Brakes
Reports naming service brakes, the antilock braking system, brake hoses, master cylinders or the parking brake.
From owner reports, verbatim
Open recall for 2 years, no parts available.
The contact owns a 2018 Ram 3500. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V896000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the ABS warning light illuminated with an audible chime. The dealer was made aware of the failure but confirmed that parts were not yet available for the recall repair. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
Driver assistance
Reports naming forward-collision avoidance, lane keeping, back-over prevention, cruise control and related electronic driver-assistance systems.
From owner reports, verbatim
I am the owner of a 2018 Ram 3500 subject to Recall C4B (NHTSA Recall No. 24V-896) involving the Brake Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU). The recall was announced on November 27, 2024. As of June 2026, NHTSA’s website still states that the recall is incomplete and that a remedy is not yet available for my vehicle. The defect causes active symptoms during operation. The vehicle continuously chimes while driving, similar to a seatbelt warning, and cruise control is disabled. These symptoms substantially interfere with normal operation, especially during long trips and towing. I have contacted authorized Ram dealerships and Ram Customer Care multiple times. Dealerships state that no remedy is available and refer me to Ram Customer Care. Ram Customer Care confirms that no remedy is available and provides no repair timeline or meaningful resolution. Most concerning, neither the dealerships nor Ram Customer Care will initiate a repair attempt because no repair procedure or parts exist. Owners are therefore unable to obtain repairs or even establish documented repair attempts despite the existence of an active safety recall. I was also advised that I could rent a vehicle at my own expense and potentially seek reimbursement if approved. Given that this recall has been open for more than 18 months with no available remedy or repair timeline, expecting owners to personally fund rental costs for an unknown period with only the possibility of reimbursement is unrealistic and inadequate. This open safety recall has negatively impacted the vehicle’s usability, resale value, and trade-in value while preventing owners from obtaining a repair. Stellantis acknowledges the safety defect, yet no practical remedy or alternative solution is available. I respectfully request that NHTSA review the continued lack of an available remedy, the extended delay in repairs, and the absence of a meaningful process for affected owners to obtain relief.
There is still no remedy to this recall and my truck is affected - I have been driving with NO ABS AND NO TRACTION CONTROL for almost 4 YEARS. This has also deactivated my cruise control. This is unacceptable and compromises me and my families safety. This is not a question of if it is going to happen, but when. My vehicle isn't under the category of "may be susceptible to failure" it has failed and I have permanently lost those BASIC and CRITICAL safety features. It is simply a matter of WHEN the lack of those features will cause an accident. There must be something done. . I have spoken with Mopar and several dealerships and nobody has given me any solution other than to say they will call me when a remedy is available. That is NOT ENOUGH. Recall language for C4B "The brake hydraulic control unit (HCU) on your vehicle [1] may be susceptible to failure or malfunction which may result in a reduction or change of Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) /Electronic Stability Control (ESC) /Traction Control performance. A failing HCU will initially result in the intermittent loss of ABS/ESC/Traction control progressing to permanent loss. The loss of ABS/ESC/Traction control may cause a vehicle crash without prior warning. "
Electrical
Reports naming the electrical system — wiring, battery, charging, control modules, infotainment and electrical accessories.
From owner reports, verbatim
The recall for the brake hydraulic contol unit (C4B/NHTSA 24V-896) has not been addressed in years.....I have no brakes on my trailer from this failure. This needs fixed asap.
Odometer Fraud. The contact purchased a 2018 Ram 3500. It was discovered that there was a mileage discrepancy. The vehicle was a dealer sale. At the time of purchase, the vehicle mileage was 78,546 and at the time of a Carfax report check, it was discovered that the mileage was 699,573.
Steering
Reports naming the steering system — racks, columns, power-steering assist and steering linkage.
