Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

Safety recallsA safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Whether a specific vehicle is covered depends on its VIN — a recall listed for a model year does not necessarily apply to every vehicle of that year.
0
InvestigationsNHTSA opens an investigation to examine whether a safety defect may exist. An open investigation is not a determination that a defect exists, and many investigations close without a recall. Investigations can, however, lead to one.
0
Crash or fire reportedComplaints whose submitter recorded that a crash or a fire occurred. These are the reporter's own answers on the NHTSA form, not verified findings.

What owners report

Complaints grouped by the component NHTSA recorded

  • Other / unspecified16.3%
  • Powertrain (other)16.3%

Percentages are of component mentions. A single complaint can name more than one component, so these do not sum to the total complaint count.

No recalls in our database for this model year

That does not guarantee a specific vehicle is unaffected — recalls are issued against VINs, and new campaigns are announced regularly. Check a VIN on NHTSA.gov.

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 POLARIS VICTORY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BIKE EXPERIENCES THIRD GEAR FAILURE IN AN ABNORMAL OVERLOAD CONDITION, SUCH AS SHIFTING AT AMYTIME. AS A CONSEQUENCE, IF PIECES OF THE FAILED GEAR BECOME LODGED IN THE TRANSMISSION, THE TRANSMISSION COULD LOCK UP AND POSSIBLY RESULT IN LOSS OF CONTROL AND A CRASH. HE CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND WAS REFERRED TO THE DEALER IN REFERENCE TO A RECALL. THE DEALER STATED THAT HE WOULD HAVE TO INSTALL A REAR SPROCKET DAMPER ASSEMBLY AT THE COST OF $2,000. SECONDLY, THE TECHNICIAN ADDED THAT THE MANUFACTURER WOULD ONLY REIMBURSE HIM FOR 50% OF THE REPAIR COST. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 6,025. THE DEALER REPAIRED SOME RECALL ISSUES, HOWEVER THE PROBLEM CONTINUED. UPDATED 03/17/09. *JB

I HAVE A 1999 VICTORY MOTORCYCLE, THE BIKE IS OUT OF WARRANTY AND THE TRANSMISSION POP'S OUT OF GEAR, SOMETIMES IT'S DOWN SHIFTS WHEN YOU GO TO ACCELERATE. TRIED TO TALKED TO POLARIS WITH NO LUCK, DEALERS HAVE TRIED ON MY BEHALF, BUT THEY SAY THAT POLARIS MIGHT COVER IT IF THE DEALER FINDS SOMETHING WRONG IF NOT I HAVE TO PAY FOR COST OF BREAKDOWN AND PUT BACK TOGETHER. I HAVE COME ACROSS MANY OTHER VICTORY OWNER'S THAT ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM, SO IT SEEMS LIKE A MFG. PROBLEM THAT POLARIS SHOULD FIX. *NM

DT: 1999 POLARIS VICTORY V92C. THE CONTACT STATED THE TRANSMISSION SLIPPED INTO A FALSE NEUTRAL AND DOWN SHIFTED ON ITS OWN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP, BUT THEY STATED IT WILL HAVE TO BE DISASSEMBLED TO DETERMINE THE PROBLEM, AND THE CONTACT WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THE DIAGNOSIS. THERE HAS BEEN NO INSPECTION OF OR REPAIRS MADE TO THE VEHICLE DUE TO EXCESSIVE COST. *AK

They are not recalls: repairs described in a bulletin are usually only free if the vehicle is still under warranty or the manufacturer has extended coverage.
