What this recall covers

NHTSA's campaign record, quoted as published

The defect

Halcore Group, Inc. (Halcore) is recalling certain model year 2013-2016 Horton ambulances, models 453, 457, 503, 553, 603, and 623, manufactured November 29, 2013, to March 1, 2016. The affected vehicles may have an improperly sealed Cool-Tech air-conditioning condenser controller wire harness that can allow water to enter the controller housing.

The risk

If water gets into the controller housing, the controller may short circuit, increasing the risk of an electrical fire.

The remedy

Halcore will notify owners, and dealers will replace the Cool-Tech condenser fan controller assembly, free of charge. Halcore issued an interim notification to owners on September 9, 2016. The recall began on October 26, 2016. Owners may contact Horton customer service at 1-614-317-9856, or by email at [email protected]

Notes

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.

A safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Whether a specific vehicle is covered depends on its VIN — a recall listed for a model year does not necessarily apply to every vehicle of that year.