From owner reports, verbatim
My 2018 Ram 3500 had safety recall V06 (19V-021) performed, which involved welding the drag link. This recall remedy has caused a secondary safety defect: my vehicle is now severely out of alignment, causing rapid, uneven tire wear on the outside edges and compromising steering handling. I contacted FCA Customer Care (Case #97534845). They acknowledged TSB 19-001-19 exists for aligning welded trucks, yet my dealer refuses/is unable to align it. FCA representative 'May' then instructed me to 'pay out of pocket' to replace the steering components. FCA is refusing to honor the replacement clause outlined in their own STAR case 9100268. The manufacturer's recall remedy has ruined my steering geometry, and FCA is refusing to fix the safety hazard they created
Before the recall, I was driving my vehicle and the brakes and the power steering locked up. The vehicle felt like it was trying to drive with the emergency brake on. After this happened, I took the vehicle to Haley Jeep Jam, Richmond, VA, and they said they couldn't determine anything was wrong, but replaced the brake pads. Shortly after this visit to the service department, the recall appeared. Since the recall, we have contacted Haley Jeep Ram and Whitten Brothers multiple times, but they are unable to fix the recall due to no resolution from Daimler Chrysler. In August 2025, Whitten Brothers, Ashland, VA, replaced the part with a new, recalled part as a temporary fix. There is still no permanent fix for this recall which continues to be a safety risk. Since the vehicle has an outstanding safety recall, we are unable to sell or trade in this vehicle. We have been patiently waiting but believe this should no longer be our problem. Daimler Chrysler needs to do the right thing to assist the vehicle owners. We have mailed a corresponding letter to NHTSA. Thank you for your time.
Other / unspecified
Reports whose component NHTSA recorded as unknown, or that do not map to one of the categories above.
From owner reports, verbatim
The contact owns a 2018 Ram 3500. The contact stated that upon arriving at her destination and parking the vehicle, the front driver’s side tire was flat. After a visual inspection, the contact observed a crack on the wheel extending from the center hub outwards. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 03V212000 (Wheels); but the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 108,000.
On March 3rd, This dealership replaced the stop sale safety recall on our Commercial vehicle (C4B) with a part that was not created for our truck. This resulted in hydraulic brake fluid spewing out of the HCU all over significant areas under the hood, including the ABS Module and wiring. Upon realizing the HCU was spewing hydraulic brake fluid, we brought the truck back on March 7th, and again, the dealership replaced the HCU with the incorrect part (but assuring us it was the actual part for this specific recall) and Sam (service advisor) told us they would also be replacing the ABS Module and the wiring associated, as the ABS module had also been recently replaced and was still covered under warranty. When we received the car back, Sam (service advisor) explained that they would like the truck back at a later date to replace the wiring - that they have already replaced the ABS module so we will still see the ABS light, but only because the wiring needs to be redone. We picked up our truck on Friday March 8th, and when my fiancé began his route on [XXX] with his trailer attached, he made it about 20 miles before his truck completely shut down mid-drive while on a busy road- forcing him to have to coast over a 4 lane roadway and into a ditch avoiding collision of oncoming traffic with his trailer and equipment attached. We discovered that the mechanics had fraudulently replaced our HCU with another trucks HCU and had to force the recall through Mopar's reimbursement process, as it was rejected multiple times because the remedy is not currently available therefore unable to be completed. I have attached the full story in a PDF document for further information. Phone: [XXX] Email: [XXX] contact me for any information you may need in addition to this. The contact owns a 2018 RAM 3500. The contact stated while attempting to start the vehicle, the contact noticed an abnormal cracking sound and smoke coming from the engine compartment. The contact inspected and used a fire extinguisher to slow the smoke and electrical sparks down. The contact did not notice any fire. The fire department arrived and disconnected the electrical cables to prevent further damage. The contact stated that the vehicle was inoperable. In addition, the contact stated that the failure occurred while the contact was traveling on vacation. The vehicle was towed to the dealer. The contact was informed that the failure was not diagnosed. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The vehicle was later towed to an RV service center. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 23,000.
Recall C4B with known issue and known remedy but “no parts available.” Contacted RAM and with no parts they have no solution. You can rent an auto out of pocket and possibly be reimbursed. No option for buyback or solution. Recall came out 12/5/2024.

