What this recall covers

NHTSA's campaign record, quoted as published

The defect

Jayco, Inc. (Jayco) is recalling certain 2019-2020 White Hawk Travel Trailers. The breakaway switch may have been incorrectly wired, which can cause the trailer brakes to not function in the event of a trailer separation from the tow vehicle.

The risk

If the trailer separates from the tow vehicle, the breakaway switch may not activate the trailer brakes, increasing the risk of a crash.

The remedy

Jayco will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the breakaway switch for proper wiring , rewiring it as necessary, free of charge. The recall began July 12, 2019. Owners may contact Jayco customer service at 1-800-517-9137. Jayco's number for this recall is 9901438.

Notes

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.

A safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Whether a specific vehicle is covered depends on its VIN — a recall listed for a model year does not necessarily apply to every vehicle of that year.
