The defect

NEW FLYER IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2004-2009 TRANSIT BUSES. THIS PANEL MAY NOT BE OF SUFFICIENT STRENGTH TO PREVENT FOREIGN MATTER FROM ENTERING THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT IN THE EVENT OF A DRIVE SHAFT FAILURE.

The risk

FAILURE OF THE DRIVE SHAFT ACCESS PANEL TO MAINTAIN PASSENGER COMPARTMENT INTEGRITY COULD RESULT IN INJURY OR DEATH.

The remedy

DEALERS WILL INCORPORATE AN ENERGY ABSORBING HONEYCOMB MATERIAL TO THE UNDERSIDE OF THE ACCESS PANEL. THIS SERVICE WILL BE PERFORMED FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON MARCH 10, 2010. OWNERS MAY CONTACT NEW FLYER AT 204-934-4874.

A safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Whether a specific vehicle is covered depends on its VIN — a recall listed for a model year does not necessarily apply to every vehicle of that year.
