The defect
Tiffin Motorhomes, Inc. (Tiffin) is recalling certain model year 2013-2014 Allegro 33AA motorhomes equipped with an electric fireplace. In the affected vehicles, the fireplace may ignite a piece of exposed wood inside the electric fireplace.
The risk
If the exposed piece of wood ignites, the rest of the motorhome could also catch fire.
The remedy
Tiffin will notify owners, and dealers will install a heat shield to keep heat from the exposed wood, free of charge. The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule. Owners may contact Tiffin at 1-256-356-8661.
Notes
Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.
A safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Whether a specific vehicle is covered depends on its VIN — a recall listed for a model year does not necessarily apply to every vehicle of that year.
