The defect
ITI Trailers And Truck Bodies, Inc. (ITI) is recalling certain 2018-2019 HINO 268 and 338-based vehicles equipped with ASA Electronics Voyager back-up camera displays. The displays may unexpectedly revert back to the factory default settings which may cause the camera image to be reversed.
The risk
The driver may inadvertently turn the wrong direction to avoid an object behind the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.
The remedy
ITI will work with ASA to notify the affected owners and will provide a harness relay capacitor module to correct the issue, free of charge. The recall began May 9, 2019. Owners may contact ASA Electronics customer service at 1-800-384-4400 or ITI Trailers And Truck Bodies at 1-814-634-0080.
Notes
Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.
A safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Whether a specific vehicle is covered depends on its VIN — a recall listed for a model year does not necessarily apply to every vehicle of that year.
