The defect: Newmar Corporation (Newmar) is recalling certain 2017 Bay Star, Bay Star Sport, and Canyon Star vehicles, built on Ford chassis and equipped with Antilock Brake Systems (ABS). The brake Hydraulic Electronic Control Units (HECU) on these vehicles may be missing valve block ball plugs, potentially causing a brake fluid leak or air ingestion during electronic brake distribution and/or ABS activation.
The risk: A brake fluid leak or air ingestion can lengthen the distance needed to stop the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.
The remedy: Newmar will notify owners, and Ford or Lincoln dealers will inspect the HECU for missing valve block ball plugs, replacing the unit as necessary, free of charge. The recall began on January 24, 2018. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 or Newmar customer service at 1-800-731-8300. Newmar's number for this recall is 17V-768.

The defect: Newmar Corporation (Newmar) is recalling certain model year 2016-2018 Bay Star, Bay Star Sport, Canyon Star, Dutch Star, Essex, King Aire, London Aire, Mountain Aire, New Aire, Ventana and Ventana LE motorhomes. These vehicles may have a loose power connection at the Automatic Transfer Switch (ATS), possibly resulting in a build up of heat.
The risk: The build up of heat in the wiring from the loose power connection can increase the risk of a fire.
The remedy: Newmar will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the electrical connection at the ATS, tightening it as necessary, free of charge. The recall began on February 5, 2018. Owners may contact Newmar customer service at 1-800-731-8300.

The defect: Newmar Corporation (Newmar) is recalling various 1995-2018 motorhomes. A list of the affected vehicles available at: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2017/RMISC-17V809-2309.pdf. These motorhomes are equipped with Kidde Plastic-Handle or Push Button 'Pindicator' Fire Extinguishers that may become clogged, preventing the extinguisher from discharging as expected or excessive force may be needed to activate the extinguisher. Additionally, in certain models, the nozzle may detach from the valve assembly with enough force that it could cause injury and also render the product inoperable. The risk: In the event of a fire, if the fire extinguisher does not function properly, it can increase the risk of injury.
The remedy: Newmar will notify owners, and instruct them to contact Kidde for a replacement fire extinguisher, free of charge. The recall began on February 7, 2018. ON MAY 3, 2021 WHILE DRIVING I-71 S IN OHIO DURING A HEAVY RAIN STORM, I EXPERIENCED A CATASTROPHIC FAILURE OF THE WINDSHIELD WIPER SYSTEM. I WAS TRAVELLING APPROX. 55 MPH. EITHER THE WIPER ARM (WHERE IT'S ATTACHED TO THE MOTOR) FAILED AND CAUSED THE BRACKET HOLDING THE MOTOR TO FAIL, OR THE BRACKET FAILED AND CAUSED THE WIPER ARMS TO FAIL. BOTH WIPERS, DRIVER'S AND PASSENGER SIDE FELL DOWN AWAY FROM THE WINDSHIELD. I WAS NOT ABLE TO SEE OUT OF THE WINDSHIELD AND HAD TO PULL OFF THE HIGHWAY.

Newmar has decided to add straps to coaches equipped with a front overhead bunk to prevent the possibility of the bunk lowering if the latches were not securely or properly latched and/or unintentional latch release.

Check for proper torque of all mounting bolts on all electric slideout motors. If any bolt is under- torqued, remove the bolt, and add blue LOCTITE® thread sealant to the bolt threads. If there is no washer on the nut side of the bolt, add a flat washer. Reinstall and torque all 5/16" bolts to 19 ft. lbs. and all 3/8" bolts to 33 ft. lbs.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM; EQUIPMENT ADAPTIVE/MOBILITY

Newmar has made a change to the water pump circuit fuse on certain coaches to improve customer experience. In most cases, the 10 amp fuse installed by the factory is sufficient. However, some coaches equipped with a ShurFlo water pump (Newmar part # 127488) blow the 10 amp water pump fuse.

If a customer complains about their satellite, this product improvement bulletin may be helpful. This will only apply to coaches equipped with an HDMI/ CAT6 splitter AND the customer has installed a Geni-type satellite receiver. In this scenario, the customer may have issues trying to select satellite stations that toggle between high definition (HD) and standard definition.

In response to notification from Ford, Newmar Corporation has decided that a defect relating to motor vehicle safety exists in specific motorhomes built on Ford chassis. On certain motorhomes, the anti-lock brake system hydraulic electronic control unit (HECU) may have missing valve block ball plugs. Issue: This could cause fluid leaks or air ingress during braking, potentially increasing brake pedal travel and/or stopping distances. This could increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property.
