The defect: Newmar Corporation (Newmar) is recalling various 1995-2018 motorhomes. A list of the affected vehicles available at: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2017/RMISC-17V809-2309.pdf. These motorhomes are equipped with Kidde Plastic-Handle or Push Button 'Pindicator' Fire Extinguishers that may become clogged, preventing the extinguisher from discharging as expected or excessive force may be needed to activate the extinguisher. Additionally, in certain models, the nozzle may detach from the valve assembly with enough force that it could cause injury and also render the product inoperable. The risk: In the event of a fire, if the fire extinguisher does not function properly, it can increase the risk of injury.
The remedy: Newmar will notify owners, and instruct them to contact Kidde for a replacement fire extinguisher, free of charge. The recall began on February 7, 2018. The defect: Newmar Corporation (Newmar) is recalling certain model year 2012-2017 Canyon Star motor homes manufactured September 7, 2011, to September 6, 2016 and equipped with wheelchair lifts. Incorrect bolts may have been used to install the wheelchair lift base. These bolts may unexpectedly break allowing the lift to move. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 404, "Platform Lift Installations."
The risk: Unintentional movement of the wheelchair lift can cause injury to the lift occupant and/or the lift operator.
The remedy: Newmar will notify owners, and Newmar service facilities will replace the wheelchair lift base mounting bolts, free of charge. The recall began on October 28, 2016. Owners may contact Newmar customer service at 1-800-731-8300.

The defect: Newmar Corporation (Newmar) is recalling certain model year 2008-2014 Bay Star, Dutch Star, and Ventana, 2012-2014 Bay Star Sport and Ventana VL, 2008-2015 Canyon Star, 2009-2010 Dutch Aire and 2008 Kountry Star motorhomes manufactured May 29, 2007, to January 14, 2015, and equipped with certain Coachstep Double and Triple Electric Steps manufactured by Lippert Components. The bolt that attaches the fan gear assembly to the steps may fracture allowing the fan gear to disengage from the steps. As a result, the steps may not remain in the expected position and may be unstable.
The risk: Unstable entry and exit steps increase the risk of injury.
The remedy: Newmar will notify owners, and dealers will install a retainer bracket to reinforce the operating mechanism, free of charge. The recall began on February 17, 2016. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 NEWMAR CANYON STAR 3920 WITH A 2013 FORD F53 CHASSIS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE RV WAS AT STAND STILL ON THE OUTSIDE OF A PARKING LOT, WHEN OPENING THE REAR DOOR, IT DETACHED COMPLETELY AND FELL ON THE CONTACT. THE CONTACT DID NOT SUSTAINED ANY INJURIES OR SEEK MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE RV WAS TAKEN TO LOCAL DEALER WILKINS RV OF BATH LOCATED AT 7520 NY-415, BATH, NY 14810, (607) 776-3103, WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED WITH NEEDING THE DOOR REPLACED. THE RV WAS TAKEN TO NEWMAR CORPORATION LOCATED AT 355 DELAWARE ST, NAPPANEE, IN 46550 TO HAVE THE DOOR REPLACED. THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER HAD BEEN INFORMED OF FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE APPROXIMATELY 35,000. *LN *DL

Mailing second notice on not corrected customer letters on NHTSA Recall: Newmar Corporation has decided that a defect relating to motor vehicle safety exists in specific motor homes. Issue: Certain motorhomes may have a defective refrigerator travel latch that may activate without the user?s knowledge when the doors are closed. If the latch locks the door shut, the refrigerator cannot be opened from the inside. This could potentially cause entrapment/injury to an individual. This only applies to French door style refrigerators with a specific travel latch. Attached is a list of specific coaches affected.

NEWMAR CORPORATION HAS DECIDED THAT A DEFECT RELATING TO MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY EXISTS IN SPECIFIC MOTOR HOMES. NHTSA#: 16V 008 TC#: 2016-018 NEWMAR CORPORATION HAS BEEN ADVISED BY LIPPERT COMPONENTS THAT ON CERTAIN MOTORHOMES USING LCI COACHSTEP ELECTRIC DOUBLE OR TRIPLE ENTRANCE STEPS, THERE IS THE POTENTIAL OF A STRUCTURAL FRACTURE WITHIN THE LIPPERT STEP ASSEMBLY. THERE IS THE POTENTIAL OF A STRUCTURAL FRACTURE OF THE CENTER BOLT OF THE FAN GEAR ASSEMBLY WHICH MAY CAUSE THE FAN GEAR ASSEMBLY TO DISENGAGE FROM THE STEPS. THIS ISSUE CREATES AN UNSTABLE PLATFORM, WHICH COULD CAUSE A PERSON TO FALL AND RESULT IN INJURY.
