What this recall covers

NHTSA's campaign record, quoted as published

The defect

Daimler Trucks North America, LLC (DTNA) is recalling certain 2026-2027 Thomas Built SAF-T-LINER HDX2 transit buses. The entrance door may fail to open or close when the switch is activated.

The risk

A door that fails to open or close increases the risk of injury to occupants in a crash.

The remedy

Dealers will reconfigure the entrance door system wiring, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed August 25, 2026. Owners may contact DTNA customer service at 1-800-574-0712. DTNA's number for this recall is F1035.

A safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Whether a specific vehicle is covered depends on its VIN — a recall listed for a model year does not necessarily apply to every vehicle of that year.
