What this recall covers

NHTSA's campaign record, quoted as published

The defect

Van Hool N.V. (Van Hool) is recalling certain model year 2010-2014 C2045 and T2145; 2010 C3045; 2016 CX35; 2014-2016 CX45 and TX45; 2009-2016 TD925; 2015-2016 TDX25 and TX40 and 2010-2013 T2140 motorcoaches. In the affected vehicles, the front steering knuckle carriers may crack.

The risk

Cracking of a steering knuckle carrier may result in its total failure, allowing a wheel to separate from the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.

The remedy

Van Hool will notify owners, and dealers will replace the steering knuckle carriers that were produced from August 2009 through March 2011. Carriers that were produced from April 2011 to December 2014 will be inspected by ultrasonic measurement and replaced as necessary. These repairs will be performed free of charge. The recall began on January 19, 2017. Owners may contact ABC Bus, Inc. at 1-877-427-7278. Van Hool's number for this recall is P855. Note: This recall expands recalls 14V-569 and 15V-331.

Notes

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.

A safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Whether a specific vehicle is covered depends on its VIN — a recall listed for a model year does not necessarily apply to every vehicle of that year.
