The defect

VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: MULTI-PURPOSE PASSENGER VEHICLES (LONG WHEEL BASE). AN INCORRECT SIZE/SHAPE OF THE METAL BODY HOUSING WHERE THE RIGHT FRONT SEAT BELT IS SECURED ALLOWS THE SEAT BELT REEL TO RUB AGAINST THE EXTERNAL HOUSING.

The risk

THIS CONDITION CAN AFFECT THE PERFORMANCE OF THE ASSEMBLY, INCREASING THE RISK OF INJURY TO AN OCCUPANT IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH.

The remedy

DEALERS WILL INSPECT, MODIFY, AND, IF NECESSARY, REPLACE THE SEAT BELT REEL.

OWNER NOTIFICATION IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN MARCH 15, 2000. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT EUROPA AT 1-888-538-7672.
