The defect

ON CERTAIN MOTORCYCLES AND SCOOTERS, THE REAR BRAKE SHOE MATERIAL COULD SEPARATE DUE TO IMPROPER ADHESIVE CURING.

The risk

IF SUCH SEPARATION OCCURS DURING OPERATION, BRAKING ABILITY WITH THE REAR WHEEL WILL BE REDUCED OR LOST, WHICH COULD CAUSE A CRASH.

The remedy

DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE REAR BRAKE SHOES. THE RECALL BEGAN ON OCTOBER 8, 2004. OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT YAMAHA AT 1-800-889-2624.

Notes

CUSTOMERS CAN ALSO CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION'S AUTO SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-888-DASH-2-DOT (1-888-327-4236).

A safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Whether a specific vehicle is covered depends on its VIN — a recall listed for a model year does not necessarily apply to every vehicle of that year.
