — driveshafts, axles, transfer cases and differentials.
From owner reports, verbatim
Vehicle is exhibiting the exact CVT/driveshaft fluid leak symptoms described in Recall 24V-304, but my VIN is currently excluded from the campaign scope.
The front left axle was replaced twice and the right axle replaced twice. Both have broken consistently. They were replaced by Nissan Dealer all times. My safety was put at risk by having to drive the vehicle with broken axles. There were no warning signs u til the axles started clicking and popping upon turning. The vehicle is available for inspection even though it is temporarily fixed.
Suspension
Reports naming suspension components — springs, struts, shocks, control arms and related hardware.
From owner reports, verbatim

Sway bar links are defective. The new one has just as much play is the old one. All oem Nissan parts.
Brakes
Reports naming service brakes, the antilock braking system, brake hoses, master cylinders or the parking brake.

While driving on the highway the hood released on its own while driving around 55 to 60 mph. No interior lever was pulled, and the hood still managed to flap open on its own damaging the windshield and denting the exterior of the hood. This is a safety issue please look into this as this could have put my life and others at risk.

My wife who was driving had stopped at a pedestrian crosswalk behind another car that had stopped to allow people to cross. While we were stopped a GMC truck plowed into the rear of our car at a high rate of speed. Police, fire, and an ambulance were called to the seen. The occupant driving the truck was ticked for driving to close and taking his eyes off the road. My wife and I suffered injuries because the airbags did not deploy. She had a leg contusion, arm, neck, back, injuries whiplash, and an erratic heart rhythm. I suffered a mild concussion from hitting the windshield causing a severe nose bleed and whiplash. We spent 4 hrs. in the Middlesex ER in Westbrook CT. I was given a CATSCAN and my wife two EKGs. We are both scheduled for follow-up visits with our primary care Doctors as well as Physical Rehab Therapy. The driver of the GMC had coverage and at present my car is at Grossman's Auto Body Repair located in Old Saybrook, CT. They are waiting for the appraiser from U.S.S.A insurance to arrive.
I had this car for seven months and in June 13,2024 car failed and caused accident.Prior to the accident the car was shutting off in traffic .Then June 13,2024 caused accident when going to work Car lost control due to computer issues. My vehicle camera and reporter recorded the whole thing and my foot was on break all way to accident.State farm insurance has a recorder and was shown. I'm reporting that before crash air bags sprayed out steam and burnt my arm.The airbags failed to deploy. When car was bounced on flate bed truck they deployed, not until then I was injured with burnt face and arm and cut knee. Please acknowledge to Nissan. I told them but they didn't report issue or investigated. The Nissan central have tie rod problems.

Fuel system
Reports naming fuel storage or delivery — tanks, pumps, lines, injectors and fuel leaks.
From owner reports, verbatim
In December 2025, the vehicle was towed to the dealer after it shut off and would not restart. No warning lights displayed, no low fuel light displayed either. Dealer attributed stall to low fuel (fuel range showed 30 miles remaining), found no diagnostic codes, attributed it to low fuel, added gas, and released the vehicle and charged a DX fee. In February 2026 (approximately two months later), the vehicle lost power again while being driven and was rear-ended while disabled. Post-collision dash photos show approximately half a tank of fuel and malfunction indicators illuminated. The dealership had notice of a shutdown event and failed to properly diagnose or investigate before returning the vehicle as safe in December. My daughter was injured as a result of the rear end accident. The vehicle was a total loss.
