What this recall covers

NHTSA's campaign record, quoted as published

The defect

Newmar Corporation is recalling certain model year 2012-2013 Canyon Star motorhomes manufactured August 4, 2011, through February 19, 2013, for failing to conform to the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment." The affected vehicles may have missing reflectors on the rear cap.

The risk

The absence of reflectors could reduce the ability for others to see the motorhome, increasing the risk that another vehicle may crash into the motorhome.

The remedy

Newmar will notify owners and dealers will install the required reflectors. The safety recall began on June 20, 2013. Owners may contact Newmar at 1-574-773-7791.

Notes

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.

A safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Whether a specific vehicle is covered depends on its VIN — a recall listed for a model year does not necessarily apply to every vehicle of that year.
