The defect

Altec Industries Inc. (Altec) is recalling certain 1992-2006 Digger Derrick trucks that have a specific boom pivot pin which may fail and cause the boom to move unexpectedly.

The risk

Unexpected boom movement can increase the risk of injury or death.

The remedy

Altec will notify owners and instruct them to inspect the vehicle for defective pivot pins and replace any that are found, free of charge. The recall began on May 22, 2018. Owners may contact Altec customer service at 1-877-462-5832.

Notes

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.

A safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Whether a specific vehicle is covered depends on its VIN — a recall listed for a model year does not necessarily apply to every vehicle of that year.