Trailer King RST 235/80R16: six of them on a triple axle boat trailer. Was towing a boat and experienced a blowout on the passenger rear trailer tire, of which we did not hit a pothole or strike debris. It bent the boat trailer fender and damaged several components of the trailer. It was identified by Discount Tire that the passenger side lead tire experienced belt separation, which is a manufacturer defect and was most likely the cause of the passenger side rear trailer tire to blow out and cause excessive damage to the trailer. There are numerous other customers of this tire who experienced significant blowouts on their trailer, which poses a safety risk to all who own trailers with these Trailer King RST tires and those who travel the roads with them. The belt separation was confirmed by a third-party tire shop recognized nationally. I submitted a claim for the blown out tire with the company manufacturer, and they claim it was not due to manufacturer defect. Unicorn tire does not accept responsibility for the manufacturer defect, even though it was confirmed by the company discount tire. These trailer tires are unsafe. Bottom line: two of six trailer tires that were two years old and had less than 3000 miles on them experienced belt separation, one of which had a significant blowout that could’ve caused serious accidents. This is not an isolated case as other reviews have shown these tires to be unreliable and unsafe disregard the VIN associated with this complaint as it would not accept my trailer VIN.
August 2024, arrived to Discount Tire, Lee Store in Prescott Valley, AZ. Showed salesperson my Ram 3500HD, also reflected on my account with them. Salesperson ordered 122Q instead of 122QE for 1 ton truck. This was intentional as 4 months later (December) brought in for excessive wear, manager on duty declined warranty and tried Toyo who required I go back to dealer placing me into procedural loopholes and denial of service from both. This week noticed drastically worse and demanded reopening of December claim. Same dealer manager on duty did nothing, reached out to Toyo again. At no point did anyone (Toyo, salesperson or Discount Tire Manager) admit the mistake as kept repeating premature disintegration of tread and safety issues. After continuous delays, knowing vehicle is 3500HD and these are not E-10 no viable actions taken to secure my safety. I researched further and found the wrong tires were installed on my vehicle. Tire company knew and withheld this vital piece of information and failed to take action when reported back in December and again in July. Tire on vehicle: Toyo Open Country CT - LT275/70R18 125/122Q. I have the back and forth emails for this month's and December. I've enclosed the one tire (purchased 4).

Traction control and ABS work intermittently. Ram sent out this notification for recall concerning stated problems but state there is no fix at this time. They continue to state there is no fix. This is a safety issue and you are not forcing them to repair. They are dragging their feet hoping it goes away. DO SOMETHING!!!!
On May 3, 2025, while driving my 2018 RAM 2500 with approximately 46,000 miles, the check engine light came on and the engine immediately experienced a significant loss of power. The vehicle entered a limp mode condition, drastically reducing speed and acceleration. I was forced to pull into a nearby business as the truck could not maintain safe highway speeds, creating a traffic hazard and contributing to congestion. The vehicle was diagnosed by a repair facility as having a failed turbo actuator, a critical component in regulating turbo boost and engine power delivery. After researching this issue, I have found numerous similar complaints and reports from other RAM truck owners on various owner forums and websites, indicating this may be a recurring and potentially widespread defect in these vehicles. Given that this failure occurred at relatively low mileage, caused a hazardous driving condition, and seems to be a commonly reported problem, I believe this issue warrants investigation by NHTSA for potential safety risks and manufacturer accountability. No injuries or property damage occurred, but the incident posed a significant safety risk to myself and other drivers.

I had the ABS recall repaired 3 years ago when Ram was refusing to acknowledge this as a defective product. I paid for this repair. Under the recall I'm elgiible for reimbursement but the company is refusing to reimburse me for the repair after I sent them an invoice showing proof of work and my payment. This can't stand. Please force them to issue a refund for the $100 I am owed.
