What this page shows
Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 2008 Piaggio GTS 250, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.
Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

THE HEADLIGHT LENS (THE PLASTIC COVER) MELTED FROM THE HEAT OF THE BULB. APPARENTLY I AM NOT THE ONLY PERSON WITH THAT PROBLEM. THERE ARE PEOPLE ON EBAY SELLING HEADLAMPS FOR PARTS THAT HAVE MELTED LENSES. I ASKED PIAGGIO TO REPLACE IT AND THEY SAID NO. THE HEADLIGHT, OBVIOUSLY A CRITICAL SAFETY FEATURE, HAS A SERIOUS DESIGN DEFECT. IT IS NOT DESIGNED TO WITHSTAND THE BULB'S HEAT. THERE IS NO EXCUSE FOR SELLING VEHICLES WITH MELTING HEADLIGHTS. AGE IS IRRELEVANT. THIS COULD HAVE HAPPENED THE DAY I DRIVE THE VEHICLE OUT OF THE SHOWROOM. IF THE HEADLIGHT DOES NOT WORK WITH THE BULB SUPPLIED WITH IT -- IT DOES NOT WORK. PERIOD. I HAVE BEEN DRIVING FOR MANY YEARS, AND HAVE A MASTER'S DEGREE IN ENGINEERING. I HAVE NEVER HEARD OF A HEADLIGHT MELTING. THE MOTORCYCLE IS WELL CARED FOR, ONLY USED TO GO ON SHORT TRIPS TO THE TRAIN STATION AND IS STORED IN A GARAGE. ALL OF WHICH POINTS TO A DESIGN DEFECT. I DON'T KNOW WHEN THIS HAPPENED BUT I NOTICED IT LAST WEEKEND 11/17/19

Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers.
