What this page shows
Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 2008 Piaggio MP3 500, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.
Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

Ranked by how many owner reports name each component category

PIAGGIO MP3 2008 SCOOTER. A GLITCH IN THE STEERING MECHANISM NEARLY CAUSED ME TO CRASH TWICE. IT WAS REPAIRED AND NOW THE DANGEROUS STEERING ISSUE HAS RETURNED AGAIN. NO HELP FROM PIAGGIO. THIS IS A MAJOR DESIGN FLAW THAT COULD EASILY CAUSE A FATALITY OR INJURY!!! THE STEERING BEARINGS ON THESE MODELS SHOULD BE REPAIRED FOR FREE BUT PIAGGIO REFUSES TO ADMIT ANY FAULT. *TR
STEERING BEARING FAILURE. *TR

THE VEHICLE ENGINE QUIT WHILE MAKING A TURN THROUGH A CORNER. THIS IS A DANGEROUS SITUATION BECAUSE OF THE SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER. RECENTLY I HAVE HEARD PIAGGIO FINALLY CAME UP WITH AN ECU SOFTWARE UPDATE TO CORRECT THIS STALLING ISSUE BUT THEY WILL NOT RECALL ALL THE VEHICLES TO PREFORM THE 20 MIN SOFTWARE UPDATE THROUGH THEIR DEALER NETWORK. TO ME THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE IF THEY HAVE A KNOWN ISSUE AND A KNOWN FIX FOR A DANGEROUS SITUATION THEY SHOULD OFFER THE UPDATE AND NOTIFY ALL REGISTERED OWNERS. *TR

Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers.
