What this recall covers

NHTSA's campaign record, quoted as published

The defect

Jayco is recalling certain model year 2012-2013 Jay Flight Swift SLX Travel trailers manufactured from October 24, 2011, through July 3, 2012. These trailers may have oversized bearings installed in the axle. This may cause excessive movement in the wheel hub, causing the bearings to become overheated and worn.

The risk

Overheated and worn bearings may lead to axle failure while driving, increasing the risk of a crash.

The remedy

Jayco will notify owners, and dealers will replace the axle bearings with proper size bearings, free of charge. The recall began on September 5, 2012. Owners may contact Jayco at 1-800-283-8267.

Notes

Owners may also contact The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153),or go to WWW.SAFERCAR.GOV.

A safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Whether a specific vehicle is covered depends on its VIN — a recall listed for a model year does not necessarily apply to every vehicle of that year.