Hello and good day, I purchased a 2018 DODGE RAM 3500 with 82k miles for $31k back in March 2024 @ Cambridge Truck located 5640 Glenn Hwy, Cambridge, OH 43725; Phone number 740-255-5200. My down payment was $8500 and my financial agreement was for $800 a month. My family and I were moving back to Connecticut and we needed a truck for all of our furniture/belongings, and for my fiancé's new landscaping business. On our way home the shifter wasn't shifting properly into gears but we still made it home, thank GOD. We contacted Capitol Garage Chrysler Dodge Jeep RAM which was the closest Dodge. I brought the truck in for a diagnostic and the truck was diagnosed with a faulty/failed transmission. Parts were ordered back in July and expedited in September. I've been in contact with Cambridge Truck and I've been unsuccessful getting anywhere with Cambridge or Dodge even though I purchase an extended warranty the day of purchase. I was having a full blown anxiety attack the day of purchase as well, as I was overwhelmed. I have [XXX] and a [XXX]. I've made every payment including $400 a month for insurance for a vehicle I had on the road for a week. Not to mention I had to extend my Mercedes benz lease as I had no truck to rely on. My Mercedes mileage contract was broken and I was unable to recover my $15,000 down payment. I also had to pay $1200 in lease extension costs, and $800 for insurance. I finally had to purchase another car in October with all of had in my bank $3,700. The truck was for my fiancé's business which has been on hold for 10 mouths, another $100k we're out. This is a huge loss and I'm being ignored and offered nothing. The dealership is well aware of what I'm out as I've requested a refund several times via text to the sales team. After further investigation the 2018 Dodge RAM 3500 has many recalls since 2017. THIS TRUCK CAN'T BE FIXED, THERE'S NO REMEDY OR UPDATES AVAILABLE. I NEED A REFUND! EARLY ON (BEFORE I NOTICED A RECURRING PROBLEM), WHILE SHIFTING INTO REVERSE, THE REAR VIEW CAMERA DID NOT DISPLAY IN THE REAR VIEW MIRROR. AFTER SHIFTING TO FORWARD, THE REAR VIEW CAMERA DISPLAYED IN THE REAR VIEW MIRROR SHOWING WHAT WAS BEHIND ME DURING THE DRIVE. AFTER THAT, (OCCASIONALLY) WHILE SHIFTING INTO REVERSE, THE REAR VIEW CAMERA LOCATED IN THE REAR VIEW MIRROR DOES NOT DISPLAY. AFTER RESEARCHING BLOWN FUSES AND SUCH (BASIC TROUBLESHOOTING), I FOUND I HAVE TO TURN THE TRUCK IGNITION OFF AND THEN BACK ON TO GET THE DISPLAY TO WORK. AFTER RESEARCHING THE PROBLEM ONLINE AND FINDING A RECALL NUMBERED: NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER 18V398000, I BELIEVE THE RECALL SHOULD BE ADJUSTED TO REFLECT (AT A MINIMUM OF DATE OF DATE OF MANUFACTURE OF MY VEHICLE) THE 2018 RAM 3500 AND ALL OTHER VEHICLES AFFECTED BY THIS RECALL.

On Sept 11, 2022, we experienced a heavy rain shower while traveling along I64 westbound in VA. My 7 year old daughter in the back seat informed me the headliner was wet in the rear driver side corner. Upon further inspection the passenger side headliner rear corner was also wet. I inspected the top of the ruck, no damage was noted and the seals all appeared to be in place. There is a Jereco High Rise cap on the bed of the truck and we were pulling a 38' travel trailer at the time. The posted speed limit was 70mph on the stretch of road where the rain was encountered, however we were traveling between 40-60 mph during the rain event. No immediate safety risk was present. However, I'm concerned water intrusion may eventually result in an electrical fire or failure of a required safety device. Should water find it's way into a hidden harness or other electrical component such as the CHMSL (VOQ 10968851) or factory subwoofer which is located below the area which leaked. The vehicle has not been inspected or repaired by a dealer as it is just out of warranty. I did report this to RAM via Ram trucks on-line owner's portal. No warning lamps, messages have been observed at this time.
