What this recall covers

NHTSA's campaign record, quoted as published

The defect

CERTAIN MOTOR HOMES HAD A WATER LINE (THERMOID VALUE-FLEX/GS) INSTALLED TO THE AQUA-HOT HEATING SYSTEM UNIT ("AQUA HOT") WHEN A FUEL LINE SHOULD HAVE BEEN USED.

The risk

THE INCORRECT LINE MAY ALLOW SEEPAGE OF FUEL AND VAPORS INTO THE BAY AREA OF THE MOTOR HOME, CREATING THE POTENTIAL FOR AN EXPLOSION OR FIRE WHICH COULD RESULT IN PERSONAL INJURY.

The remedy

DEALERS WILL REMOVE THE INCORRECT WATER LINE AND REPLACE IT WITH THE CORRECT FUEL LINE. OWNER NOTIFICATION IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN DURING MAY OR JUNE 2004. OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT MONACO AT 1-800-498-9478.

A safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Whether a specific vehicle is covered depends on its VIN — a recall listed for a model year does not necessarily apply to every vehicle of that year.
