The defect: Prevost Car (US) Inc. (Prevost) is recalling certain 2005-2024 X3-45, 2017-2019 and 2021-2023 X3-45 Commuter, 2006-2007, 2014, and 2018 H3-41, 2005-2020 and 2022-2024 H3-45, and 2019 H3-45 VIP buses equipped with a wheelchair lift. The wheelchair platform bridging device may be too steep, which can cause the wheelchair to become unstable. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard numbers 403, "Platform Lift Devices" and 404, "Platform Lift Installations."
The risk: An unstable wheelchair increases the risk of injury to lift occupants.

The defect: Prevost Car (US) Inc. (Prevost) is recalling certain 2014 and 2018 H3-41, 2013-2024 H3-45, 2012-2024 X3-45, and 2017-2023 X3-45 Commuter vehicles. The red beacon lighting on the Threshold Warning System (TWS) may not be bright enough. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 403, "Platform Lift Systems."
The risk: Beacons that do not provide proper illumination may be less visible to wheelchair lift users, increasing the risk of injury.

The defect: Prevost Cars, Inc. (Prevost) is recalling certain 2010-2018 H3-41, H3-45, H3-45 VIP, X3-45, X3-45 Commuter, X3-45 VIP, and X3-45 VIP Entertainer vehicles, equipped with certain Kidde Plastic-Handle or Push Button 'Pindicator' Fire Extinguishers. These extinguishers may become clogged, preventing the extinguisher from discharging as expected or excessive force may be needed to activate the extinguisher. Additionally, in certain models, the nozzle may detach from the valve assembly with enough force that it could cause injury and also render the product inoperable. The risk: In the event of a fire, if the fire extinguisher does not function properly, it can increase the risk of injury.

The defect: Prevost Cars, Inc. (Prevost) is recalling certain 2008-2018 H3-41, H3-45, H3-45 VIP, X3-45, X3-45 VIP, X3-45 VIP Entertainer, and XL2 motor coaches. The fuel tank cradle supports may have gaps at the points where the cradle connects to the coach frame, which can allow the attachment bolts to loosen and fail causing the fuel tank to fall from the vehicle.
The risk: If the fuel tank separates from the vehicle, it could be a road hazard and the vehicle would stall. Either scenario increases the risk of a crash.

The defect: Prevost Cars, Inc. (Prevost) is recalling certain model year 2012-2016 H3-41 and H3-45, 2011-2016 H3-VIP, 2011-2016 X3-45 Coach vehicles, 2012-2016 X3-VIP vehicles, and 2011-2013 XL2 Entertainer vehicles. The coolant line on the affected vehicles may be missing a positioning clip, allowing the coolant line to rub against the braided fuel hose at one of the injectors.
The risk: Contact between the fuel line and the coolant line may cause a fuel leak and result in fuel spraying onto hot exhaust components increasing the risk of an engine compartment fire.
The remedy: Prevost will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the fuel line for abrasion, replacing it as necessary. The fuel and coolant lines will be properly secured. The defect: Prevost Cars, Inc. (Prevost) is recalling certain model year 2010-2014 X3-45, XLII-45, H3-41, and H3-45 coaches manufactured November 30, 2009, to August 12, 2014. In the affected vehicles, the wires for the Automatic Fire Suppression System (AFSS) Linear Thermal Detector (LTD) may be damaged by temperatures in the engine compartment.
The risk: The damaged wires may activate the AFSS and shutdown the engine, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash.

(Prevost) is recalling certain model year 2010-2013 X3-45 and 2010-2014 H3-45 coaches manufactured May 1, 2010, through November 7, 2013, and equipped with Amaya Seats with a seat base that can be raised to accommodate wheel chairs. When the seat bases are raised and lowered they may rub against the seat belt and possibly cause damage to the seat belt.
The risk: A damaged seat belt may fail in the event of a crash, increasing the risk of injury to the seat occupant.
The remedy: Prevost will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and replace any damaged seat belts, and change the attachment point at the seat to remove the risk of damage to the seat belt, free of charge. In the affected vehicles, the windshield wiper motor housing may crack resulting in a loss of windshield wiper function.
The risk: Without functioning windshield wipers, the driver's visibility may be reduced, increasing the risk of a crash.

The cold inflation pressure shown on the certification plate is higher than the specification for the super single tires installed on the rear axle, which may lead to tire overinflation. Thus, these vehicles fail to conform to the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard Part 567, "Certification Regulation."
The risk: Tire overinflation may reduce traction, braking ability and handling, increasing the the risk of a crash.

In the affected bus, the transmission has the wrong software and may not lock to prevent movement while the wheelchair lift door is open. The risk: Without the transmission locking to prevent movement, if the parking brake lock fails while the wheelchair lift door is open, the bus may unexpectedly move, increasing the risk of injury.

Under certain conditions, the drag link collar position combined with an over torque of the collar retaining bolt may create a contact with the pitman arm.
The risk: This contact may cause the turnbuckle to fracture without warning. If the drag link turnbuckle breaks while the vehicle is in use, stability and vehicle control may be lost, increasing the risk of a crash.

Certain conditions may cause the affected coaches to go into a software mode that would result in the throttle signal being fixed at 1700rpms regardless of throttle pedal input from the driver.
The risk: Uncontrollable throttle position may lead to a loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash.

Alternator Front Bearing Failure

NHTSA's Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened a Preliminary Evaluation after reviewing field reports concerning alternator front bearing failures that cause elevated temperatures within the engine compartment, resulting in the fire suppression system (FSS) activating, immediately shutting the engine down, and rendering the bus inoperable.Analysis of the data provided by Prevost Car (US) Inc. showed high failure frequency and thermal events. An immediate shutdown of the bus can increase the risk of a crash or injury of bus occupants. In response to this investigation, Prevost Car (US) Inc. and Volvo Bus Corporation decided to conduct recalls 22V-221 and 22V-222. By submitting Part 573 Defect Information Reports on April 6, 2022, Prevost Car (US) Inc. and Volvo Bus Corporation notified ODI of a safety defect in certain model year (MY) 2010-2023 Prevost H3-45; X3-45; X3-45 Com; H3-45 VIP: X3-45 VIP and 2020 Volvo 9700 vehicles; some of these buses may have experienced thermal events after failure of the alternator front bearing, because the alternator belt continues to turn the alternator after the bearing failure.These recall actions address the safety concern that led to the opening of this investigation.Therefore, with these recall actions, this investigation is closed. The recalls encompass all model and MY vehicles addressed by the investigation. However, the closing of this investigation does not constitute a finding by NHTSA that a safety-related defect does not exist in other model or MY vehicles outside of the recall scope. The agency reserves the right to take further action if warranted by the circumstances.
